Listen to this chapter:

Kyle cursed under his breath. โ€œDidnโ€™t you tell her Natalie hasnโ€™t shown up at school for three days?โ€

โ€œWhat does Natalie not coming to school have to do with her?โ€ Vincent shot him a sharp look. He added, โ€œInstead of grilling Josie, why donโ€™t you just try calling Natalie a few more times?โ€

Kyle kicked a stool in frustration. โ€œYou think I havenโ€™t tried? She wonโ€™t pick up. Her depression must be acting up again. Itโ€™s all Josieโ€™s fault. If Josie hadnโ€™t hogged all the attention at the school competition, Natalie wouldnโ€™t haveโ€ฆโ€

Aiden said as he walked in from outside, โ€œShut up. Natalie isnโ€™t that narrow-minded. If Josie stands out, itโ€™s because sheโ€™s got the skills. We should congratulate her.โ€ He shot a look around. โ€œAnd donโ€™t let me hear that kind of talk again. Just because youโ€™re petty doesnโ€™t mean the whole team is. Professor Lawson isnโ€™t the type to be jealous of Josieโ€™s success, either.โ€ He waved his hand. โ€œAlright, get back to work. Since Josie doesnโ€™t need us anymore, letโ€™s just leave her alone.โ€ He added, โ€œStop worrying about Natalie. Sheโ€™ll be back at school tomorrow. She couldnโ€™t make it these past few days because she had a little accident on her way home. It has nothing to do with Josie getting attention. Everyone clear on that?โ€

Aiden swept his gaze over the group. Everyone nodded in unison. โ€œGot it!โ€

Once everyone had left, Aiden stopped Gavin. โ€œCome in with me.โ€ They stepped into the back room. Aiden turned to Gavin. โ€œSo, what exactly did Josie say?โ€

โ€œJust what I said beforeโ€ฆโ€ Gavin recapped everything for Aiden. He added, โ€œIโ€™ve seen her practically living in the library, pulling all-nighters just to catch up on her coursework. Honestly, she had zero time to secretly pick up acupuncture. Maybe we really did her wrong.โ€

Even though Aiden really didnโ€™t want to admit it, he had to face the truth that Gavin was right. There was no way Josie was Delilahโ€™s spy. However, he still couldnโ€™t accept the fact that Josie could master acupuncture in just a month. He just couldnโ€™t believe she was smarter than him. He felt that it was absolutely impossible. It was a fact that Delilah had helped her, whether it was with research papers or professional knowledge. Aiden felt that Josie had an unfair advantage over the other students, and that couldnโ€™t be allowed to go on.

Aiden said, โ€œGavin, I know youโ€™re still hung up on the past with her, but things arenโ€™t as simple as you think. Youโ€™ll find out what kind of person Josie really is soon. Now, get out.โ€ Aiden waved his hand dismissively, clearly not interested in explaining further.

Even though Gavin didnโ€™t really get what Aiden meant, he still wanted to remind him. He said, โ€œIf you have time, maybe try talking to Natalie a bit more. I just feel like sheโ€™s got some misunderstandings about Josie. Honestly, Josie doesnโ€™t have any real malice toward her. Natalie doesnโ€™t need to take everything so personally.โ€

As Gavin stepped out of the back room, he rubbed his temples. He had no idea if Aiden would actually talk to Natalie, but with the way Josie was acting now, he figured it was better not to get on her bad side. He thought, โ€˜Natalieโ€™s basically my wallet these days. I really canโ€™t afford for anything to happen to her!โ€™

After Gavin left, Aiden also left the lab and headed to the faculty building. He walked into Davidโ€™s office.

โ€œProfessor, these are the materials you asked me to prepare,โ€ Aiden said, handing over a stack of documents. He added, โ€œHereโ€™s all the experimental data Josie was involved with during her two-plus years on the team. I checked, and up until she left, she hadnโ€™t completed a single experiment on her own. She did write quite a few papers, but not a single one ever got published.โ€

David nodded. โ€œGot it. Just leave them here.โ€

Seeing that David had no intention of even glancing at the documents, Aiden couldnโ€™t help but speak up. Aiden asked, โ€œProfessor, do we really have to take it this far? Josie really didnโ€™t do anything wrong. If anyoneโ€™s at fault, itโ€™s Professor Wilcourt. Isnโ€™t it unfair for Josie to take all the blame for this?โ€
