Chapter 176: Cries Everywhere

Linda's face contorted. Despite her dislike for Stephanie, she expected respect. Seeing Stephanie's mocking expression and unfinished sentence, she demanded, "What are you trying to say?"

Stephanie taunted, "I hear you dislike me, your biological daughter, because you dreamt I'd cause your downfall and imprisonment."

Linda froze as Stephanie continued, smiling, "Well, who did cause your downfall and imprisonment? Me? No! Your precious godson! Congratulations, your dream came trueโ€”in a different way." A nearby police officer nearly laughed aloud.

Linda's face twisted. She lunged at Stephanie, but Stephanie grabbed her wrist. "You gave up custody," she said, "so you have no right to discipline me!"

Releasing Linda's hand, Stephanie walked away, ignoring her devastated mother. Opening the door, she saw Scarlett and Roland. Scarlett was finalizing the fraud case; Roland was escorting her. Unrecognizing them, Stephanie didn't greet them. But then she heard Linda's furious outburst directed at Scarlett.

"It's all your fault, you bitch! If it weren't for you, this wouldn't have happened! You're to blame! Did you set this up?"

Roland rolled his eyes, making Stephanie pause. She expected serious police, but his casual demeanor surprised her. She felt a strange familiarity. Scarlett, finally losing patience, replied coldly, "Madam Pearson, are you still living in a fantasy? The drugs were found on Javier. How can you blame me? Oh, and I just remembered somethingโ€ฆ"

Scarlett frowned. "You dislike me because you suspect I stole your necklace."

Linda was stunned by Scarlett's public accusation.

"Actually, your necklace did go missing. If it was stolen, it was likely Javier."

"What? Are you crazy? He's my godson!"

Scarlett laughed. "So what? He was my boyfriend once, too, and he secretly took photos of me and then scammed me. I know he started paying off gambling debts around that time. And about stealing your jewelryโ€ฆ yes, that pearl necklace you're wearing would be more than enough to pay his debts." Everyone looked at Linda's pearl necklace.

Linda felt uneasy and touched the necklace. "Stop slandering him. If he stole it, where is it?"

Scarlett said, "At first, I didn't suspect him either. But now it's clearโ€”he could have hidden the pearlsโ€ฆ"
