Chapter 37: How Should I Put It?
There wasn't enough time for him to react, so at that critical moment, he used his height to shield Luna. The blade meant for Luna slashed Christopher's shoulder instead, staining his white shirt crimson. By the time Luna turned around, Christopher was swaying unsteadily.
"Christopher!" Luna cried, her pupils constricting. Screams echoed through the hall. Two male researchers, recovering from their shock, rushed to subdue the knife-wielding attacker.
"Zeke! It's you! Have you lost your mind?" The female researcher, supporting the traumatized professor, retreated.
"You shameless bitch! I'll kill you! Let's see if you dare spread rumors again!" Zeke, Anais's ex-boyfriend, glared at Luna, his black hood falling back. His eyes blazing with rage, he bellowed, ready to attack. "If it weren't for you, Anais wouldn't have left me! You couldn't stand to see us happy!"
Several security guards, alerted by Thalia, quickly surrounded Zeke, who frantically tried to break free. They chased him away from the crowd.
Christopher, drained from blood loss, collapsed. Luna, seeing him covered in blood, was reminded of a similar traumatic event from her past. Her face paled as she frantically applied pressure to his wound. "Ambulanceโฆ we need an ambulance!"
The sweating hotel manager grabbed his walkie-talkie and called for help. "Our hotel has a highly professional medical team. They'll be here soon. We'll handle this," he said, simultaneously calling an ambulance.
Everyone gathered around Christopher.
"Thankfully, his aorta isn't injured," someone said. "It only slashed muscle. It's not severe."
Despite her efforts, Luna's hand trembled uncontrollably. Christopher, feeling it, managed a weak smile. "Don't worry, I'm fine."
"Youโฆ" Luna bit her lip, tears welling. "It's all my fault. If I hadn't meddledโฆ"
Everyone was distressed. Christopher patted her awkwardly. "It's not your fault. They were wrong."
Isabella approached, frowning. Christopher said, "Isabella, I owe you one. Thank you." He genuinely appreciated her timely warning; without it, Luna would have been killed. The thought terrified him; Luna meant more to him than his own life.
Luna, now composed, looked gratefully at Isabella. Others expressed relief. Isabella remained silent, her gaze unfocused. Christopher, about to reassure her, heard her inner thoughts: This is weird. Why is it Zeke?
Christopher was puzzled. He recalled seeing Bianca, intending to inject Luna with an STD. That's why he'd rushed to intervene. The realization alarmed him. Isabella had looked up Bianca's situation after waking.
If Zeke's appearance was unexpected, Bianca must still be nearby. Christopher instantly grabbed Luna. Assuming he was in pain, she anxiously asked, "What's wrong?"
Screams echoed from the direction Zeke fled. A woman's voice was heard. Had he hurt someone else?
The medical team arrived. The anxious manager rushed down the corridor with a doctor. The male researchers followed. Isabella stayed back, wary of Bianca. Despite his blood loss, Christopher remained alert.
Soon, the manager returned, pale, with the researchers. Their worried gazes fell on Christopher and Luna. Christopher's wound was treated.
"What's wrong?" Christopher asked. "Did he run away?"
"He was apprehended, but not before injuring others," the manager replied. He then turned to Luna. "If I'm not mistaken, you're related to Ms. Bianca, right?" Bianca and Luna's resemblance was striking.
Luna frowned. Christopher asked, "You saw Bianca?"
Isabella, startled, checked the system. Oh my goodness! How should I put itโฆ
The male researcher exclaimed, "Bianca was attacked by Zeke! He mistook her for you in his madness."
Everyone was stunned. This was karma; Bianca had previously used Luna's identity.
The manager said, "Ms. Bianca is seriously injured and needs hospital treatment. Ms. Luna, will you go with her?"
Luna hesitated, then agreed.
"Stay out of this," Christopher interrupted. He wouldn't let her get involved with such a dangerous person, nor face her family's reaction. He gave the manager a number. "Contact her parents directly."
Luna was relieved. She wanted nothing to do with that family.
After contacting Bianca's parents, Christopher added, "Tell your medical team to be cautious. Bianca has a contagious disease."
Silence fell. Everyone was shocked that he'd revealed such sensitive information.
Christopher sneered. Why should I keep her secret, considering her plans? I have to protect the medical team too.
