Chapter 473
Every night, the bed would be in perfect order before she went to sleep, but by morning, it would be a mess, with the sheets lying on the floor. Groggily opening her eyes, she found herself in an unfamiliar room and was bewildered for a moment before remembering where she was.
Where is the patient? With such a high fever, where could he have gone? Ella was completely puzzled. She got up, found her phone, and checked the timeโit was already past nine in the morning. โAh, itโs so late,โ she exclaimed.
What did Lorenzo say to me last night? Something about eating oatmeal and cooking a meal? But at this hour, is it still breakfast? she pondered. Ella rubbed her eyes, left Lorenzoโs room, and went downstairs, yawning all the way.
Lorenzo was in the living room, smoking a cigarette. He saw Ella scratch her already disheveled hair, making it look even more like a birdโs nest. โAwake?โ he asked.
Ellaโs eyes widened in surprise as she looked at him. Seeing Lorenzo reminded her of what had happened last night, and her gaze instinctively dropped. Come to think of it, what Stephanie had told her might be true. After all, she had wiped his body for so long last night, and he hadnโt had any reaction at all.
Following her gaze, Lorenzoโs expression changed instantly. โWhat are you looking at?โ he suddenly asked. Ella snapped back to reality and quickly shook her head. โNo, I wasnโt looking at anything.โ Though she said nothing was wrong, she couldnโt help but think to herself, โWhat a waste of such a good physique and a handsome face, yet heโsโฆ not interested!โ
Seeing that Lorenzo wasnโt responding, Ella cleared her throat. โUm, you shouldnโt be smoking right now,โ she gently reminded him. Lorenzo raised an eyebrow. No one had ever told him that before. Injured or not, he didnโt think smoking was a problem.
Ellaโs stomach growled a little. There wasnโt even a cook in the kitchen now, which meant that even if Lorenzo didnโt eat, she would have to cook for herself. โUm, shall I make something for you to eat?โ she offered.
Lorenzo looked puzzled. โHuh?โ Ella explained, โAt this hour, itโll probably be close to noon by the time I finish cooking. How about we skip the oatmeal?โ Making oatmeal was quite troublesome, mainly because it took too long to cook. She just wanted something quick.
Lorenzo raised an eyebrow. โSo, what do you suggest?โ โHow about pasta?โ she proposed. โItโs quick to make, and Iโve made it for Stefi before. She said it was delicious.โ Lorenzo didnโt particularly like pasta, but he didnโt object either. โCome here,โ he said.
Ella hesitated. โWhโwhat for?โ She didnโt want to get close to this intimidating man. Lorenzo didnโt say anything more, just quietly looked at her. Ella sighed inwardly. Since this was Lorenzoโs place, she had to listen to him.
She reluctantly walked over to Lorenzo. The height difference between them was quite significant. Standing in front of him, she felt like a little girl. Lorenzo reached out and touched her cheek. His sudden action made Ella instinctively step back. โWhโwhat are you doing?โ She didnโt understand why he was being so intimate. They certainly werenโt in a relationship where that was appropriate.
โThereโs blood on your face,โ Lorenzo said. Ella blinked. โHuh? Blood? Where?โ โProbably from the nosebleed you had while taking care of me last night,โ Lorenzo explained.
Ellaโs heart skipped a beat. โOh no, I havenโt even cleaned that up yet?โ She instinctively wiped her face and felt some dried particles. Clearly, it was dried blood. Ella felt so embarrassed she could dig a mansion with her toes. Seeing her flustered state, Lorenzoโs eyes crinkled with amusement. โGo wash your face first,โ he said.
โOkay,โ Ella replied, turning and practically running away. Watching her retreating figure, Lorenzoโs lips curled into an amused smile. โKeeping her around might not be so bad after all,โ he thought to himself. At that moment, Lorenzo seemed to have forgotten how Ella had ended up by his side in the first place.
