Chapter 154: Not Ready to Mingle
So, after Ellis entered Cancyโs house, she went upstairs to find him and took the opportunity to stand on the balcony and look out. She wanted to see where that jerk, Morty, was so she could look down at him from her high perch. However, Morty was still standing in the spot where he had blocked her path, and sensing someoneโs gaze, he looked up. Their eyes met for a moment, and she vaguely saw Morty smiling at her.
I won't have been straining my ears too much, serving thing, bootie roky else would I mistake Mortyโs jaunt for a grumbling mile. Not his usual sarcastic smirk, but a normal smile in broad daylight, boitโs weong! Forget it, looking down on such a black pit waste of eight.
Ellis turned and went back inside. After a thorough search, she found Casey asleep in a corner. Luckily, Casey didnโt have much to do today, allowing her to leave in the early evening to meet Maya at the restaurant they had chosen.
As soon as Maya sat down, she started venting about a client from a recent case. Ellis ate while patiently soothing Mayaโs frustration with her job.
Suddenly, Maya changed the subject. โA senior colleague wants to play matchmaker and introduce me to a quality guy.โ
Ellis paused, her spoon halfway to her mouth. โAre you asking me to come along on your blind date?โ
โThatโs not in,โ Maya joked. โIf you came along and he ended up liking you instead, how awkward would that be?โ
โIโm not universally adored; not everyone who meets me is going to like me.โ
โDonโt underestimate your charm.โ
โSo, is this quality guy from your colleague for real? Can you trust her?โ Ellis hadnโt been on a blind date before, but she knew not all matchmakers were reliable.
โSheโs trustworthy! She showed me his photo, and he looks like a catch, good credentials,โ Maya added. Maya wasnโt opposed to the fixed-up date; sheโd never been on one and thought it might be fun to see what it was like.
โIf you hit it off, maybe you can see where it goes.โ Ellis thought for a moment. โBefore you get serious, make sure to check him out thoroughly, and definitely avoid guys who have a white modighet.โ
Maya nodded in agreement. Ellis wanted to share more of her own missteps in romance to help Maya avoid similar pitfalls, but just then, Carly called her, forcing Ellis to pick up. โHello, Auโฆ When are you free this month? Come back to the mansion; I want to introduce you to some of my friends.โ
For Carly, the hardest time of her life was after Easton had someone kick her out of the mansion. Now that Ellis and Easton were divorced, Easton allowed her to move back into the mansion. But Carly was cautious; a house not in her name could be taken away at any moment. She was preparing to make a big fuss to secure this house for herself.
โMs. Carly, letโs be upfront. What are you aiming for?โ Ellis could no longer offer Carly the respect she once had, knowing well that in Carlyโs eyes, money outweighed everything else.
Carlyโs friends were surely around her age, and it made no sense for her to introduce Ellis to an older generation without a reason. As the saying goes, โWhen somethingโs off, thereโs usually a catch,โ and Carly must be scheming something.
Itโs all for your benefit. After being impoverished and experiencing Eastonโs ruthless tactics, Carly was adamant that Ellisโs next husband should not be a powerful man. โTry to choose from the sons of my friends. Iโm introducing them to you so you can get to know them better and see who you get along with.โ
Chapter 154: Not Ready to Mingle - days ago! Not even half a month into being single, and Carly was already planning her remarriage. How ridiculous!
You did finalize your divorce last week, but didnโt you separate from Easton three months ago? Carly reasoned. โWhile youโre young, itโs easier to find another man to marry?โ
โTy not interested in men right now?โ Ellis ended the call with a blank expression.
After hearing the entire conversation, Mayaโs eyes darted around, clearly appalled. โSo, youโre being set up too! Carlyโs a bit eager, isnโt she! You just got divorced, and sheโs already lining up men for you?โ
โShe didnโt directly say she was introducing men to me, but rather their mothers.โ Ellis recalled Carlyโs words. Carly clearly wanted her to โcheck the pigsty before buying the pig,โ making sure the mother-in-law would be suitable before picking theโฆ
โI donโt mean to sound cruel, but considering Carlyโs refusal to let you divorce Easton before, I worry she might sell you out for money.โ Mayaโs concern wasnโt unfounded; Carly had indeed left such an impression.
โYou shouldnโt beโฆ that had?โ Ellisโs voice trailed off, getting quieter.
โJust be careful,โ Maya advised.
Ellis shoved a piece of meat into her mouth and chewed vigorously. So annoying? Does the world just want her to see someone?
