Chapter 304
Kyle dropped to his knees almost the instant David’s gaze fell upon him. He knew that it was completely over. This time, no one could save him.
He had assumed it was merely a research method. As long as their research succeeded first, no one would suspect that they had stolen this. However, he was unaware that Jeremy’s team had already achieved success. Not only had they published a paper, but they had also successfully applied for a patent. David’s anger and reproach were once again suppressed when he met Kyle’s resentful gaze. After all, he cared about saving face. He said, “As your teacher, I have fulfilled my moral duty. Kyle let out a cold laugh. He said, “So, the entire outcome is solely my fault, and you bear no responsibility whatsoever. David, do your abilities truly live up to your reputation?”
This was the first time a student had questioned his competence in person, and it caused his expression to reveal evident displeasure. However, he did not reprimand Kyle. Instead, he turned to face the director.
He said, “I will handle all subsequent matters appropriately. Kyle is a member of the research institute. How to deal with him is up to you. From the day he was expelled from the university, our relationship has ended.”
“Expelled?” the director was stunned. “Ms. Rogers, explain this to me. What exactly is going on with Kyle?”
He thought, ‘A student who was expelled from the school actually got into my research institute. This is the biggest joke ever. Fine, so that’s how you want to play it, Hadley? Then don’t blame me for not being polite with you.’
He said, “Forget it. You don’t need to explain any further. Starting today, you are reassigned to the Logistics Department. I will arrange for someone else to take over responsibility for the personnel records.”
“Director?” Hadley was visibly distressed, yet she still wished to plead.
The director had already angrily driven all of them out of the office. He said, “Mrs. Kinberg, just look at this situation we are in. Do you think you’ve lived up to the support I’ve given you? Go back and think it over! If you really can’t handle it, then take an early retirement.”
After the director finished speaking, he slammed the door shut with a loud bang.
Audrey felt as if the world had collapsed. Her legs gave way, a wave of dizziness swept over her, and she could barely remain standing by supporting herself against the wall. She looked up and saw that, except for Kyle, everyone else had left. Even Hadley no longer paid her any attention.
Audrey suddenly felt pathetic. Hadley was understandable, since she was implicated because of her. However, she had wholeheartedly supported David, yet he still abandoned her at this time. He didn’t even offer a single word of consolation.
