Captured

โ€œYes, it is!โ€ Calvin snapped, the first crack in his control showing. โ€œTheir family and ours are enemies, Olivia. Enemies. Do you even understand the implications of what youโ€™re doing?โ€

Then, without waiting for a response, he turned and walked away again.

The room felt colder all of a sudden.

Oliviaโ€™s POV

I blinked. โ€œWhat? Who?โ€

Nora swallowed hard but shook her head. โ€œNoโ€ฆ what is there to hide?โ€

My mind was spinningโ€ฆ โ€œHow did Anitaโ€™s father use a dark spell on the triplets?โ€

My breath hitched.

My eyes shifted slowly to Nora, who leaned against the wall with her arms crossed.

My mind reeled. โ€œHow? Why? I thoughtโ€”โ€

Nora nodded.

I sat up straighter. โ€œWaitโ€“Anita? As in the Anita?โ€

I sat in stunned silence, every part of me trying to absorb what Iโ€™d just heard.

โ€œBut what if Iโ€™m just being weak and stupid?โ€ I asked.

He turned and walked toward the door, but before leaving, he paused, his back still to me.

My silence must have said enough.

I stared at her. โ€œWhatโ€ฆ did you say to him?โ€

โ€œWeโ€™re not directly related,โ€ I said firmly. โ€œYou know that, Calvin.โ€

Tears burned at the back of my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. I stood my ground.

Lolita raised a suspicious brow at her. โ€œIs there something you are not telling us?โ€

Nora shifted beside me, then turned toward the door. โ€œIโ€™ll be back,โ€ she said suddenly.

Nora looked away, clearly uncomfortable. Lolita bit her bottom lip, like she was dying to say something but knew better.

I was stunnedโ€ฆ All of this had happenedโ€ฆ and I hadnโ€™t known?

โ€œI havenโ€™t forgotten,โ€ I whispered. โ€œBut Iโ€™m trying to heal. And theyโ€™re trying too.โ€

I frowned. โ€œWhere are you going?โ€

โ€œNo.โ€ He cut me off, his eyes blazing with anger. โ€œNo excuses, Olivia. This is disgraceful. Sleeping in the bed of the same people who ripped your heart apart? Whose family has done nothing but torment ours?โ€

Lolita stepped closer as she sat beside me.

I narrowed my eyes but let it slideโ€“for now. My head was still spinning from Calvinโ€™s outburst and his unexpected apology.

I sank slowly onto the edge of my bed, my arms folding around myself. My chest ached from the tension, from Calvinโ€™s words, from the ugly truth of it all.

Just then, the door creaked open.

Lolita and I exchanged skeptical glances at Noraโ€™s too-quick answer. Obviously, we donโ€™t believe her.

Calvin stepped back inside, his face unreadable. And right behind himโ€ฆ was Nora.

I tried to stay calm. โ€œItโ€™s not that simple.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t you know?โ€ Lolita cut in, her voice more serious, โ€œShe lost the last pregnancy.โ€

โ€œWhatever you think youโ€™re doing,โ€ he said through gritted teeth, โ€œyou need to stop. Now.โ€

Calvin stared at me like Iโ€™d just confessed to committing treason.

He scoffed, stepping forward. โ€œAnd what about the fact that weโ€™re related?โ€

Her words sat heavy in my chest.

He glanced at the window, then back at me. โ€œI still donโ€™t accept them. I donโ€™t know if I ever fully will. But I shouldnโ€™t have said what I said like that. That wasโ€ฆ wrong of me.โ€

I sat frozen, my heart still racing.

Nora cleared her throat and changed the subject, almost too quickly. โ€œAnywayโ€ฆ guess whoโ€™s in your brotherโ€™s dungeon.โ€

She shifted on her feet, her arms still folded, but I could see her throat bob as she swallowed hard.

Was I doing the right thing?

And then she walked out tooโ€“leaving me with Lolita.

โ€œThereโ€™s nothing to hide,โ€ she repeated, a little too calmly.

She gave me a look that said she didnโ€™t believe that for a second.

I hesitated before nodding. โ€œYeahโ€ฆ yeah, Iโ€™m fine.โ€

I swallowed hard, then turned to her. โ€œLolitaโ€ฆ do you think Calvinโ€™s right? That Iโ€™m making a mistake?โ€

Calvin shook his head slowly, his eyes filled with disappointment. โ€œOur parents would be ashamed of you.โ€

I looked up at her, my eyes burning. โ€œThen why canโ€™t Calvin?โ€

My breath caught.

Then he walked out.

She simply gave me a small frown. โ€œIโ€™m coming.โ€

Lolita leaned in slightly, her tone low. โ€œAnita.โ€

I lifted my chin, already bracing for the inevitable wave of judgment. โ€œCalvin-โ€

Nora shrugged. โ€œWe have no ideaโ€ฆ youโ€™ll have to ask them yourself.โ€

She shrugged. โ€œNothing much.โ€

I turned.

โ€œIt got worse,โ€ Lolita went on. โ€œWe donโ€™t know all the details, but from what weโ€™ve heard, her father used a dark spell on the tripletsโ€ฆ we donโ€™t know how.โ€

โ€œYou might think this is love,โ€ he said, voice colder now, โ€œbut this is just obsession.โ€

His jaw was clenched so tightly I thought it might crack. His hands fisted at his sides, and I could practically feel the rage radiating off him. But to his credit, he didnโ€™t yell. Not yet. His voice, when it came, was lowโ€ฆ controlled.

She tilted her head, letting the question settle before answering. โ€œI thinkโ€ฆ love doesnโ€™t come with a right or wrong, Olivia. It just is.โ€

Calvin cleared his throat, his gaze lowering briefly to the floor before finding mine again. โ€œIโ€ฆ Iโ€™m sorry,โ€ he said quietly. โ€œIf my words earlier hurt you, that wasnโ€™t my intention.โ€

Lolita sighed. โ€œBecause they havenโ€™t shown him. Not yet. Heโ€™s still stuck in the version of them who hurt you. Thatโ€™s all he knows. But youโ€ฆ youโ€™ve seen a different side. Youโ€™ve seen them fight for you, cry for you. He hasnโ€™t. So I understand where heโ€™s coming from too.โ€

That hit deeper than I wanted to admit.

โ€œHe said Iโ€™m letting them off too easily,โ€ I whispered. โ€œThat Iโ€™m forgetting what they did.โ€

I looked down at my hands.

โ€œI do,โ€ I said quietly, folding my arms. โ€œBut that doesnโ€™t make what I feel any less real.โ€

โ€œAnd now,โ€ Lolita said, looking at me with concern, โ€œsheโ€™s here. We donโ€™t know how, but somehow, Alpha Calvin sent his men after her. Sheโ€™s locked in the dungeon.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re not weak or stupid,โ€ she said firmly. โ€œYouโ€™re strong enough to let yourself feel. Thatโ€™s more than most people can do.โ€ She touched my arm, comforting me. โ€œThe tripletsโ€ฆ they love you. I see it, clear as day.โ€

Calvinโ€™s expression shifted. His voice dropped, softer now. โ€œYouโ€™re going to forget how they rejected you? Humiliated you? Tore you apart? Is that it?โ€

โ€œShe miscarried?โ€ I asked, stunned.

โ€œThat doesnโ€™t make it right,โ€ he fired back. โ€œSo what? Youโ€™re just going to forget everything they did to you?โ€

I blinked.

โ€œShe did,โ€ Lolita confirmed. โ€œAnd after that, everything crumbled. The tripletsโ€“especially Lennoxโ€“banished her and her mother from the pack.โ€

Lolita was still processing when Nora added, โ€œHer mother couldnโ€™t take the disgrace. She killed herself not long after.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re not forgetting,โ€ Lolita said gently. โ€œYouโ€™re choosing to forgive. Thereโ€™s a difference.โ€

I stiffened. โ€œWhat?โ€

Too controlled.

That oneโ€ฆ that one shattered something inside me.

โ€œYou okay?โ€ she asked softly.

โ€œAlpha Lennox ordered his execution,โ€ she said. โ€œHe was crucified, as a warning to any pack members who tried to use dark magic.โ€

โ€œOh my goddessโ€ฆโ€ I whispered.
