Chapter 412
Upstairs, Amber handed Tyler the medicine. Her tone dripping with sarcasm, she said, โRight now, Iโm probably the only one who can come up with a solution for you. As for your mom, humph.โ
Tyler frowned, looking down at the bowl of medicine. โWas that car accident really her doing?โ
โSheโ was Olivia, and at this moment, Tylerโs voice was devoid of emotion.
Amber scoffed. โEven Chris hasnโt come to see her. Canโt you see that by now?โ
Tylerโs breathing quickened as memories flooded back. His mind flashed to when Chris had passed by his door, full of intensity and an intimidating presence. He had never seen Chris like this when facing Olivia. Back then, Tyler had sensed that something was off. Chris used to visit Olivia almost every day, but now it had been over three days without a single show-up from him.
As Tyler stayed silent, Amber urged, โTyler, you guys are just clueless. Hurry up and drink it. My son is counting on you to support him.โ
โYouโre treating me like a tool?โ Tyler snapped.
โWhat else? You think I would love someone this oblivious?โ Amber sneered. Besides money, there was nothing about Tyler she wanted.
Tylerโs breathing quickened as he shot her a fierce glare.
Amber glanced at her freshly manicured nails and remarked, โYour Hart family is seriously messed up.โ
โShut up,โ Tyler muttered, his irritation flaring.
โShut up? Everyoneโs telling me to shut up, but why doesnโt anyone say something useful?โ Amber retorted. She then sneered silently, โYou guys managed to piss off everyone in Long Harbor. Even Stephanie is now against you, and yet here you are, still running your mouth.โ
In another room, Olivia was surprised to see Catlin return with a face full of bruises. โMom, what happened to you?โ
Catlin trembled. โOliviaโโ
Olivia anxiously interjected before Catlin could finish speaking. โDid Stefi say anything? Will she lend you the money?โ
She was truly out of options. The medicine was extremely expensive, and now the Hart family was nearly bankrupt. The only person who might have that kind of money was Stephanie. As the Lucano familyโs golden child, she definitely had cash. While Olivia felt envious of Stephanieโs luck, she still hoped that Stephanie would be able to help her out.
โThereโs no way sheโd lend us money.โ Catlinโs face darkened. She had already anticipated this outcome before she even went, and now it felt like a cruel confirmation. Recently, she had tried borrowing from all the social circles she used to be part of, but as soon as they heard it was her calling, they hung up on herโborrowing money was impossible.
Catlin never imagined it would be so hard to meet her own daughter. โThatโs my flesh and blood. How could they stop me from seeing her?โ she thought.
Olivia almost couldnโt hide her irritation when she knew Catlin had failed to borrow any money. โThis useless old woman couldnโt even get a loan from her own daughter!โ
Despite feeling extremely dissatisfied, Olivia put on a pitiful face and said, โSo what am I supposed to do? Just wait to die? Allison said that based on my current health, I should start taking that medicine within a week.โ
A week was the most critical time. Now, Olivia felt so weak that even her voice lacked energy. She really didnโt know if she could get through this.
Catlin said, โBut we canโt ask Stephanie to lend us money, you knowโฆโ She trailed off, struggling to say the following words. She regretted how she had treated Stephanie before; if she hadnโt acted that way, they wouldnโt be in this difficult situation now. She felt like a fool to go to Stephanie today for moneyโhow could Stephanie possibly lend them anything?
Suddenly, Catlin remembered something and turned to Olivia. โLevel with me. Did you ever falsely accuse Stephanie? And what about that car accident?โ
As Catlin brought up the accident, memories of Chris leaving that day flooded back.
Guilt flickered in Oliviaโs eyes. โIt wasnโt me; I didnโt do it,โ she insisted.
โThen why did Chris leave like that before? And why hasnโt he come to see you these days?โ Catlin pressed.
Also, she realized she should call Chris. However, just thinking of Graceโs smug face made her hesitate. But saving Olivia was more important right now. Catlin quickly took out her phone and called Chris.
Seeing Catlin about to call Chris, Olivia immediately panicked. โMom, why are you calling Chris?โ
โBesides Chris, who else can come up with so much money instantly to save you?โ Catlin asked.
โWill Chris still help me?โ Olivia fell silent, finding it hard to breathe. She had been trying to reach him for days, but he hadnโt answered any of her calls. โHe doesnโt want me anymore,โ she thought, despair creeping in. โHe knows how sick I am, yet he still doesnโt answer my calls. Isnโt that like abandoning me?โ
Near the end of the ring, Chris answered the call. โHello,โ he said, his deep voice cold, completely devoid of the respect and politeness he once had.
โOlivia is really sick right now. Why havenโt you visited her?โ Catlin tried to push aside the memory of Chris leaving that day. Without waiting for him to respond, she continued, โWeโve found the medicine for Oliviaโs illness.โ
