Chapter 87

โ€œLook, Davidโ€™s team apologized to me and said I could rejoin,โ€ Josie said while holding up her phone for Sean to see.

Her eyes curved with a bright smile. She was clearly in a great mood.

โ€œSo, are you thinking about going back?โ€ Sean asked, not quite sure what she meant.

Josie shook her head with a laugh. โ€œOf course not. Iโ€™m part of your team now. Going back would make me a traitor.โ€

Her words landed softly but powerfully on Seanโ€™s heart. He couldnโ€™t help but press a hand to his chest.

It was a strange, wonderful feeling, and he found himself smiling even wider.

โ€œYou better keep your word. Donโ€™t forget weโ€™re a team now, and we still have a competition coming up,โ€ he said.

โ€œOf course I remember,โ€ Josie said, glancing back down at her phone. Then, as if something had suddenly occurred to her, she quickly looked up at Sean.

โ€œWait, Sean, do you actually think Iโ€™m happy just because they want me back on their team?โ€ she asked, raising an eyebrow.

Sean quickly looked away and felt a bit sheepish. โ€œNo, I donโ€™t.โ€

โ€œI think you do,โ€ Josie let out a little huff, standing up and walking over to him. โ€œSeriously, what do you take me for? Iโ€™m not the type to flip-flop like that.

โ€œBack when I was at my lowest, you guys took me in. Thereโ€™s no way Iโ€™d use your kindness just to run back to them. Thatโ€™s just not me.โ€

Seanโ€™s smile faded, his expression turning serious. โ€œYouโ€™re right. I was wrong. I owe you an apology.โ€

It caught her completely off guard; he made it sound so easy, as if apologizing was no big deal at all.

But then she thought about Aiden and the others. Sheโ€™d waited what felt like a lifetime for them to apologize to her.

โ€œAre you okay?โ€ Sean asked, looking genuinely puzzled.

He didnโ€™t have much experience with girls, and he had no idea why Josieโ€™s eyes were suddenly turning red just because heโ€™d apologized.

โ€œThatโ€™s not what I meant. Please, donโ€™t cry,โ€ he blurted out.

He was terrible at comforting people. This kind of thing was just way too hard for him.

Josie shook her head. โ€œIโ€™m not crying. Iโ€™m just really happy.

โ€œI am happy to be on your team and to have met you. Youโ€™re someone I can count on, Sean. You are a genuinely good guy!โ€

Sean looked confused. โ€œSo just because I apologized that makes me some kind of stand-up guy?โ€

โ€œOf course!โ€ Josie nodded earnestly. โ€œItโ€™s the little things that show what kind of person you are.

โ€œMaybe you donโ€™t see it, but to me, youโ€™re definitely a stand up guy!"

In her previous life, she hadnโ€™t paid enough attention to these little things. That was why she kept giving in to Aiden and the others again and again.

It got to the point where even the smallest bit of pushback from her was seen as being difficult. They treated her as if sheโ€™d changed and stopped caring about the team anymore.

It wasnโ€™t until she was completely drained, with nothing left of herself, that she finally realized the truth.

Once she gave in, others just kept pushing her. She let it go once because it seemed small, but next time, it could be something much bigger.

After all, even a single horseshoe nail could bring down an entire kingdom.

Even something small like this could ruin a person.

Sean said in a good mood. โ€œAlright, whatever you say.โ€

โ€œOh, by the way, Sean, let me tell you something fun,โ€ Josie said, giving him a playful wink as she scrolled to the forum post about the bet between an arrogant person and Aiden.

Seanโ€™s gaze grew a bit more serious. โ€œSo thatโ€™s what had you grinning just now?โ€

โ€œOf course! Other than this, I couldnโ€™t care less about their apology or their offer to take me back,โ€ Josie said, tilting her chin up like a proud little peacock.

Sean couldnโ€™t help but chuckle. โ€œWell, youโ€™ve got some backbone, Iโ€™ll give you that.โ€

โ€œYou bet I do!โ€ Josie said, pulling her phone back and starting to type out a reply.

She added, โ€œYou know, the person who bet that Iโ€™d go back to Davidโ€™s team is actually Aidenโ€™s alt account.

โ€œI have no idea where he gets his confidence from, thinking Iโ€™d ever go back to them!โ€

โ€œJust wait, Iโ€™m going to wipe that smug look off his face. Heโ€™s always acting so high and mighty. Itโ€™s really annoying!โ€

Theyโ€™d been spending so much time together lately and had gotten more comfortable with each other.

Josie had dropped her initial wariness. Now, sheโ€™d sometimes show the soft, adorable side of herself.
