Chapter 608
Sofia and Richard had another fight in the car just now. The more Sofia thought about it, the less she could get over it. But when she asked Richard why, he wouldnโt say anything. They said it was agreed upon by her mother and brother. Come on, it was Sofia doing all the helping, wasnโt it? He got his brother to agree, his mother to agree, and then turned around to threaten her when she didnโt.
Sofia was never one to just accept things, so they got into a fight. Richard now had a few more marks on his neck, even an obvious bite mark.
โWhy donโt you just pay for a marriage if you just need to solve a problem?โ she suggested.
He didnโt reply.
She added, โAs long as you offer enough money, there are plenty of women willing to marry you for a few months.โ
There was this one guy she knew, a real playboy, constantly pressured by his family to get married. His girlfriend had been forced away by his family a few years back, so he just casually threw some money at a woman to bring her home. It was purely in name only. And Sofia thought Richard could probably do the same thing now.
Richard listened to her lousy idea, snorted with a laugh, and said, โIโm broke.โ
Sofia thought, โIs that even a proper thing to say? Can he even say something like that?โ
Before she could say anything, Richard continued, โDo you think women are cheap these days? You wonโt get anywhere without a few million.โ
Sofia was shocked. โWasnโt it a few hundred thousand?โ
โDo you think itโs still five years ago?โ he sneered.
Sofia wondered, โYeah, that makes sense. Remember that guy? He spent 1.5 million dollars just to have an empty marriage with some woman for three years. And what happened? She refused to get divorced and even ran off pregnant! The whole โin name onlyโ thing totally backfiredโno wasted money there. But who knows what kind of pedestal they put that unattainable girl on in their hearts?โ
She asked, โSeriously, are you telling me youโre broke now, not even a few million left? You used to be a Casalini after all.โ
Although he had nothing to do with them now, when he completely severed ties with the Casalini family, he took away quite a bit. He made sure to get every cent that belonged to his mother, and even took a large part of the company too.
โSpent it all, okay?โ he retorted.
Sofia thought, โOkay, if you say so, but why doesnโt that sound believable?โ
She was aware of what Richard had built up in Paginara over a few years. Sure, he knew how to spend, but he was definitely good at making money too. But since he said that, Sofia chose to just ignore him.
Seeing she wasnโt speaking anymore, Richard chuckled, โWhat? Worried youโll be broke if you stick with me? Let me tell you, yeah, Iโm poor right now, but Dan is even poorerโso poor heโs trading his marriage for resources.โ
Sofia thought, โI mean, being poor is one thing, and no oneโs going to look down on you for it. But dragging others into your poverty, seriously, is that really okay?โ
She replied, โIt has nothing to do with me; it doesnโt affect me at all.โ
Richard smiled, โOh?โ
Sofia said, โTo put it bluntly, you handle your poverty, and Iโll enjoy my wealth. Just because weโre married doesnโt mean weโre stuck together. Keep dreaming.โ
Richard replied, โYou seem to have distanced yourself from it quite well.โ
โOh, please, remember why we got married. Mainly to solve your problems and, by the way, to annoy Dan.โ
It felt like Richard got everything his way. He was really something.
Richard listened to her angry tone, especially when she mentioned Danโs name, which she pronounced with gritted teeth.
Richard couldnโt help but say, โI get the feeling you also want to annoy Dan?โ
Sofia snorted, โCanโt we?โ
