Chapter 613
Maxwell, who had come in to discuss something important, arrived just in time to hear Sofiaโs words. He was taken aback; after all, that was a rare insult for men.
Danโs breathing became rapid with rage. โSofia,โ he said.
Sofia snapped back. โDonโt call my name. Youโre such a creep, and you better hope you never run into me again, because every time I do, Iโll beat you up.โ With that, she hung up on Dan before he could respond. She was genuinely furious. She couldnโt accept that five years ago, she had been deceived by this creep.
Dan listened to the beep sound from the phone, his mind buzzing with frustration. He glanced up to see Maxwell standing at the door, and his expression darkened even further. โYou heard all of that?โ he demanded, his voice heavy with irritation.
โNo, I didnโt hear it,โ Maxwell forced a laugh, but it came out as a nervous, awkward sound. His face was pale, and he shifted uncomfortably, clearly wanting to escape. โWho would have thought?โ he thought to himself. โSheโs from the top family in Fiorenza, but she turned out like this? Thatโs really something.โ
Dan could tell from Maxwellโs expression that he was lying. โGet out,โ he snapped coldly.
Dan sighed inwardly, feeling a headache coming on. He had actually forgotten about that woman for five years. He thought back to the events in Sandara and the harsh words he had thrown at her. He knew she must hate him to the core by now.
โBut I have something important to say,โ Maxwell stammered nervously. He was terrified, but he knew he had to deliver the news. Hearing his boss being insulted like that had shaken him, and he was worried about the consequences.
Dan gave him a cold, piercing stare. โSpeak,โ he commanded.
โMrs. Lucano just met with Lamberto,โ Maxwell blurted out.
Danโs face darkened. Lamberto was a quirky character, but he was a crucial connection in their current plan. They wanted to use him to connect with another important contact.
โDid they have any significant dealings?โ Dan asked, his tone sharp.
โNo, they didnโt,โ Maxwell shook his head. He had been trying to get close to the Lucano family for years, but he had never been granted an audience with themโuntil now. Dan couldnโt shake the feeling that Sofia was somehow involved.
Maxwell hesitated, then continued, โCould it be because of what happened between you and Ms. Giovanni five years ago? Iโve heard stories. Both Lottie and Sebastian are very protective.โ
Danโs expression grew even more serious. The Giovanni and Lucano families were known for their loyalty and protectiveness. If Lottie had met with Lamberto because of Sofia, then their recent efforts would have been in vain. Lottieโs influence in Fiorenza was formidable, and Dan knew they were in trouble.
โFor Sofia? Canโt rule it outโฆโ Dan muttered, his mind racing with possibilities.
โIf it really is for Ms. Giovanni, then we have a real problem,โ Maxwell said, his voice trembling slightly.
Danโs mind was in turmoil. He had been involved with Sofia five years ago, but now he had a fiancรฉeโthe daughter of the deputy mayor of Sandara. He felt trapped, and for the first time in a long while, his usually calm demeanor was replaced by a deep sense of unease.
At the Giovanni residence, Stephanie was lying on the couch, chatting on the phone with Ella. Ever since she had returned to Fiorenza, Ella had been calling her more frequently than ever. But now, Stephanie actually felt a bit apprehensive about answering Ellaโs calls, because she never knew what kind of trouble Ella might have gotten into this time.
Just like now, as soon as Stephanie answered Ellaโs call, she blurted out, โCome on, what did you take from Lorenzo this time?โ Stephanie was used to Ellaโs knack for getting into trouble, but she was really worried that Ella might seriously upset Lorenzo.
Ella replied, โI didnโt take anything this time.โ
Hearing this, Stephanie let out a huge sigh of relief. โOh, thank goodness.โ She had been worried that Ella might have taken something from Lorenzo again. The problem was, when Ella got into this kind of trouble, Stephanie didnโt really know how to help her out of it, and that was pretty tough.
