Chapter 632

As Abigail carried the lifeless baby outside, Dorothy burst into loud sobs. Ignoring the older woman, Abigail went straight to Samuel. He had been bound so long that his blood circulation had been cut off, leaving his face a deep purple.

Abigail lifted the baby high for him to see. โ€œThis is your son. You killed him.โ€ Tears glistened on her cheeks. Her tone was initially calm, but her next words were filled with rage.

โ€œWhat will it take for you to finally stop? What will it take for you to behave? Look! Youโ€™ve killed your own son. Youโ€™ve brought turmoil to our family. What do you think youโ€™re doing? Just because you think Leona fancies you, you think you can trample on everyone? You ungrateful wretch! Sheโ€™s fighting for her life! Do you even understand what youโ€™ve done wrong?โ€

Samuel avoided looking at his mother and especially the lifeless baby. Having heard everything that had happened, he couldnโ€™t articulate his feelings but refused to look at the infant. He hadn't killed his son; it wasn't his fault.

โ€œTake him away!โ€ Samuel mumbled, blood bubbling from his lips. โ€œI donโ€™t want to see him. I wonโ€™t.โ€

But he did see the baby, if only for a fleeting moment. The lifeless infant lay swaddled in cloth. The baby, so handsome and precious, should have been crying and wailing, but there was only silence. This was his sonโ€ฆ and he was dead.

Samuel whimpered, which escalated into a heart-wrenching cry. โ€œTake him away! I donโ€™t want to see him! Mom, I know I was wrong! Untie me! I want to see her! I know now that I was wrong!โ€

Abigailโ€™s tears continued to flow. โ€œItโ€™s too late, Samuel. Some things canโ€™t be undone. Your child wonโ€™t come back to life. Nothing can return to how it was.โ€

Once Abigailโ€™s anger subsided, only sorrow remained in her voice. โ€œFrom a young age, youโ€™ve been my pride and joy. You began your education at six and earned countless accolades from your teachers. You became one of the top scholars at a young age, and the king handpicked you as a talented candidate. You married a duchess, became heir to the Earl of Graceholdโ€™s family, and had a title awaiting you. Your life and career should have been smooth sailing, but you let mere fleeting pleasure ruin everything. Whatโ€™s worse is that Ruby wasnโ€™t just a normal courtesan; she was a concubineโ€™s daughter from Grand Princess Eleanorโ€™s household, sent as a calculated attack on our family. Youโ€™re an intelligent man, so how could you have fallen into that trap and gambled away your future? Leona adored you, and you discarded her like she was nothing. Now, youโ€™ve even killed your son. The bond you had with Leona is gone. Youโ€™ve lost both your status as heir and your official positionโ€”youโ€™ve lost everything. Youโ€™ve ruined your life.โ€

Samuel cried in anguish, but no one knew what he mourned: his lost love for Ruby, his slipping titles and future, his lifeless child, or perhaps the memory of his wifeโ€™s warmth.

Chapter 632

His cries were hysterical, echoing with countless grievances and unfulfilled desires. No one stopped him, nor did anyone comfort him. Only Dorothy stood in the doorway, her own tears trailing down her face as she watched her grandson.

Meanwhile, Leona had survived the ordeal. Sebastian announced that the severe bleeding had ceased, but she would need time to recover.

When Leona finally woke, she grasped Carissaโ€™s hand tightly and whispered, โ€œCari, take me away.โ€

โ€œYou need to rest and recuperate, silly child. Where could you possibly go?โ€ Heather said, wiping her tears.

But Carissa had already stepped outside to consult Sebastian. โ€œCan we carry her out now?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s best to wait until tomorrow. You should make preparations. You can either carry or lift her, but she needs medication today. After three doses, she can leave. Find a quiet place for her to recover. She wonโ€™t survive here at Gracehold Estate,โ€ Sebastian replied.

Heather rushed out to stop them. โ€œCarissa! You canโ€™t leave! Donโ€™t encourage her foolishness. This is her husbandโ€™s home! Where can she go?โ€

Carissa ignored her and turned to Leah and Alana. โ€œYou two get ready and pack her things. Sort out her dowry as well. Let Mrs. Langley know, and sheโ€™ll send someone to deliver it. A woman canโ€™t unilaterally divorce her husband, so letโ€™s call it an amicable divorce to keep it dignified for both parties.โ€
