Chapter 232

Josie tried several times in succession to shake off his hand, but was unable to do so. Her expression turned cold. She said, โ€œI donโ€™t care who you work for. I do not consent to an interview. Please let go of me!โ€

No sooner had she finished speaking than a large number of reporters emerged from the corner. The cameras were positioned so close that they were nearly pressed against her face. If not for the access control barrier, they might have crowded her to the point of causing her to fall.

A reporter asked, โ€œJosie, what were you feeling when you stepped forward? Didnโ€™t you think about the consequences?โ€

Another person asked, โ€œIf anything bad happened to Mr. Longley, could you take responsibility for it?โ€

A third asked, โ€œPeople online said that, given the situation at the time, it was best not to move the patient. Yet you disregarded this and lifted the patient. Were you trying to become famous by doing so?โ€

Someone else asked, โ€œWhat is the purpose of doing this?โ€

Josieโ€™s face turned livid with anger. She had thought that, after all she had experienced in her previous life, she would no longer care about such misunderstandings. Yet in that moment, she was still very angry.

She thought, โ€˜Why are there so many people in this world whose speculation about othersโ€˜ hearts is filled with malice? Is it because there are too many bad people? Are those who perform good deeds always the ones who end up being taken advantage of?โ€™

Josie was almost in tears. During her struggle with the reporter, her food delivery fell to the ground. Seeing the steaming meal on the ground, she was angered to tears. She said, โ€˜Leave. All of you, leave. Compensate me for my meal. You must compensate me for my meal!โ€

No one expected that she would suddenly jump up and start scolding people, all while crying like a child. All the journalists were stunned.

At that moment, a person rushed in from the crowd, forcefully pushed aside the reporter who was grabbing Josie, and pulled her upstairs. Josie was crying so hard that she was gasping for breath. She was really angry.

That was her favorite food, and she had not even tasted a single bite before it was gone. She felt that those journalists were really too much.

As soon as he entered the room, Sean saw that she was still crying. He really didnโ€™t know what to do, and instinctively just drew her into his arms. He asked, โ€œThere, there. Donโ€™t cry. Are you hurt? Let me see.โ€

Apart from some pain in her arm from being pulled, Josie was not injured. Moreover, her tears were not due to any physical harm. She leaned against Sean, sobbing and sniffling.

She said, โ€œMy braised short ribs are gone. I havenโ€™t even had a single bite. How could they do this? This is outrageous! I already said I wouldnโ€™t accept their interview, so why are they still holding onto me and not letting me leave? This is going too far.โ€

At the thought of her meal, Josie began to cry loudly again, โ€œSean, I truly realize my mistake. I should have listened to Professor Wilcourt and not provoked these media outlets. They really are terrifying. They destroyed my meal. They are so rude!โ€

Sean was originally quite worried about her, but as soon as he heard what she said, he couldnโ€™t help but laugh. He said, โ€œItโ€™s okay. How about I buy more for you? I will buy two portions for you.โ€

โ€œI wonโ€™t be able to finish it. Just ask for some extra in one portion.โ€ Josie stopped crying and, blinking her large, watery eyes, looked at Sean. She asked, โ€œWhy did you come? There are no experiments scheduled today. Did Professor Wilcourt ask you to come? Is there a new assignment?โ€

โ€œNo!โ€ Sean helped her sit down. โ€œI was concerned you might be bored alone, so I came to see you.โ€

Josie paused in the act of wiping her face with a tissue. โ€œDid you also see the comments online?โ€

Seanโ€™s expression tightened. โ€œSo, does that mean youโ€™ve already seen them?โ€

Josie nodded. She said, โ€œI saw them while using my phone to order takeout, but I donโ€™t care. Anyway, they donโ€™t know me, and I donโ€™t need them to judge what kind of person I am.โ€

Sean had noticed for some time that Josie seemed entirely unconcerned by the online comments directed at her. It was not that she did not feel sad about them, but rather that her response was marked by an extraordinary sense of indifference. It was as if she had known all along that this would happen.

He thought, โ€˜What exactly has she experienced in the past that has caused her to be so indifferent to othersโ€˜ evaluations?โ€™
