Chapter 306

Josie saw Kyle again two days later. After leaving the research institute and preparing to take the bus back to campus, she saw Kyle at the intersection near the bus stop.

He was in a scuffle with Natalie at the entrance of an alley.

The two appeared to be arguing about something; in the end, Natalie broke away from Kyle and got into a car by the roadside.

Upon seeing Josie, Kyle did not seem embarrassed. Instead, he strode toward her.

Josie’s brow furrowed slightly. As she was about to leave without acknowledging him, he blocked her path.

He said, “Please help me. I do not want to leave Aloville. I can join your team. I have completed all my graduate courses. I am definitely qualified to be a medical assistant. Moreover, I have asked around and learned that your team is currently lacking expertise in cytology. My joining the team would precisely fill this gap.”

Josie thought, "How can he be so shameless?"

Josie was amused. “Do you consider yourself a talent? On what grounds do you think we need you? And why should I help you?”

“I have Natalie’s secret!” Kyle pursed his dry, cracked lips. “She stole Aiden’s research materials. Many of them are nearly finalized papers. As long as you go and tell Aiden, you will certainly gain his favor. I know you like him. You left the team and opposed us just to get his attention, didn’t you? Josie, as long as you’re willing to help me, I will definitely help you get together with Aiden. I know you like him, don’t you?”

Josie burst out laughing. “What makes you think I like him? If that’s the secret you wanted to tell me, then I’m sorry, I don’t have time to listen. Get out of my way!”

Kyle said somewhat anxiously as he grabbed Josie, “No. That’s not the secret I want to tell you. You clearly like Aiden. How could you not? I know it. In the past, you were always the most attentive when preparing materials for him. You obviously like him!”

“What does it matter now?” Josie shook off Kyle’s hand. “If you don’t let go, I’ll scream!”

“Don’t…” Kyle took a fearful step back, tears streaming down his stubbled face, his voice filled with pleading. He said, “Josie, I really want to help you. Can you help me, too, please? After all, we have been friends before. I’m begging you!”

He truly had nowhere left to turn. Although Natalie verbally agreed to assist him, this matter was unlikely to be resolved so easily. Even as the daughter of David and Audrey, Natalie could not make decisions on their behalf. Since the two of them had just parted on bad terms, Kyle did not dare to place all his hopes on Natalie.

However, Josie was different. She had Delilah and Jeremy behind her. As long as she was willing to plead, he would certainly be able to remain in Aloville. It didn’t matter whether he joined the research institute. As long as he was offered a job, that was enough for him.

Kyle gazed tearfully at Josie. He knew she was soft-hearted. As long as he appeared sufficiently miserable, he believed that she would certainly agree to help him.

However, it appeared that he had not fully understood the situation. Josie watched as the car approached, her gaze coldly sweeping across his face. “You have asked the wrong person. I absolutely will not help you.”

“You…” Josie’s words caught Kyle completely off guard.

Furious, he lunged at Josie, but before he could reach her, the police – who had hurried to the scene – twisted his arm.

They said, “Kyle, you are suspected of stealing important medical research data. Please cooperate with us and come to the police station for investigation.”

Josie was momentarily taken aback. She thought, “Has the research institute ultimately decided to file a lawsuit against him? That can’t be right. An incident like this would be a scandal for the research institute. If Kyle were arrested, it would expose many internal management loopholes. There’s no reason for the institute to do something that would hurt both Kyle and themselves. Did Kyle also steal other research materials?”

As Kyle was being taken away and passed by Josie, a flash of panic crossed his resentful gaze. He nervously muttered in a low voice, “Natalie is David’s daughter!”

Josie thought, "What?"

She abruptly looked up at Kyle. Kyle gave her a confirming nod, then showed a smile tinged with both bitterness and regret.
