Julia quickly booked a room for Sofia. The waiter handed her the room card. “Hello, your room is on the 65th floor, Room 808.” Julia took the room card and said casually, “Thank you.” She took Sofia upstairs directly. As soon as they entered the elevator, Julia’s phone rang again, and Sofia was clinging to her. Julia held Sofia with one hand and picked up the phone with the other, pressing the elevator button for 66. “Thanks,” Julia said.
“You’re welcome. Do you need help getting her into the room?” the waiter said.
“No, I’m good.” Julia waved him off, then hoisted Sofia up and carried her into the room. The city lights kept the room from being too dark. Julia didn’t even bother with the lights before she tossed Sofia onto the bed.
The voice on the phone spoke again. “Julia, are you on your way yet?”
“Yeah, I’m just leaving,” Julia said. She thought, ‘Drunk people are so hard to deal with.’ She threw a blanket over Sofia and turned to leave the room. She didn’t notice anyone in the bathroom as she passed by. The door clicked shut.
Richard stumbled out of the bathroom, lightheaded. In the dimness, his skin felt hot to the touch, and he was running a fever, particularly in his groin. Richard gasped, his last shred of reason telling him to call Cliff. The other side picked up quickly. “Mr. Casalini.”
“Bring a doctor to Nocturna right now. I think I’ve been drugged,” Richard said. As a man who frequented nightclubs, he knew exactly what was happening to his body. A dangerous look flashed in his eyes, but soon after he hung up the phone, his last bit of sanity was completely drowned out.
