Chapter 67: Make a Fool of Himself โ€” Finished

After ending the call, disappointment etched William's face. He hadn't expected Jessica's harsh reaction. Turning to Jennie, he sighed deeply. "I'm sorry," he said. "I apologize on Jessica's behalf. Sheโ€ฆ she's lost it. I'll definitely have a seriousโ€”"

"It's okay," Jennie interrupted calmly. "I know she loves you. Love can make people act crazy. I understand." Internally, however, excitement surged. William mentioning divorce felt like unexpected luck, pulling him closer to her. Her gaze lingered on him, but he looked away, discomfort evident in his eyes.

Jennie maintained a facade of vulnerability, projecting wronged innocence. William's heart softened, and impulsively, he grabbed her wrist.

Jennie's shock was about to translate into protest, but William preempted her. "Let me take you to clear things up!" he declared, pulling her along.

Panic raced through Jennie's mind. How could I dare clarify things now? She wanted to stop him, but it was too late.

Seeing Jennie's distress, William felt a mix of pity and resolve. He felt compelled to stand by her, determined to seek justice for them both.

Meanwhile, their managers, distracted by deleting online posts, failed to prevent William's impulsive "march for justice."

The makeup room doors burst open, silencing the noisy room. No one expected William and Jennie's sudden return. They had mentally prepared themselves to avoid William's group for the upcoming shoot, given the embarrassing public exposure of their private affairs.

Oh no, someone thought, their return is incredibly awkward! I can't meet their eyes!

Damn, he actually came back, another thought. Shouldn't he be too ashamed to show his face, finish his work alone, and then sneak away?

Isabella, Christopher, Hayden, and others were equally surprised.

It's almost as if they're using the tactic: if I'm not embarrassed, the embarrassment falls on others, someone observed. Indeed, those who survive in the entertainment industry aren't known for thin skins.

Isabella inwardly complained as she saw William, pale-faced, striding toward her with Jennie. His expression showed he was suffering. However, still smarting from his embarrassment, he redirected his anger.

"Ms. Isabella," he said, "it was one thing when you snatched Jennie's dress, but now you're spreading baseless rumors about my relationship with my junior. Isn't that crossing the line?" His gaze swept over Hayden and Christopher.

Jennie's face paled; her heart pounded. Suddenly, she remembered the store would never release surveillance footageโ€”violating customer privacy and harming the brand's reputation. That day's events were unverifiable, relying solely on their accounts. With William's trust, what did she have to worry about? She resolved to maintain the deception.

Everyone's attention was recaptured. Is there more to this story? they wondered. Was the earlier joke not a fluke, but something explosive?

Isabella was taken aback. She'd intended only to scare them, hoping they'd retreat in guilt. She never expected a confrontation.

I did snatch the dress for Jessica and set a trap, she thought, butโ€ฆ am I spreading rumors? How did he reach that conclusion? As expected, for these scumbags, everything their wives say is false, and everything the mistress says is gospel.

Christopher furrowed his brows, ready to defend Isabella, but Hayden stopped him, attempting a diplomatic response. "Mr. Sawyer, it's a misunderstanding. Isabella was talking about someone else. How did you two take it personally?"

William's manager joined the frayโ€”though calm management would have been wiser. William had already charged ahead with his accusations and felt cornered.

"Everyone knows who Ms. Jeannet refers to," William's manager argued. "We're not troublemakers, but we're not afraid of trouble either. We'll all work together on future projects, so it's best to clear up misunderstandings now. We believe Ms. Jeannet may have been mistaken."

Good grief, someone thought, this manager and William couldn't muster a single functioning brain. They actually believed Jennie's flimsy story.

The confrontation escalated, the air thick with tension. Other staff members scurried for the director and producer. Excitement buzzed among onlookers, some nearly ready to cheer.

"Heh, have our people apologize?" Christopher retorted coldly. "Are you?"

The tension escalated as William, Christopher, and Hayden faced off, each determined to protect their interests and reputations.

"This might be asking too much," Hayden added gravely. "I believe Ms. Jeannet probably didn't do anything wrong." Despite his frustration, he remained convinced of Isabella's honesty.

"Are you trying to cover for her?" William accused, his anger palpable.

Just as Christopher and Hayden prepared to respond, Isabella cut in, feigning confusion. "Wait, I didn't quite catch that," she said innocently. "Mr. Sawyer, did you just accuse me of spreading rumors?"

"Didn't you?" William shot back.

Isabella looked genuinely puzzled. "So you're not married? Still single?"

William, caught off guard, didn't know how to reply.

Isabella smirked. "Or are you saying you didn't cancel your wife's card because of Ms. Woods, nor did you give her your VIP supplementary card?"

William's pupils shrank.

"Are you saying it wasn't intentional that you didn't pick up your wife's calls? She couldn't reach you through your assistant, yet you responded to Ms. Woods instantly?"

As William's face reddened, Isabella pressed on: "Could it be that your wife and Ms. Woods never actually met that day?"

Remembering the slap and accusation, William found it hard to breathe.

In an earnest tone, Isabella continued, "Mr. Sawyer, where exactly did I spread false rumors?"

Rather than demanding I prove my innocence, perhaps it's time your true colors as a hypocrite were revealed! she thought.

Christopher felt relief. Isabella was not one to be easily bullied.

The audience's initial skepticism shifted as they waited for William's response. The silence spoke volumes. Even Connor seemed shocked.

Doesn't this silence confirm the issues were true? someone thought. And here I thought there would be a twist!

Chapter 67: Make a Fool of Himself โ€” Finished

Why did he come back, only to make a fool of himself?

William's bluster and misplaced righteousness baffled everyone. How could he be so confident? He must be a fool.
