Chapter 115
Josie stormed into the faculty building. She came to see Delilah.
Josie fumed inwardly, "Kyle is so annoying. He always meddles in things that have nothing to do with him. In my previous life, he ruined me with his lies, and now heโs trying to drag me through the mud every chance he gets. Looks like Iโve been too nice. They really think Iโm still the same pushover as before. This canโt go on. I need to come up with a way to make sure they donโt dare mess with me again!"
Just as Josie was still racking her brain for a solution, the office door opened from inside.
โWhyโd you come in without knocking?โ Delilah asked, totally at ease. โWhat are you waiting for?โ
Josieโs cheeks turned pink. โNothing, really. I was just trying to calm myself down first. I didnโt want to bring my bad mood in and bother you.โ
โSo, have you calmed down now? If not, I can just close the door and let you try again,โ Delilah said, making a show of closing the door.
Afraid Delilah really would shut her out, Josie quickly squeezed through the door before she could close it.
โProfessor Wilcourt, I have something really important I need your help with,โ Josie said.
Originally, sheโd planned to wait until after the competition results were out to bring it up, but she was afraid sheโd miss her chance if she waited. Judging from the reaction during the first round, it looked like a lot of professors already had their eyes on Joseph.
โSo, tell me. Whatโs so serious that youโd come to me looking like this?โ Delilah asked, settling back behind her desk and glancing up at Josie.
Josie told Delilah about her idea to get Joseph an internship at the central research institute.
Josie said, โYouโve seen Josephโs work, right? Heโs got real potential. I promise, if you help him, itโll totally be worth it for you. Heโll blow you away someday.โ
โHeโs not even my student. How could he possibly surprise me?โ Delilah replied with a playful look. She added, โBesides, why are you so eager to help him? Whatโs in it for you?โ
Josie didnโt rush. She calmly explained to Delilah, โIf Joseph can get an internship at the Central Research Institution, we could bring him over to the hospital. As a visiting talent, we can have him join our research team. You said before that our team researching the combined treatment of cytology and acupuncture is short-handed. Professor Jeremy Wilcourt and Professor Sommers are only providing technical support, and they might not have much time to actually be at the hospital. With Joseph on board, heโd be a huge asset to our research!โ
Delilah frowned slightly. โIf I remember right, his major is clinical medicine. Heโs not bad at it, right?โ
โNot just not bad. Heโs been the top student in his major every single year!โ Josie said, sticking out her tongue playfully.
Delilah grinned. โCome on, spill it. Why are you so eager to help him?โ
โWho says Iโm helping him? Iโm just thinking about the future of our team!โ Josie said, winking at Delilah.
Delilah gave her a playful tap on the head. โEnough with the jokes. Be straight with me!โ
Josie explained, "Honestly, his girlfriend is my roommate. Josephโs family is from a mid-sized city down south. If he canโt stay in Aloville for his internship, theyโll either have to have a long-distance relationship or just break up. I really donโt want to see my roommate upset, and sheโs about to take her grad school entrance exams. Iโm worried this whole thing might throw her off.โ
Delilah looked a bit surprised. โYou really are kind, worrying about your roommate like this. Arenโt you worried Joseph might take advantage of your kindness?โ
Josie said, โNo way. My roommate is pretty and kind-hearted. Her boyfriend canโt be that bad either. Thatโs the first reason. Second, I really do think heโs got talent and could actually help you out. If he doesnโt cut it, you can just kick him out after the internship - no big deal.โ
โYou really dare to say anything, huh?โ Delilah teased, tapping Josie on the forehead. โIโll put in a word with Jeremy. If Joseph really proves himself, he can stay at the institute,โ Delilah said.
