Chapter 638

Amber noticed Stephanieโ€™s silence and asked, โ€œDo you want it or not?โ€

Stephanie asked, โ€œWhat?โ€

โ€œMoney, of course. The Hart familyโ€™s money.โ€

Taking a deep breath, Stephanie replied, โ€œDo you really think I lack money now?โ€

โ€œYou may not need it, but the Hart familyโ€™s money is different; consider it a form of revenge.โ€

When Amber worked at Velvet, she witnessed how Tyler defended Olivia and insulted Stephanieโ€”it made her question the kind of person he truly was.

โ€œHow did you ever come to be interested in Tyler?โ€ Stephanie asked.

Upon hearing Stephanieโ€™s question, Amberโ€™s expression contorted, as if she had just tasted something foul.

Stephanie said, โ€œI mean, you even have his baby.โ€

Amber replied, โ€œDid you really believe all those rumors about me?โ€

Rumors suggested that Amber had used her child as a bargaining chip, but the plan failed. Caitlin had confronted her multiple times, each time with anger.

Amber scoffed, โ€œIf I must say, Iโ€™ve only been enticed by his wealth. I am poor; my child was an unexpected surprise, but now that it exists, I must take responsibility.โ€

She added, โ€œThat responsibility must pay.โ€

Amber certainly had a calculating mind. From the beginning, it was never Tyler she was interested in; it was his money.

Stephanie said, โ€œI do not look down on you.โ€

Life circumstances differ among individuals. Had Stephanie not crossed paths with the Giovanni family, it was uncertain whether she would have experienced such fortune.

Amber said, โ€œI began working at the age of fourteen, and Iโ€™ve engaged in every job imaginableโ€”waiting tables, distributing flyers, salesโ€”itโ€™s all the same to me. When I realized that selling alcohol yielded more profit, I transitioned; ethics mean little to me when compared to financial gain.โ€

For reasons unknown, Amber divulged so much to Stephanie. Stephanie listened quietly until Amber mentioned Tyler, at which point Stephanie interrupted, โ€œEnough. I get it; Tyler is a scoundrel.โ€

Amber paused momentarily but then chuckled, โ€œYou are correct; he is indeed a scoundrel.โ€

When discussing Tyler, Amberโ€™s tone bore no trace of emotion. It appeared as if she genuinely had been captivated solely by his wealth, rather than the man himself.

Stephanie wondered if Tyler would find it tragic when he realized this truth. Stephanie asked, โ€œWhat is your relationship with Tommy?โ€

Amber said, โ€œWe are getting married.โ€

With this simple declaration, Stephanieโ€™s confusion was resolved. Amber continued, โ€œTommy has vowed to love me for a lifetime and to protect both me and Ulric.โ€

Ulric was the babyโ€™s name. He could also be viewed as Stephanieโ€™s nephew.

Hearing Amber recount Tommyโ€™s promises left Stephanie somewhat speechless. โ€œDo you really believe that?โ€

โ€œNot really,โ€ Amber replied nonchalantly.

Stephanie asked, โ€œThen whyโ€”โ€

โ€œTommy possesses status and wealth; that is certainly appealing.โ€

โ€œAgain for the money?โ€

At Stephanieโ€™s comment, Amber fell silent. She retrieved a pack of cigarettes from her purse and inhaled deeply. Stephanie observed her, perceiving a hint of sadness in her profile.

Then Amber remarked, โ€œRomance is suited for princesses like you; for me, love is a luxury I cannot afford. We can only pursue money, especially after enduring poverty for so long.โ€

Stephanie felt a flicker of empathy. She couldnโ€™t fully comprehend the feelings Amber expressed, yet she could perceive the underlying sentiments in her tone.

Amber took one last drag from her cigarette, then pulled a card from her bag and handed it to Stephanie. โ€œFor you.โ€
