โ€œWhatโ€™s the point of saying this now?โ€ Shane grabbed Igor. โ€œItโ€™s useless. Iโ€™ll go to the observation tower and ask General Quinton myself. Letโ€™s see if he heard anything.โ€

โ€œHe definitely heard,โ€ Igor said, lifting his head. His eyes were filled with uncertainty. Heโ€™d never been afraid, even facing thousands of soldiers, but now he was terrified. This was a situation he didnโ€™t know how to handle.

โ€œDylan yelled so loudlyโ€”anyone could have heard him, unless theyโ€™re deaf,โ€ he added.

โ€œIโ€™ll go find them and ask for their help. This canโ€™t reach His Majestyโ€™s ears!โ€ Shane shouted. โ€œGet the horses ready.โ€ He strode out.

Wyatt watched the generals. He knew theyโ€™d been by his fatherโ€™s side most of their lives, and their concern for him had driven them to seek out Felix. He sighed. โ€œMy friends, careless words can bring disaster. From now on, we must be careful with what we say. No more speaking out of turn.โ€

The others nodded quickly, but what good was it now? Could they undo the damage?

โ€œEven without the Crown Guard present, we shouldnโ€™t have said anything in front of General Quinton and General Larkin.โ€

Wallace sighed and rubbed his temples, a headache building. Their father would return to the capital by royal order, but Wyatt wouldnโ€™t succeed him in command of the troops. Instead, command passed to Wallace, the youngest, and not even Dominicโ€™s biological son.

Clearly, Salvador had his own intentions and was trying to sow division within the family. Any strife or conflict here would give Salvador an excuse to send another general to take over Victory Pass.

As it stood, who could stabilize Victory Pass? Aside from the Hell Monarch, who else could handle it? Salvador wouldnโ€™t send the Hell Monarch; anyone else would be either too inexperienced or too eager to gain military merit and rise to power.

Thankfully, the Sullivan brothers were united. No matter who held command, they followed their father when he was present, and Wyatt when he wasnโ€™t.

When Shane arrived at the observation tower, Felix invited him to his and Homerโ€™s room. The small room contained two beds, a small dining table, and two stools.

The observation tower had once been a temple, but after the temple relocated to the mountains, the building was repurposed to accommodate officials and visitors from the capital and other regions.

Felix gestured for Shane to sit, while Homer settled on a bed. After Felix relayed Kevinโ€™s words, Shaneโ€™s face drained of color, turning ashen.

With Dominicโ€™s return to the capital, the stakes were high. It had been a gamble on divine favor, but those words would undoubtedly offend the king beyond redemption.

โ€œIs there any way out of this?โ€ Shane asked, his voice trembling after a long silence.

โ€œBefore you arrived,โ€ Felix began, โ€œI contacted some people we know in Victory Pass. Theyโ€™re helping to send word to Prince Rafael. Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ve heard of the Septimus Tetra reconnaissance team. All of them were saved by His Highness. Weโ€™re hoping His Highness can convince the Marquis of Elderglen to stop Sentry Ziegler before he returns to the capital and talk him down.โ€

Shane was surprised. โ€œYou have people in Victory Pass?โ€

โ€œTheyโ€™re not our people,โ€ Felix clarified. โ€œBefore we came to Victory Pass, Lady Carissa gave us their contact information so we could send messages back to the capital quickly if necessary.โ€

Sentry Ziegler, from the Marquis of Elderglenโ€™s family?

โ€œHeโ€™s the Marquis of Elderglenโ€™s nephew.โ€

Shane wasnโ€™t reassured. Felix had just said that even with that connection, heโ€™d been refused.

It wasnโ€™t hard to understand why. Everyone wanted to rise in the ranks, especially those working directly for the king. Who wouldnโ€™t want to climb higher? Such opportunities were rare, and required little effortโ€”a simple report, and the reward would be theirs.

โ€œPlease relay to him that if a conversation can be had, then have it. But if not, no other measures should be taken. The Sullivan family has always prided itself on being upright. If anyoneโ€™s to blame, itโ€™s ourselves for speaking without thinking and giving others leverage,โ€ Shane said.

Felix and Homer already held the Sullivan family in high regard, but hearing Shaneโ€™s words deepened their admiration. If it had been someone else, someone ruthless, they might have arranged for an assassination on the way back to the capital to silence Kevin.

However, the Sullivan family truly did everything with integrity.
