Chapter 685

Hearing a thud from the ward, Samuel quickly looked through the window. He saw Dan collapse on the floor. Samuel anxiously yelled, โ€œDoctor! Doctor! Please hurry, Mr. Murry has fainted again!โ€ Heโ€™d already passed out several times since yesterday. He was first knocked unconscious by Sofia, and then fainted three more times from anger. Sofia was truly behaving like a demonโ€ฆ

After leaving the Giovanni residence, Richard leaned against his car, smoked two cigarettes, then called Sofia. The phone barely rang twice when Sofia answered. Before Richard could speak, she snapped, โ€œWhat do you want, Dan Murry? Donโ€™t you dare slander Richard!โ€

โ€œWe grew up together. Heโ€™s my childhood friendโ€”I know exactly what kind of person he is. Heโ€™s not a shameless jerk like you!โ€ The more she talked, the angrier she got. The words โ€œshameless jerkโ€ made Richardโ€™s eyebrows twitch uncontrollably.

She added, โ€œCanโ€™t even own up to what you didโ€”then ran off? Pathetic. You even used Richard as a shield. Trying to make us fight and divorce? Well, I wonโ€™t let that happen. Iโ€™m committed to him for life, and I will never divorce him.โ€ Her words stunned Richard.

Sofia went on, โ€œI know Richard too well. Itโ€™s not about liking or notโ€”he wouldnโ€™t dare, anyway. Even if I were naked in front of him, I bet he wouldnโ€™t lay a finger on me. And youโ€™re trying to stir up drama? Please.โ€ Sofia ranted on about her utter distrust of Dan, calling him a meddling gossip who loved to stir up trouble. Worse yet, she was outright challenging Richardโ€™s manhoodโ€”especially with that mocking โ€œhe wouldnโ€™t dareโ€ line. That really got under his skin.

Just when Sofia was about to continue her rant against Dan, Richard interrupted her. โ€œYouโ€™re right. I wouldnโ€™t dare.โ€ Sofiaโ€™s thoughts vanished instantly.

She had just gotten off the plane at the airport in Yorathia. She quickly checked the number when she heard his voiceโ€”yep, it was Richard. โ€œOh, is something wrong with the Casalini family again? Look, maybe donโ€™t rush thingsโ€ฆ I know youโ€™re eager for revenge, but I just got a ton of money out of them. If I go back now, it wonโ€™t work out.โ€

Sofia had always been clear about what this marriage was. She knew he was using her to get revenge on the Casalini family. Her temper was enough to drive them crazy. However, just now, everything she said about Dan was overheard by Richard. She still felt a little guilty. After all, Richard was her husband in name. Last night, she had used the excuse of settling scores with Luca to flee the country. In reality, she just wanted to avoid the awkward situation because it was hard to explain.

โ€œSofia,โ€ Richard said softly. Sofia gulped, feeling guilty. โ€œWell, Iโ€ฆโ€ She had always been fearless, but now, she felt a little nervous facing Richard. She would go back and deal with that jerk Dan herself. Richard was, after all, her husband in name. Heaven knew she never thought of betraying him during their marriage. Even though their relationship was impossible and would ultimately end in divorce, she had never considered cheating. She still had her moral bottom line.

She added, โ€œRichard, calm down. You donโ€™t have to confront Dan alone. Iโ€™ll take care of him myself. I never wanted to accuse you of anything. I was just drunk the other night. Maybe nothing happened between us.โ€ Sofiaโ€™s tone became urgent. The last sentence she said was spoken with guilt. Because something definitely happened. The bloodstains on the sheets and the pain in her legs were proof enough. What a mess this had become.

โ€œAre you worried that I fed him to the sharks?โ€ Richardโ€™s tone turned icy when he said this. โ€œNo, no, of course not. What does he matter to me? How could I be worried about him? I just think that as my husband, you shouldnโ€™t have gotten yourself into this mess over such a worthless thing, right?โ€ Sofia replied. To be honest, worry wasnโ€™t the right word for it. Sofia was used to taking revenge herself.

โ€œYou have to believe me, itโ€™s not like that,โ€ Sofia added. โ€œWhere are you now?โ€ Richard asked. โ€œYorathia,โ€ Sofia replied. โ€œRun so far away?โ€

โ€œYou know that Luca stole so much stuff from me. I finally caught up with her, I have to get my things back.โ€ Speaking of Luca, Sofia fumed. That bandit had taken so many of her things since they were kids, both openly and secretly. She couldnโ€™t understand what she had done in her past life to deserve this shameless woman who always caused her trouble.

โ€œYouโ€™re avoiding me,โ€ Richard said. โ€œNo, itโ€™s just thatโ€ฆ you know exactly what kind of marriage we have. This isnโ€™t cheating, right?โ€ Sofia felt a little guilty, and her voice lacked confidence. Richard chuckled. โ€œIndeed, itโ€™s not.โ€ His tone was meaningful. However, Sofia, her mind in turmoil, didnโ€™t catch the implication. But Richardโ€™s next words shocked her.

โ€œAh, then youโ€ฆโ€ Sofia stuttered. โ€œIโ€™m the one from the other night,โ€ Richard said calmly. Her already chaotic mind completely blanked out at that moment.

Richard said, โ€œYesterdayโ€™s incident was big enough. The fire should have died down by now.โ€ Sofia gulped. โ€œWhat are you talking about?โ€ She felt like she didnโ€™t hear correctly, or maybe it was too noisy with people coming and going at the airport and she misheard.

Richard said, โ€œThe person from the other night was me. Do you hear me clearly? Donโ€™t go looking for anyone to settle the score anymore, okay?โ€ Sofia paused. The air on the phone fell silent. Sofia felt like the air around her had also quieted down, her mind spinning, thinking, โ€˜Richard saidโ€ฆ it was him? Was thisโ€ฆ possible?โ€™

โ€œYouโ€ฆ You dare?โ€ She asked uncertainly, still extremely unsure. Richardโ€™s tone deepened. โ€œWhat do you think?โ€ Sofiaโ€™s mind went numb, then she took several deep breaths. โ€œWell, you donโ€™t have to do this.โ€ Richard felt confused.

โ€œWhat is that Dan? He deserves to be beaten to death, you donโ€™t have to cover for him.โ€ Sofia said as she was thinking, โ€˜Could it be that Richard was worried that she would really kill Dan? That didnโ€™t make sense. How could someone like Richard have such a worry?โ€™ Richard froze, his breath catching.

โ€œOh, forget it. Iโ€™m done talking to you. After I get my things back from Luca, Iโ€™ll get back to you. Consider it compensation,โ€ Sofia said. Without waiting for Richard to speak, Sofia hung up the phone. It was too messy. She couldnโ€™t let things get any more chaotic. Otherwise, her brain wouldnโ€™t be able to handle itโ€ฆ

The phone finally went silent. Sofia stood there like a wooden stake for a long time, her mind spinning. After a long time, she called Julia, who was the most decisive one. The moment the call connected, Sofia called out the other partyโ€™s name first, โ€œJulia?โ€ โ€œHuh?โ€ Julia answered.

Sofia had learned her lesson from the last time, when she said things she shouldnโ€™t have. This time, she had to make sure who she was talking to. Hearing Juliaโ€™s voice, Sofia said, โ€œRichard just called me and said that he was the one from the other night.โ€
