Chapter 274: Parental Pleadings
As Tom had indicated, the Brooks family was indeed beyond saving. Victoria probably couldnโt spare a moment to deal with them after looking into their situation. Ellis felt much less anxious than before; life was a bit more pleasurable. Unbeknownst to her, Victoria harbored a deep hatred for Ellis, so intense that she contemplated having her eliminated.
In desperate times, when assets needed to be liquidated quickly, many swooped in to take advantage, pressing prices even lower. As the situation worsened daily and the financial chain crumbled, the familyโs slow decline suddenly accelerated. Victoriaโs dad, Peter, was frantic, pinning his hopes on his daughter.
At that time, her parents urged her to ask Easton for help, which put Victoria in a difficult position. โDad, Mom, Eastonโฆ heโฆโ Victoria started, but Peter cut in, โCanโt you ask Easton for help?โ
Since Easton had found out that she had taken revenge on Ellis and subsequently pulled all support from her company, leading it nearly to bankruptcy, it was clear Easton was unlikely to assist her family. Victoria had also heard rumors that her familyโs troubles were partly due to Eastonโs influence behind the scenes.
โDad, I canโt see Easton,โ she admitted, not daring to reveal what Easton had done behind the scenes, especially since it was all triggered by her own actions. โHeโs made up his mind not to marry me.โ
Victoria herself had initiated the breakup of her engagement with Easton, so she couldnโt blame her daughter. But since both Easton and Ellis were now divorced, and Easton had previously treated Victoria better than he had Ellis, it frustrated Peter that Victoria hadnโt seized the opportunity to reclaim what was rightfully hers.
โEaston grew up with you; you were childhood sweethearts. How are you any less than Ellis, that woman who wants for nothing! How many times have I told you about our familyโฆโ
Victoria listened to her fatherโs ramblings, unable to argue back. Ellis was, after all, Eastonโs ex-wife, and she had initiated their divorce. Easton had often told her how clueless Ellis was, his words laced with annoyance.
And yet, Easton had chosen to disregard their past relationship for Ellis, to the extent of harming her and her family this severely! If murdering Ellis werenโt illegal, Victoria would be the first in line to do it. Everything she and her family were suffering was because of Ellis. Past lessons reminded her, however, that Ellis was untouchable. If she acted against Ellis, Morty would retaliate on Ellisโs behalf, and Easton wouldnโt let her off either.
For the first time in her life, Victoria, who had always had things go her way, felt utterly powerless. Having studied a great deal of theory, Easton was pondering which approach to use now. However, Ellis had already blocked all his means of contact; he couldnโt reach her even if he wanted to.
Others might start pursuing a girl by obtaining her contact information, having a channel to express their feelings even without mutual interaction. If he didnโt go to Ellis, she wouldnโt even know what he was up to.
Frustrated by the situation, Easton had subconsciously chosen to stay with his mother recently, ensuring that Sophia saw her son every day. One morning, as he was about to have breakfast in the dining room, Sophia saw her son waiting and frowned disapprovingly before remarking, โYou have the energy to live with me, why not try living with Ellis?โ

Living with her, that could possibly come of it!
Eastonโs whole heart was set on remarrying Ellis, which was where his focus should be. Thanks to Ellisโs disdain, Easton had developed a keen ability to detect whether people were disgusted with him.
Ignoring Sophiaโs disapproval, he responded, โIโd like to live with Ellis, but sheโs not willing.โ Hearing this, Sophia put down her fork and looked directly at her son. Her silence and steady gaze puzzled Easton.
โYou say you want to remarry Ellis, but not even Ellis can see your sincerity, let alone me, even though Iโm supposed to be biased in your favor,โ Sophia stated seriously.
Eastonโs brows furrowed slightly. โI havenโt shown my sincerity yet.โ
โStart by not calling Ellis by her full name every time. Can you do that?โ Sophia had long advised her son to drop the formal address, but he wouldnโt listen.
โIโm used to it,โ Easton stood his ground, leaving Sophia speechless.
โA title doesnโt signifyโฆโ Seeing his motherโs exasperated look, Easton tried to convince her not to mind the formalities, but thinking about how Ellis had stopped using formal titles for him made him swallow the rest of his words, his lips pursing slightly.
โWhy stop talking?โ Sophia wanted to hear her sonโs reasoning, curious to see how he might frustrate her further.
โThereโs nothing more to say,โ Easton replied, his lips forming a thin line.
โGirls pay attention to the details; constantly using someoneโs full name doesnโt sit well with people,โ Sophia hoped Easton would stop being so stubborn and listen to others for once, instead of always doing as he pleased.
