Chapter 168
Leaning back against his chair, Austin lightly tapped his fingers on the table. He lifted his eyes and looked at Suzanne. In a warm voice, he said, “It’s up to you to interfere.”
Suzanne looked back at Aaron and agreed, “Alright. I’ll take a look at the patient.”
Aaron’s face lit up. Fixing his eyes on Suzanne, he asked, “Are you able to go over tonight?” This felt urgent to him as he had just received news of the elderly man having another episode.
Since Suzanne had already agreed, she didn’t hesitate. “Of course.”
Aaron immediately got to his feet. Looking emotional, he said, “Thank you very much, Ms. Yates.”
Initially, he thought that Suzanne would only be able to head over the next day. After all, it was already getting late.
A conflicted look came across Yasmine’s face. At that moment, she didn’t quite know what to say. Typically, being able to get involved with Austin meant that Suzanne had sufficient backing; she could afford to act proud. However, she was so easygoing and professional regardless of whether Austin was around.
Suzanne got to her feet and prompted, “Let’s go.”
Emma had been listening in on the conversation between the adults with wide eyes. Now that Suzanne said she was leaving, Emma got down from her chair hurriedly. She trotted toward Suzanne and took her by the hand. Swinging her arm, she asked, “Aunt Suzanne, are you going to treat another patient?”
Suzanne lowered her head to look at Emma. She crouched down and brushed her finger against Emma’s nose. “I am.”
Emma giggled. She leaned forward and gave Suzanne a peck on her cheek. “All the best, Aunt Suzanne. Here’s a kiss for good luck.”
A gush of warmth filled Suzanne’s heart.
Then, Emma ran over to Yasmine and whispered, “Mommy, crouch down a little.”
Yasmine smiled and crouched down obediently. Following that, Emma gave her a kiss on her cheek too.
Beaming, Emma waved at Suzanne and the rest of them in the room. “I’m gonna go wash up and go to bed. Goodbye.”
At this moment, a maid walked over to take Emma by the hand.
Suzanne raised her eyebrows in surprise. She thought that Emma would make a fuss about going out with the rest of them. To her surprise, she was such an obedient girl. Emma was a caring little girl, indeed.
Yasmine went up to Emma and ruffled her hair. Tenderly, she said, “Be good. I’ll be home soon.”
That was perhaps what mothers were like. They would always worry about leaving their little ones at home when they went out.
Emma put her hands on her hips. Proudly, she said, “I’ve got it, Mommy. I’m not a child.”
She sighed at how she was always treated like a child.
Everyone couldn’t help but laugh when they watched how Emma acted like an adult.
After settling the arrangements for Emma, the four of them left the villa in one car.
Sun wanted to get a better understanding of the elderly man’s medical condition.
While Aaron was driving, he looked at Yasmine, who was seated in the front passenger seat. In a soft voice, he requested, “Yasmine, hand me a bottle of water.” Yasmine took out a bottle of mineral water from her bag, twisted the cap open, and handed the bottle to Aaron. He took a sip, then said to Suzanne and Austin in the back seat, “He’s a veteran. He fought in a war when he was young. We can’t be sure this condition is a result of that.”
It became clear to Suzanne. Pains all over the body could very well be caused from that time in the man’s past.
Yasmine placed the bottle of water back into her bag. Then, she turned to look at Suzanne and Austin. She explained, “We owe that man a favor, which is why we can’t just…”
Suzanne hadn’t expected that. Out of curiosity, she asked, “…”
She never thought that a veteran would have done them a favor.
Even Austin looked at Yasmine with a surprised expression on his face. He didn’t know about this either.
Yasmine did not hide the reason. With a great smile on her face, she explained, “When Aaron and I first got married, we used to enjoy hiking as a form of stress relief during our free time.”
