Chapter 132
He said, โYes, Professor, I swear I wasnโt trying to trick you. I did all the experiments myself. Itโs just about the data recording partโฆโ
โEnough.โ David waved his hand dismissively, clearly unimpressed. โAt this point, stop trying to pin everything on Josie. She was on my team for less than three years, and she managed to run 271 experiments. For every single one, she wrote up a full report. That alone is something you all should take a lesson from. If any of you had even half her dedication, I wouldnโt have to lose face like this today. Kyle, youโd better keep that in mind. From now on, if you ever try to cut corners or mess with the experimental data again, donโt blame me for kicking you off the team.โ
David stood up, hesitated for a couple of seconds, then stepped forward and kicked Kyle. โIf you still see me as your mentor, then take this as a lesson from me. If you think Iโm out of line, I donโt mind if you go to the Department of Student Affairs and report me for physical punishment.โ
โI wonโt, Professor.โ Kyle bent over to take the kick. โI know you mean well. Thank you for giving me another chance, Professor. I swear, from now on, Iโll put my heart into my experiments and never let anyone else handle my lab work again.โ
David pointed a finger at his face. โWe will see.โ
Those words made Kyle wish the ground would just swallow him up.
Kyle fumed inwardly, โJosie, why is it always her? She has already left the team, so why is she still screwing me over? She promised that she would never show her paper to anyone, never let anyone see her experimental data. Why couldnโt she just keep her promise?โ
Right then, Kyle hated Josie more than heโd ever hated anyone in his life.
What Kyle didnโt realize was that all the experimental data and papers Josie had recorded were simply archived in the teamโs shared folder. If David hadnโt been so eager to prove Josieโs incompetence in front of everyone, Kyle wouldnโt have ended up losing all his dignity like this.
Kyle had always been the one who could get along with everyone. But now, he could clearly feel contempt in the eyes of his teammates whenever they looked at him. College was its own society, and Davidโs team was a society within that society. It didnโt matter if the members of his team came from a poor family, as long as their grades were top-notch. But if their academics were just average, then theyโd better be filthy rich. There were academic stars like Vincent and Gavin, and then there were the rich heirs, like Jaden and Aiden. If people couldnโt contribute to the team with their intelligence, then they had to support it with their wallet.
However, all Kyle ever had was his smooth talk. But now, even that had been shut down by Josie. At this point, he had nothing left. He was right at the bottom of the team. It was all thanks to Josie.
โI hate her. I really hate Josie!โ Kyle fumed inwardly.
โAlright, get up. Everyone should leave now.โ Aiden helped him to his feet. He asked, โSeriously though, all the experimental data gets saved in the teamโs shared folder. Did you really not even check it before you started writing your paper?โ
Kyle shook his head, disbelief written all over his face. He said, โThat experiment was my minor. Iโve been studying it for years, and Josie never had any experience with it at all. She only bothered to read two books just to help me out with the experiment. Even if she recorded every bit of the experimental data, thereโs no way in hell her paper could be better than mine. Unless someone gave her a hand!โ
Aidenโs eyes flickered. โWait, youโre not seriously suspecting Vincent and Gavin, are you?โ
โI donโt know.โ Kyle shook his head. He said, โI know Iโm the least capable one on the team, so Iโve always tried my best. I never wanted to disappoint the professor, but in the end, I still let him down.โ
