And besides, everything about the Reedshaw estate was beyond anything she had ever imagined.
She had just unpacked her clothes, taken a shower, and changed into clean loungewear when someone knocked on her doorโit was Sean.
โMy aunt is waiting for you in the study,โ Sean smiled at her.
Josie opened the door and said, โWait a moment, Iโll just grab my books.โ
She carried her textbooks and followed Sean to the study.
When Delilah saw Josie entering the room, she gestured for her to close the door.
โFrom now on, you will attend two classes every afternoon and one class after dinner. Mornings are for finishing your homework and practicing acupuncture. Do you have any questions?โ Delilah asked.
โNo,โ Josie replied. The cost of tutoring for college students was extremely high. The Reedshaw family not only provided her with free accommodation and meals but also offered personalized instruction.
With such favorable treatment, Josie could not possibly have any complaintsโshe had even thought about asking about the tuition fees a few times.
However, Delilah did not give her the opportunity to speak. โWe will not have class tonight; I have another matter to discuss with you,โ Delilah said.
She tossed a book on traditional medicine nursing to Josie.
โTake some time to finish reading over the next two days. Starting tomorrow, you will accompany me on patient consultations. The patient is Mr. Longley. All consultation fees will be retained by me; your portion will count as a tuition fee for the lessons I give. Do you agree?โ Delilah asked.
Josie had no reason to disagree. โYes.โ
โMoreover, any extra hours of tutoring I give you from now on must be paid back through your assistantโs salary. Are you okay with that?โ Delilahโs face was stern.
Josie matched her seriousness. โBut that works in my favor, doesnโt it? Being your assistant is also part of my training under you.โ
โTeaching isnโt about profit or loss. I set the rules. If I think youโre worth it, I teach willingly. If I ever find you arenโt, I wonโt be your teacher anymore,โ Delilah said.
Compared to their first meeting, this serious, almost authoritative side of Delilah felt like her true self.
Josie took a deep breath. โIโll give it my all. I wonโt let you down. Thank you so much!โ
โIt is too soon to thank me now. When you have achieved something and still remember me as your teacher, it will not be too late to express your gratitude then.โ Delilah waved her hand, indicating that Josie could leave.
When Josie stepped out of Delilahโs study, it suddenly hit her. โDid Delilah just say sheโs going to treat Mr. Longley? Does this mean that, after the acupuncture session that day, theyโve accepted the idea of using acupuncture as a treatment? Thatโs wonderful news!โ Josie thought.
Josieโs face lit up with delight. She held the book in her arms and returned to her room in high spirits. Once inside, she wasted no time on anything else; she sat down at once and began reading.
Meanwhile, in another study a few rooms away, Sean was stopped by the Reedshaw familyโs third child, Elliot Reedshaw.
โIs that girl capable?โ Elliot looked at Sean.
Sean nodded. โAunt Delilah had set her sights on Josie early on, but before she could approach Josie, David took her in. Later, he burned his bridges, and Josie came to us.โ
โOh?โ Elliot looked genuinely surprised. โSo, she left Davidโs team, studied a popular major until her senior year, and then abruptly switched to a less common field?โ
โItโs not surprising, since only this less popular major gives her a chance to graduate.โ Sean smiled and added, โThat girl has a wild spirit; she intends to pursue a double degree.โ
Elliot did not take it seriously. โNow that Delilah has her eye on her, she can forget about it. In my opinion, Delilah just hasnโt given up yet."
โI heard Delilah and Claire got into an argument againโmaybe she has finally decided to stop forcing Claire and is choosing to take in a disciple instead?โ
Seanโs smile dimmed. โIf thatโs truly her intention, would you still stand in the way?โ
