Chapter 105

โ€œNot at all,โ€ Josie quickly waved her hands and explained.

In her previous life, sheโ€™d suffered from stomach problems and had been so traumatized by the pain. Sheโ€™d always had poor eating habits, especially in the last two years. Afraid of going through that pain again, she tried to take precautions. However, she didnโ€™t expect it to bring her such unexpected benefits.

After hearing Josieโ€™s explanation, the two of them let out a sigh of relief.

Claire said, her face full of concern, โ€œThatโ€™s good. From now on, you have to eat properly. If you ever feel unwell, promise youโ€™ll tell us right away. Donโ€™t keep it to yourself.โ€

Sean gave her a serious look. โ€œYour health is the foundation of everything. Donโ€™t take it for granted.โ€

โ€œOkay, I promise I wonโ€™t neglect my health. Iโ€™ll listen to you and Sean. Iโ€™ll be good,โ€ Josie said, looking extra sweet and eager to please.

Claire couldnโ€™t resist pinching her cheek again. โ€œYes, Josie, youโ€™re the sweetest! Come on, letโ€™s go eat. Weโ€™ll treat ourselves to something nice tonight.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t think I can,โ€ Josie said while glancing at Sean, โ€œSomeoneโ€™s waiting for me at the school gate. I need to go there first.โ€

Claire was about to ask more when Sean cut in, โ€œYou go ahead and reserve a table. Iโ€™ll go with Josie to take care of something, and weโ€™ll meet you later.โ€

Seeing how serious they both looked, Claire decided not to ask any more questions.

โ€œIf anything comes up, you have to tell me, okay? No secrets,โ€ she insisted.

Josie didnโ€™t want her to worry. โ€œI know, Claire, Seanโ€™s with me. Itโ€™s nothing serious. Just go ahead and reserve the table. Weโ€™ll be back soon.โ€

The three of them parted ways at the school gate. Sean accompanied Josie to a car parked nearby, where a young policewoman had already been waiting for quite some time.

After they left, the competition had just wrapped up. The host announced a thirty-minute break, and said that after the break, the top thirty entries from each group would be announced.

As soon as the teacher walked out, the whole venue instantly buzzed with excitement.

โ€œDid anyone see what just happened? Iโ€™m so lost right now,โ€ one student said.

โ€œSame here. To mess with a former teammate so blatantly, right in front of the whole school? Thatโ€™s just shameless,โ€ another replied.

โ€œKeep your voice down. That guyโ€™s like the devil. Are you trying to get yourself killed?โ€ someone warned.

โ€œSo what? He still got totally owned by Claire in front of everyone. That was so satisfying,โ€ someone else said with a smirk.

โ€œSeriously, theyโ€™ve always acted so cocky. Looks like they finally ran into a brick wall this time!โ€ another chimed in.

Someone mused, โ€œHas anyone ever thought that these people got so cocky because Claireโ€™s group never joined the school competitions before?โ€

โ€œExactly. The contest just kicked off, and itโ€™s already blowing up. Thereโ€™s definitely more drama to come!โ€ another student said.

Someone argued, โ€œIโ€™m not so sure. Their project is creative, but come on, itโ€™s acupuncture. Howโ€™s that supposed to compete with the super popular field of cytology?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s exactly where they lost out. If it wasnโ€™t for the whole major thing, Professor Wilcourt wouldnโ€™t keep getting outshone by Professor Lawson,โ€ another chimed in.

โ€œLetโ€™s just keep watching. It all comes down to what the judges decide. Iโ€™ve got a feeling this isnโ€™t the end of it,โ€ someone said.

Listening to all the heated gossip, Aiden and his friends couldnโ€™t help but have their faces go through a whole range of emotions.

โ€œAre you satisfied now?โ€ Aiden shot Jaden a look, a flicker of contempt at the corner of his mouth. He continued, โ€œYou are so impulsive and arrogant. How many times has Professor Lawson told you to rein it in? This is a school competition, not your lab. Josie is Professor Wilcourtโ€™s student now. Sheโ€™s not your teammate anymore, so you donโ€™t get to call her out in front of everyone. Who do you think you are, acting like you still have any right to lecture her?โ€

Gavin scoffed. โ€œIf you could actually put her in her place, thatโ€™d at least be something. But what was that supposed to be? You just made her look good in front of everyone. You let the whole school see how much sheโ€™s leveled up since she left our team.โ€

โ€œWhatโ€™s that supposed to mean, Gavin?โ€ Jaden shot up from his seat, his voice cracking with anger and instantly drawing everyoneโ€™s attention.

Natalie felt her face burn with embarrassment and quickly grabbed Jadenโ€™s sleeve. She said, โ€œJaden, donโ€™t lose your temper. Everyoneโ€™s watching us. Honestly, this isnโ€™t on you. Josie is way too sly. She set you up to look bad. Who couldโ€™ve guessed sheโ€™d get so good so fast? Itโ€™s just unreal.โ€
