Chapter 235
Ever since joining David’s team, Josie had not had the chance to enjoy a slow, leisurely meal, let alone savor a proper plate of ribs. Just having a peaceful, normal meal had become a luxury.
Shaking her head, Josie avoided thinking about those days. They were too foolish, too humiliating to recall.
“I’ll stop here–anyway, I’ve already fulfilled my childhood wish.” Josie laughed out loud. “I’m happy every day. Thank you, Sean!”
‘Sean’s a genuinely good person. He’s a hundred times better than Aiden!’ Josie thought.
A bittersweet feeling welled up inside Sean, one he could not quite put into words, and he silently resolved to treat Josie even better, to help her achieve every one of her dreams.
Natalie had an especially difficult time these past few days. Her wounds had finally, with great difficulty, begun to scab over, only for her skin to be split open again by another whipping.
Tormented by pain, Natalie was unable to sleep night after night. She could only rant about Josie online to vent her anger. However, within two days, all posts about Josie had disappeared.
The state media stepped in to affirm Josie’s act of saving someone; now, no one dared criticize Josie online anymore.
Natalie was so mad that she smashed her phone and went completely off the grid for a few days. When her injuries had improved and she had a new phone, Natalie received a call from Jaden inviting her out.
It turned out that Jaden planned to take Tina home for the New Year, but Tina had a modest family background, so Jaden wanted Natalie to put in a good word for her.
Natalie stared at the phone as its screen dimmed, muttering under her breath, “Idiot.”
She called Tina, and they agreed to meet at a café in the city center.
“Natalie!” As soon as Tina saw Natalie, she hurried over and clung to Natalie.
Natalie took a step back. “Don’t use the tactics you employ against men on me. Let me ask you: is Jaden planning to take you to see his family?”
“Yeah, but I haven’t agreed yet. It feels too rushed,” Tina said, eyes glinting. “But I’ve already looked into everything you asked me to.”
Natalie glanced at her impatiently and said, “Speak!”
Originally, Natalie had sent Tina to cozy up to Jaden purely to keep him from thinking about Josie. Later, when their project was signed with the research institute, Aiden kicked her out.
Natalie was not about to accept that quietly–she had Tina keep an eye on Jaden, hoping to extract some useful information and find a way back into the project team.
Tina was unconcerned by Natalie’s attitude. Tina thought to herself, “These rich people always act like they’re better than everyone else—but in reality, they’re idiots. Their money and power? One day, it’ll all be mine."
“According to Jaden, the research institute needs to purchase another batch of new equipment for their project. However, due to space constraints, your mother and Jeremy have been engaged in a heated dispute.
“It appears that Jeremy’s team will also commence their project after the New Year, but the institute’s equipment and facilities are insufficient to support the simultaneous implementation of both projects,” Tina said, telling Natalie everything she knew.
But Natalie did not care much for the news. She knew that Jeremy was Claire’s father, and he had always been at odds with Audrey. Natalie had heard Audrey curse Jeremy plenty of times.
There was nothing Natalie could do regarding the space or equipment issues; they were simply beyond her control.
Natalie was somewhat displeased. “Is this all the information you have? Is there nothing else?”
As soon as she saw Natalie’s expression, Tina knew the news was useless. “Let me think it over,” she said.
‘God knows what this woman wants to know,’ she cursed inwardly, running out of things to say.
“Oh, right! Some time ago, Jaden took a member of your team, Vincent, to the Clem family, apparently regarding equipment matters,” Tina said.
Natalie looked surprised. “The Monroe family has no ties with the Clem family. Jaden wants to purchase equipment but can’t get in touch with the Clem family, so could it be that Vincent has connections with the Clem family?”
Tina shook her head.
