Confession

Calvin stepped back like Iโ€™d slapped him. His jaw clenched so tightly I could hear the grind of his teeth.

I shook my head, but heโ€”

โ€œDo you even hear yourself?โ€ he hissed. โ€œYouโ€™re making excuses for monsters whoโ€”

โ€”broke you. Who humiliated you. And now you canโ€™t let goโ€”not because of loveโ€”but because you donโ€™t know who you are without them!โ€

โ€œI-โ€ I tried.

No. I disappeared. She was livid.

โ€œI didnโ€™t plan it,โ€ I whispered, my voice barely audible. โ€œIt justโ€ฆ happened. I was caught in the moment. My wolfโ€”โ€

He turned around slowly, his brows drawn together in confusion.

โ€œI love them,โ€ I whispered, my voice trembling. โ€œYouโ€™re wrong.โ€

โ€œDid you fucking let them touch you?!โ€ he roared again, louder this timeโ€ฆ so loud I swore the walls shook with it.

Here it was.

โ€œIt wasnโ€™t a choice,โ€ I whispered.

"...know that, Calvin: The bond chooses. The moon chooses.โ€

โ€œGoddess,โ€ he whispered, backing away like Iโ€™d just confessed to something unspeakable. โ€œNoโ€ฆโ€

That broke me.

Confession

โ€œHow can this be possible?!โ€ he exploded, his voice trembling with disbelief. โ€œYou are related, Olivia! Related!โ€

His face paled. He looked like the ground beneath him had disappeared.

His words echoed off the walls, filled with disgust, confusion, and pain.

He turned around slowly, his expression unreadableโ€”but his eyesโ€ฆ his eyes were burning with anger.

But the words wouldnโ€™t come.

โ€œCouldโ€™ve fooled me!โ€ he spat.

โ€œโ€ฆWhat?โ€ he whispered.

Because I didnโ€™t know what to say.

Oliviaโ€™s POV

I flinched, the shame and pain in his voice slicing through me like a knife.

A maid screamed from the hallway and ran off.

His fist slammed down on the table with such force, the wood cracked and splintered, a jagged line cutting straight through the center.

His mouth openedโ€ฆ but no words came.

Whโ€”

โ€œNo!โ€ he cut me off, stepping closer. โ€œYouโ€™re mistaking familiarity for love. You think just because they smiled at you when you were little and held your hand, that means theyโ€™re yours forever?โ€

โ€œThey hurt you, Olivia.โ€

I shut my eyes, gripping the edge of the table to steady myself. My heart thundered. My head spun.

โ€œYou donโ€™t love them,โ€ he said coldly. โ€œYouโ€™re clinging to them.โ€

I took a shaky step back, my lips trembling, my eyes wide. This was a different Calvin.

I opened my mouthโ€ฆ but no sound came out.

โ€œI donโ€™t just love them, Calvinโ€ฆโ€ I said softly.

Confession

The part I had tried so hard to avoid.

Because saying yes would be a lie.

He turned his back to me, dragging his hands through his hair. โ€œHow can you love them when our families have hated each other for decades? We lost a life because of them!โ€

And saying no would break him.

Like he hadnโ€™t heard me.

My heart sank. โ€œIโ€™m not defending them, Calvin.โ€

He took a step forward, and I saw itโ€”the desperation behind his rage. The helplessness of a brother watching someone he loved walk into what he believed was a fire.

โ€œI know!โ€ I yelled. โ€œI know what they did. I remember every detail. And I still love them. Thatโ€™s what makes this a curse.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re rejecting them, right?โ€ he asked, his voice tight. โ€œOlivia, tell me youโ€™re going to reject them.โ€

I took a shaky breath.

โ€œYouโ€™re chasing ghosts, Olivia. Youโ€™re holding onto the past so tightly, youโ€™re blind to the damage itโ€™s doing. Youโ€™re trying to rebuild something that was never whole to begin with!โ€

And saying it out loud would only anger him more.

โ€œCalvin, pleaseโ€”โ€

Or couldnโ€™t believe he had.

โ€œYou think this is normal? You think this makes sense?โ€ he demanded, his hands shaking. โ€œOur families are tied by blood. Hate. Loss. And youโ€™re telling me the Moon Goddess thought thisโ€”themโ€”was your fate?โ€

The silence that followed was the loudest thing Iโ€™d ever heard.

So I stood there in silence, trembling.

Confession

โ€œI do!โ€ I cried. โ€œI wish I didnโ€™t, Calvin. Goddess knows I wish I didnโ€™t. I wish I could wake up one day and feel nothing for them. I wish I could rip them out of my soul and throw them into the sea. But I canโ€™t. Iโ€™ve tried. And it doesnโ€™t work. Because the truth isโ€ฆ I love them.โ€

The moment those words left his mouth, my wolf let out a sharp, furious growl inside me, clawing at my chest like she wanted to tear free.

Calvin scoffed bitterly.

He stared at me like I had a hand in it.

My frown deepened, but I stayed silent.

I swallowed hard.

He turned away, gripping the edge of the broken table, breathing through gritted teeth like he was trying not to explode again.

But he wasnโ€™t finished.

โ€œDonโ€™t,โ€ he snapped, shaking his head violently. โ€œDonโ€™t blame your wolf, Olivia. Sheโ€™s not stupid. Youโ€™re the stupid one.โ€

Then, without turning to face me, he asked quietly, โ€œDo you love them?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m their mate.โ€

I nodded slowly. โ€œThe bondโ€ฆ itโ€™s real. Iโ€™ve felt it since the day of my welcoming party. They are my second chance mates.โ€

โ€œCalvin, stop-โ€

Then slowly, his voice hoarse, he asked, โ€œโ€ฆSo what now?โ€

But because I did.

Calvin stared at me.

That was enough for him.

โ€œYou think you love them because you grew up around them. Because they were kind to you once. Because you were little and stupid and didnโ€™t know what love was. Youโ€™re not in love, Oliviaโ€“youโ€™re obsessed.โ€

Confession

His face twisted. โ€œNo. No, you donโ€™t-โ€

โ€œI didnโ€™t choose it,โ€ I said, shaking my head, my throat tightening with emotion. โ€œI didnโ€™t ask for this.โ€

And then his face twisted into something between grief and horror.

The question hung in the air like smoke.

Calvinโ€™s chest rose and fell like a beast barely holding onto its leash. His eyes werenโ€™t just angryโ€”they were enraged.

โ€œYou let them touch youโ€ฆโ€ he spat, as if the very thought of it was driving him insane. โ€œAfter everything they didโ€ฆ after what they made you sufferโ€ฆโ€

โ€œI knowโ€ฆโ€ I whispered, my voice trembling. โ€œGoddess, Calvin, I know. Iโ€™ve asked myself that same question a hundred times.โ€

So I did the only thing I could.

Not because I didnโ€™t know the answer.
