Chapter 87
โLook, Davidโs team apologized to me and said I could rejoin,โ Josie said while holding up her phone for Sean to see.
Her eyes curved with a bright smile. She was clearly in a great mood.
โSo, are you thinking about going back?โ Sean asked, not quite sure what she meant.
Josie shook her head with a laugh. โOf course not. Iโm part of your team now. Going back would make me a traitor.โ
Her words landed softly but powerfully on Seanโs heart. He couldnโt help but press a hand to his chest.
It was a strange, wonderful feeling, and he found himself smiling even wider.
โYou better keep your word. Donโt forget weโre a team now, and we still have a competition coming up,โ he said.
โOf course I remember,โ Josie said, glancing back down at her phone. Then, as if something had suddenly occurred to her, she quickly looked up at Sean.
โWait, Sean, do you actually think Iโm happy just because they want me back on their team?โ she asked, raising an eyebrow.
Sean quickly looked away and felt a bit sheepish. โNo, I donโt.โ
โI think you do,โ Josie let out a little huff, standing up and walking over to him. โSeriously, what do you take me for? Iโm not the type to flip-flop like that.
โBack when I was at my lowest, you guys took me in. Thereโs no way Iโd use your kindness just to run back to them. Thatโs just not me.โ
Seanโs smile faded, his expression turning serious. โYouโre right. I was wrong. I owe you an apology.โ
It caught her completely off guard; he made it sound so easy, as if apologizing was no big deal at all.
But then she thought about Aiden and the others. Sheโd waited what felt like a lifetime for them to apologize to her.
โAre you okay?โ Sean asked, looking genuinely puzzled.
He didnโt have much experience with girls, and he had no idea why Josieโs eyes were suddenly turning red just because heโd apologized.
โThatโs not what I meant. Please, donโt cry,โ he blurted out.
He was terrible at comforting people. This kind of thing was just way too hard for him.
Josie shook her head. โIโm not crying. Iโm just really happy.
โI am happy to be on your team and to have met you. Youโre someone I can count on, Sean. You are a genuinely good guy!โ
Sean looked confused. โSo just because I apologized that makes me some kind of stand-up guy?โ
โOf course!โ Josie nodded earnestly. โItโs the little things that show what kind of person you are.
โMaybe you donโt see it, but to me, youโre definitely a stand up guy!"
In her previous life, she hadnโt paid enough attention to these little things. That was why she kept giving in to Aiden and the others again and again.
It got to the point where even the smallest bit of pushback from her was seen as being difficult. They treated her as if sheโd changed and stopped caring about the team anymore.
It wasnโt until she was completely drained, with nothing left of herself, that she finally realized the truth.
Once she gave in, others just kept pushing her. She let it go once because it seemed small, but next time, it could be something much bigger.
After all, even a single horseshoe nail could bring down an entire kingdom.
Even something small like this could ruin a person.
Sean said in a good mood. โAlright, whatever you say.โ
โOh, by the way, Sean, let me tell you something fun,โ Josie said, giving him a playful wink as she scrolled to the forum post about the bet between an arrogant person and Aiden.
Seanโs gaze grew a bit more serious. โSo thatโs what had you grinning just now?โ
โOf course! Other than this, I couldnโt care less about their apology or their offer to take me back,โ Josie said, tilting her chin up like a proud little peacock.
Sean couldnโt help but chuckle. โWell, youโve got some backbone, Iโll give you that.โ
โYou bet I do!โ Josie said, pulling her phone back and starting to type out a reply.
She added, โYou know, the person who bet that Iโd go back to Davidโs team is actually Aidenโs alt account.
โI have no idea where he gets his confidence from, thinking Iโd ever go back to them!โ
โJust wait, Iโm going to wipe that smug look off his face. Heโs always acting so high and mighty. Itโs really annoying!โ
Theyโd been spending so much time together lately and had gotten more comfortable with each other.
Josie had dropped her initial wariness. Now, sheโd sometimes show the soft, adorable side of herself.
