โFuck youโฆโ
โAnd now,โ Damien continued slowly, โheโs got her locked in his cell. He says heโs finally going to fulfill that promise. Butโฆโ
The moment we stepped into the living room, Lennox barked, his voice sharp and filled with anger.
โHe told me he made a vow on her grave. That one day, heโd kill the daughter of the woman who destroyed their family. Which is Olivia.โ
My heart sank.
And this time, no one was leaving this room until every secret was dragged out into the light.
โSoโฆ Rebeccaโs head,โ I said, piecing the puzzle together.
โBut?โ Levi snapped, his eyes blazing with anger. โHe doesnโt want to kill her anymore.โ
โMother! Father! Damien!โ he roared, loud enough to shake the walls. โGet in hereโNOW!โ
โHow dare you!โ I spat in rage. My wolf growled angrily inside me.
None of us moved. The pain in the room was thick.
My eyes widened slightly.
His chest was heaving, his fists clenched, and his eyes were glowing with rage.
โI didnโt know who Olivia was when I first saw her at that auction. I bought her because she looked so much like SofiaโI couldnโt stand the thought of some bastard having her. The plan was simple at first: keep her as bait, use her to draw Sofia out. But then I found out she was your mate. And thatโs when everything changed. I realized I could use her for my own revenge on you threeโฆโ He paused to drag in a breath. โI thought you three betrayed meโtold Sofia I couldnโt father a childโso I swore Iโd make you feel my pain. Iโd make Olivia abandon you so youโd know what betrayal felt like.โ
A moment of silence hung in the air before he continued. โIt was after Olivia left to stay with Gabriel that your fatherโฆ my brother, told me who Olivia really was.โ
Lennox growled at him. โYou could have informed usโฆ we could have waged war on them and easily saved Olivia, but you didnโt.โ
โThey cut it off, thinking it was Oliviaโs dead body. And thenโฆ Gabriel had it delivered to your border for you three to find.โ
Damien met his eyes. โHe told me the truthโฆ or at least, his version of it: that Oliviaโs real mother was the one who murdered his mother.โ
He swallowed hard. โRebecca was like a sister to me.โ
โHeโs confused. Heโs tormented, stuck between love and loyalty,โ Damien added. โHe knows killing her would honor his sister and satisfy the pack that still cries for revenge. But keeping her aliveโฆ would betray them all.โ
โHeโs fallen in love with her.โ
โHer neck had been sliced clean through. A knife. No bite. No mark. Just a blade.โ He looked away. โI didnโt know what to feel. I hadnโt seen her in years. She vanished, and now she was justโฆ gone.โ
Damien nodded once. โI know. Iโm sorry for that.โ
He looked at us sharply.
Damien didnโt move. He just looked at herโhis expression tight with guilt, pain flickering in his eyes. Slowly, gently, he took her hands and pulled them off his shirt. โAfter Gabriel told me everything,โ he continued, โI told him I needed to go. That Iโd return. I warned him not to touch Olivia, not to make a single move until I came back.โ
We looked back at Damien.
Just then our eyes fell on Sofia, who had been silently stunned. Her eyes were wide open. Damien looked at her with concern flashing in his eyes before he turned away and looked back at us. โWhile I was still with Gabriel, my men reached out to me and informed me a dead body was seen at my pack territory. And they said the body looked like Rebeccaโฆ Lady Sofiaโs friend.โ
Her eyes were wild, filled with fear and pain, and her lips trembled as if the words themselves were hurting her. โShe canโt be deadโฆ She canโtโฆโ
โI told Gabriel the plan,โ Damien cut in firmly. โTold him Iโd bring him a dead body that looks just like Olivia. That it would be enough to satisfy his sisterโs rage, enough to calm the cries of the pack.โ
โSo I made a choice.โ
โGabrielโs sister was furious. She demanded the dead bodyโs head still be chopped. She wanted you three to see her in a miserable state.โ
Lennox scoffed in anger. โI believe now you know we didnโt do it.โ
His jaw clenched slightly. โThat was when Gabriel reached out to me.โ
Louisโs POV
โIโm sorry,โ he said softly.
Damien nodded grimly.
There was a brief silenceโone that carried both sorrow and anger.
He looked at each of us slowly, almost as if he was weighing our reactions. โWhen I got to my packโฆ they had already brought the body in.โ
My chest tightened.
I stared at him, the pieces finally fitting into place. My voice came out low, sharp.
We needed answers.
He continued. โThrough what your father said, he made me realize we were related to Olivia, and he thinks she is the special one.โ Damien shifted slightly, then exhaledโhis voice calm. โAfter your father told me who she really was, everything changed.โ
My glare deepened. My wolf howled, rattling my bones, but I forced myself to stand still and listen.
Damien nodded. โI could have done thatโฆ but her enemies were too much.โ
โYou changed Oliviaโs face with Rebeccaโs and made us believe she was dead! You bastard!โ I spat with pain and anger. It hurt so much that our favorite uncle could stab us this way. โYou knew who Olivia was all this while, didnโt you? Speak! Fucking speak!โ
I yelled.
โOliviaโฆโ he said her name softly. โSheโs the daughter of the family we were sworn enemies with, the very bloodline our kind was taught to despise.โ
Damien pulled my hand away from his collar and arranged his shirt before darting his eyes between me and my brothers. โIโll go straight to the point without cutting corners,โ he said casually.
โBut that,โ he went on, โwasnโt what concerned me. What mattered more was the fact that our relatives wanted her dead. And Iโฆโ He hesitated. โI couldnโt let that happen.โ
We stared at him, frowning.
My blood turned to ice. My wolf growled with jealousy.
But Damien didnโt flinch; he didnโt even look startledโlike heโd been waiting for this confrontation all along.
He inhaled deeply, as if finding the courage to say what he did. โI used the body. I had one of my witchesโone of the most powerful illusionistsโperform a spell, a trade of appearance. We made Rebecca look like Olivia.โ
Damien ran a hand through his hair and exhaled, his voice cracking slightly now.
Levi and I stood beside him, silent, but equally seething. We knew exactly what this was about.
โThatโs when the thought came to me,โ Damien said at last. โIf Olivia stayed with Gabriel, sheโd die. His sisterโs demand for her head wouldnโt disappear just because he fell in love. The pack still wanted revenge.โ
โAnd he agreed?โ Lennox snapped.
Of course.
โSoโฆ you killed Rebecca?โ
Sofia collapsed onto the floor, sobbing loudly.
His eyes met mine again, conflicted and heavy. โSo he asked me: What do I do?โ
It all made twisted, painful sense now.
A cold shiver ran down my spine.
He drew in a long breath. โSo I returned to Gabrielโs pack, took Olivia from the cell, and Gabriel placed Rebeccaโs dead body thereโฆ made it look like Olivia had taken her own life by slitting her throat.โ
My brows furrowed. โWhat choice?โ
I shot him a glare that could have killed him where he stood. He looked down, then straightened, meeting our eyes again.
Footsteps echoed on the stairs. Damien appeared first. I didnโt waste a secondโI attacked him and smashed my fist into his face.
Damien nodded. โHe did. He was torn, but he agreed.โ
He paused, his voice tight. โIt was really Rebecca.โ
My brothers and I turned and glared at our father. His turn was coming.
Our parents, who had just entered, froze in shock, but before Damien could even stumble back from the blow, I grabbed him by the collar, yanked him forward, and snarled right into his face.
โNo!โ Sofia cried out, her voice raw with disbelief, as she rushed at Damien. She grabbed him by the collar, her hands trembling. โTell me youโre lyingโฆ Tell me Rebecca isnโt dead!โ
Levi groaned. โKeep your fucking sorry to yourself and keep talking.โ
Damienโs eyes darkened slightly, but he shook his head. โI didnโt. Someone else did.โ
My wolf growled.
โWhat did he want?โ Lennox growled.
We blinked.
