Captured
โYes, it is!โ Calvin snapped, the first crack in his control showing. โTheir family and ours are enemies, Olivia. Enemies. Do you even understand the implications of what youโre doing?โ
Then, without waiting for a response, he turned and walked away again.
The room felt colder all of a sudden.
Oliviaโs POV
I blinked. โWhat? Who?โ
Nora swallowed hard but shook her head. โNoโฆ what is there to hide?โ
My mind was spinningโฆ โHow did Anitaโs father use a dark spell on the triplets?โ
My breath hitched.
My eyes shifted slowly to Nora, who leaned against the wall with her arms crossed.
My mind reeled. โHow? Why? I thoughtโโ
Nora nodded.
I sat up straighter. โWaitโAnita? As in the Anita?โ
I sat in stunned silence, every part of me trying to absorb what Iโd just heard.
โBut what if Iโm just being weak and stupid?โ I asked.
He turned and walked toward the door, but before leaving, he paused, his back still to me.
My silence must have said enough.
I stared at her. โWhatโฆ did you say to him?โ
โWeโre not directly related,โ I said firmly. โYou know that, Calvin.โ
Tears burned at the back of my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. I stood my ground.
Lolita raised a suspicious brow at her. โIs there something you are not telling us?โ
Nora shifted beside me, then turned toward the door. โIโll be back,โ she said suddenly.
Nora looked away, clearly uncomfortable. Lolita bit her bottom lip, like she was dying to say something but knew better.
I was stunnedโฆ All of this had happenedโฆ and I hadnโt known?
โI havenโt forgotten,โ I whispered. โBut Iโm trying to heal. And theyโre trying too.โ
I frowned. โWhere are you going?โ
โNo.โ He cut me off, his eyes blazing with anger. โNo excuses, Olivia. This is disgraceful. Sleeping in the bed of the same people who ripped your heart apart? Whose family has done nothing but torment ours?โ
Lolita stepped closer as she sat beside me.
I narrowed my eyes but let it slideโfor now. My head was still spinning from Calvinโs outburst and his unexpected apology.
I sank slowly onto the edge of my bed, my arms folding around myself. My chest ached from the tension, from Calvinโs words, from the ugly truth of it all.
Just then, the door creaked open.
Lolita and I exchanged skeptical glances at Noraโs too-quick answer. Obviously, we donโt believe her.
Calvin stepped back inside, his face unreadable. And right behind himโฆ was Nora.
I tried to stay calm. โItโs not that simple.โ
โDonโt you know?โ Lolita cut in, her voice more serious, โShe lost the last pregnancy.โ
โWhatever you think youโre doing,โ he said through gritted teeth, โyou need to stop. Now.โ
Calvin stared at me like Iโd just confessed to committing treason.
He scoffed, stepping forward. โAnd what about the fact that weโre related?โ
Her words sat heavy in my chest.
He glanced at the window, then back at me. โI still donโt accept them. I donโt know if I ever fully will. But I shouldnโt have said what I said like that. That wasโฆ wrong of me.โ
I sat frozen, my heart still racing.
Nora cleared her throat and changed the subject, almost too quickly. โAnywayโฆ guess whoโs in your brotherโs dungeon.โ
She shifted on her feet, her arms still folded, but I could see her throat bob as she swallowed hard.
Was I doing the right thing?
And then she walked out tooโleaving me with Lolita.
โThereโs nothing to hide,โ she repeated, a little too calmly.
She gave me a look that said she didnโt believe that for a second.
I hesitated before nodding. โYeahโฆ yeah, Iโm fine.โ
I swallowed hard, then turned to her. โLolitaโฆ do you think Calvinโs right? That Iโm making a mistake?โ
Calvin shook his head slowly, his eyes filled with disappointment. โOur parents would be ashamed of you.โ
I looked up at her, my eyes burning. โThen why canโt Calvin?โ
My breath caught.
Then he walked out.
She simply gave me a small frown. โIโm coming.โ
Lolita leaned in slightly, her tone low. โAnita.โ
I lifted my chin, already bracing for the inevitable wave of judgment. โCalvin-โ
Nora shrugged. โWe have no ideaโฆ youโll have to ask them yourself.โ
She shrugged. โNothing much.โ
I turned.
โIt got worse,โ Lolita went on. โWe donโt know all the details, but from what weโve heard, her father used a dark spell on the tripletsโฆ we donโt know how.โ
โYou might think this is love,โ he said, voice colder now, โbut this is just obsession.โ
His jaw was clenched so tightly I thought it might crack. His hands fisted at his sides, and I could practically feel the rage radiating off him. But to his credit, he didnโt yell. Not yet. His voice, when it came, was lowโฆ controlled.
She tilted her head, letting the question settle before answering. โI thinkโฆ love doesnโt come with a right or wrong, Olivia. It just is.โ
Calvin cleared his throat, his gaze lowering briefly to the floor before finding mine again. โIโฆ Iโm sorry,โ he said quietly. โIf my words earlier hurt you, that wasnโt my intention.โ
Lolita sighed. โBecause they havenโt shown him. Not yet. Heโs still stuck in the version of them who hurt you. Thatโs all he knows. But youโฆ youโve seen a different side. Youโve seen them fight for you, cry for you. He hasnโt. So I understand where heโs coming from too.โ
That hit deeper than I wanted to admit.
โHe said Iโm letting them off too easily,โ I whispered. โThat Iโm forgetting what they did.โ
I looked down at my hands.
โI do,โ I said quietly, folding my arms. โBut that doesnโt make what I feel any less real.โ
โAnd now,โ Lolita said, looking at me with concern, โsheโs here. We donโt know how, but somehow, Alpha Calvin sent his men after her. Sheโs locked in the dungeon.โ
โYouโre not weak or stupid,โ she said firmly. โYouโre strong enough to let yourself feel. Thatโs more than most people can do.โ She touched my arm, comforting me. โThe tripletsโฆ they love you. I see it, clear as day.โ
Calvinโs expression shifted. His voice dropped, softer now. โYouโre going to forget how they rejected you? Humiliated you? Tore you apart? Is that it?โ
โShe miscarried?โ I asked, stunned.
โThat doesnโt make it right,โ he fired back. โSo what? Youโre just going to forget everything they did to you?โ
I blinked.
โShe did,โ Lolita confirmed. โAnd after that, everything crumbled. The tripletsโespecially Lennoxโbanished her and her mother from the pack.โ
Lolita was still processing when Nora added, โHer mother couldnโt take the disgrace. She killed herself not long after.โ
โYouโre not forgetting,โ Lolita said gently. โYouโre choosing to forgive. Thereโs a difference.โ
I stiffened. โWhat?โ
Too controlled.
That oneโฆ that one shattered something inside me.
โYou okay?โ she asked softly.
โAlpha Lennox ordered his execution,โ she said. โHe was crucified, as a warning to any pack members who tried to use dark magic.โ
โOh my goddessโฆโ I whispered.
