Chapter 297
On the day of Helen's gathering, ladies from both inside and outside the capital, as well as the families of high-ranking officials, arrived at Hell Monarch Estate. Despite the invitation framing the event as a snowfall viewing, it hadn't snowed. Furthermore, the garden's orchids had been transplanted to a secluded area, and after the relocation, they hadn't bloomed at all that year. Even with Rafael's return and a specialist's meticulous care, the garden held only a few blooming flowers.
However, flowers or snow were secondary. Everyone understood Helen organized this tea party to show off. As expected, she wore a deep red brocade gown embroidered with large lilies. A pristine white fox fur draped elegantly over her shoulders, and her hair, touched with gray, was styled in an elaborate updo, adorned with a gold crown set with rubies, giving her an air of undeniable nobility.
Eleanor, too, had dressed up, but her attire paled in comparison to Helen's splendor. After all, Helen had been pampered in the palace for many years; her skin was fair and rosy, without wrinkles. In contrast, Eleanor's skin, already dry from winter, accentuated the fine lines around her eyes, and the powder she wore made her look older.
The two noble concubines didn't attend, claiming illness due to the cold. In reality, they simply didn't wish to witness Helen's display. The other ladies and officials' families, however, had to come. Even if they disrespected Helen, they had to show respect for the Hell Monarch. Many flatterers lavished praise upon her.
Jessica had brought Serena, who was beautifully dressed in the latest winter fashions and jewelry gifted by Jessica. With her naturally fair skin, she appeared more charming than the flowers. Serena had prepared thoroughly, knowing Helen liked praise for her youthful appearance.
Greeting Helen, Serena displayed momentary astonishment before quickly kneeling and apologizing, "Lady Helen, please forgive me. I was momentarily struck dumb by your fair skin, which surpasses that of a young maiden. My reaction was truly inappropriate."
Helen beamed. "Which family are you from? Such sweet words! How could a woman in her forties compare with a young maiden?"
"My name is Serena Warren. I'm Barrett's younger sister. I wouldn't dare lie. Lady Helen, your beauty and grace are truly divine. As someone who hasn't seen much of the world, I initially thought you were a goddess."
Serena's flattery hit its mark, thrilling Helen. She felt she had everything material and favorable in this life, but being admired like a goddess would be wonderful.

Helen beamed, her smile wide. Turning to Gillian, she said, "She's such a clever girl. Reward her. Give her that coral bracelet."
Gillian hesitated before bringing the bracelet to Serena. Serena's heart soared, but she maintained a respectful demeanor.
"Thank you, Lady Helen. To receive such a generous gift is a great honor. I will be forever grateful and will pray daily for your peace and health."
"What a good child. Rise," Helen said, giving Serena an approving look. The girl's flattery had put Helen completely at ease. "Come visit me often. I would enjoy your company."
Serena's eyes sparkled; she almost wanted to leap for joy. However, in the presence of so many witnesses, she simply smiled and replied, "Thank you, Lady Helen. I will certainly come by regularly."
The other ladies looked down on Serena. Serena's respectful facade hid insincere words. How could she liken Helen to a goddess? Goddesses were compassionate, unlike Helen.
At that moment, someone asked, "Why isn't Lady Sinclair here today?"
