Chapter 340
Josieโs face turned even redder. โItโs not what you think!โ
โWhat do I think?โ Zoeyโs teasing look deepened.
Afraid Sean might hear their conversation, Josie pinched Zoeyโs waist. โZoey! And here I was worried about you, rushing over, yet you treat me like this!โ
โWhat did I do?โ Zoey winked at her, โI want you to seize the opportunity! Sean is a rare, good young man.โ
โStop itโฆโ Josie was too embarrassed to look back at Sean. Her feelings made her uneasy; she didnโt want anyone to notice.
The two girls hovered by the dessert table, sampling various petits fours and chatting and laughing quietly.
Not far away, Aidenโs grip on his wine glass tightened slightly. A layer of frost seemed to cover his usually gentle eyes. โHow can Josie possibly appear at such a party?โ
โWho is that woman? She appeared out of nowhere. How could the Reedshaws casually bring some woman to such an important business party? Itโs simply outrageous!โ Thomas tugged at his tie and downed a glass of champagne.
โDo you dislike her because you think she is not attractive enough?โ Aiden looked at Thomas with an amused expression.
Thomas had always been lecherous; among the socialites and young ladies in his circle, there was not one he didnโt try to hit on.
His current attitude only meant heโd been rebuffed by her.
Aiden recalled the way Josie confronted others with her cold little face, and found himself inexplicably amused.
Josie really gave him new surprises every day.
Thomas said, โDo not gloat over this. I just heard from that scoundrel Elliot that the young woman is Seanโs junior. You probably know her as well. Please tell me about her.โ
Aiden recalled Josieโs personnel file from when she first joined the team, and a trace of disdain flashed in his eyes. โNo connections. Orphan. Got into medical school by working hard. Got lucky joining David Lawsonโs team. Later got kicked out and became Delilah Wilcourtโs student. Judging by the current situation, the Reedshaws probably plan to officially take her as a disciple, make her the successor of Reedshaw medicine.โ
The Reedshaw familyโs attitude toward Josie somewhat surprised Aiden.
He never expected the Reedshaws to take a fancy to an orphan. But then again, given the Reedshawsโ past reputation, only an orphan would be easy to control.
Only a fool like Josie would believe she could make a career in medicine with acupuncture.
The moment she achieved a little success, the Reedshaws couldnโt wait to show her off. Had the Reedshaws been suppressed for too long, too eager to stand out? With their past, how could they possibly be worthy?
Aidenโs eyes darkened. โJosie, youโre really being disobedient. With your status, how can you be so presumptuous, appearing at occasions I frequent, entering my circle?โ
Thomas said, โSo itโs her? It seems the Reedshaws are dead set on developing the Reedshaw Acupuncture Technique again this time. How bold of them!โ Thomas was furious. โAiden, I heard you recently selected a new project related to David. If I remember correctly, David has always been at odds with the Reedshaws, right? Can youโฆโ
โThomas!โ Aiden frowned slightly. โProject investments have profits and losses. You canโt pin your hopes on me. The Reedshaws only have one traditional hospital now."
โBut once the Reedshaw Acupuncture Technique is promoted and public acceptance grows, whoโs to say traditional hospitals wonโt spring up?"
โI heard from Grandpa that during the peak of Reedshaw medicine, there were hundreds of Reedshaw traditional hospitals nationwide. Back then, no one knew about our Brown Group hospitals."
โBut you donโt need to worry too much. A hospital isnโt built overnight. In the short term, the Reedshaw hospitals wonโt threaten you.โ
Aiden gave Thomas a seemingly amused yet not quite smile, then stopped towards Zoey.
