The Dream
Oliviaโs POV
I was asked to come downstairs for lunch. It had only been a full twenty-four hours since I arrived here. So far, things had been okay, but I couldnโt help wondering about the hostility from Gabrielโs sister. It was obviousโI wasnโt welcome here. And I also couldnโt stop thinking about what Alpha Gabriel and his sister were discussing yesterday, or what Gabriel meant when he said she should give him some time.
I wanted to brush it offโmaybe it was just their personal family issuesโbut for some strange reason, I couldnโt let it go.
As I reached the dining table, I noticed Gabriel hadnโt arrived yet, but Abigail was already seated. The air was thick, heavy with tension as I quietly pulled out a chair.
โHi,โ I greeted, forcing my voice to sound friendly.
She didnโt respond. Not even a glance.
I sat across from her and stared openly. If she had a problem, then she needed to spit it out already. I kept looking at her, refusing to look away, until I finally asked, โDo you have a problem with me?โ
Abigail let out a short, bitter scoff. Her eyes were cold as she looked at me.
โYou have no idea how much I dislike you,โ she said flatly.
I blinked, but kept my voice steady. โIs it because you know about me?โ
She didnโt answer, but I kept going.
โYou know I was once mated to the Alphas of the Full Moon Pack,โ I said softly. โAnd maybe thatโs why you donโt want me here. Maybe you donโt want someone like me near your brother.โ
Her lips parted, like she wanted to say something, but before she could speak, Gabriel walked in.
He didnโt say a word. He didnโt have to.
He looked straight at his sister with a hard glare, one that clearly said, Donโt say another word.
Abigail immediately closed her mouth and turned her eyes away.
The tension in the room became thick and heavy. Gabriel walked toward the head of the table and sat down calmly, but the sharpness in his gaze hadnโt faded.
I glanced between them, knowing I was right. Something was off. Something awkward hung between us all, and it had everything to do with me.
We ate in tense silence, the clinking of cutlery the only sound. My stomach twisted with every bite I forced down. Abigail refused to look at either of us. Gabriel didnโt stop glancing her way.
Then, finally, he turned to me.
โThereโs a festival tonight,โ he said. โTen of our warriors are passing out. Weโre holding a celebration in their honor.โ
He paused, and his gaze softened.
โWill you be my date for the evening?โ
I smiled gently and nodded. โIโd be honored to,โ I replied.
A big smile spread across Gabrielโs face before he returned to his food.
Suddenly, Abigail dropped her utensil loudly onto her plate, making both Gabriel and I turn our attention to her. She glared at me before wheeling herself away. I watched her until she was out of sight before I turned to Gabriel.
โIs there something I should know?โ I asked. Deep down I felt like there was something I needed to know, something Gabriel was keeping away from me.
Gabriel furrowed his brows, clearly caught off guard by my question.
โThereโs nothing you need to worry about,โ he said softly, setting his fork down and giving me his full attention. โAs for Abigailโฆ sheโll come around eventually.โ
I looked at him, searching his face for more.
โSheโs only acting like this because she found out you were once mated to the triplets from the Full Moon Pack,โ he continued. โSheโs not angry at you, Olivia. Sheโs worried for me. She thinks they might come after me, that theyโll see this as a challenge and start a war.โ
He gave a small shrug and added, โSheโs just protective.โ
I nodded slowly. โI understand.โ
And I didโhis excuse made sense. A protective sibling. I would have felt the same if I were in her shoes.
But stillโฆ something didnโt feel right.
Deep down, I felt it.
That same little whisper in my chest that had been bothering me since I got here. Something about yesterdayโs conversation, the look on Abigailโs face, the words Gabriel hadnโt said.
What is he not telling me?
I forced a small smile and lowered my eyes back to my plate. โOkay,โ I said quietly.
Gabriel smiled warmly, clearly relieved. But the worry in me remained.
After the meal, Gabriel excused himself to attend to some duties while I went back to my room. Feeling bored, I lay on the bed and my thoughts drifted to the triplets. I thought of what they might be doing nowโhave they marked Anita yet? Of course, they should, at least to save the lives of their pups.
My chest tightened painfully at the thought.
Theyโre not yours anymore, I reminded myself. That was your decision.
But then, my wolf spoke. โYou still love them,โ she whispered. โEven without the mate bond.โ
I didnโt answer, because she was right.
Even without the pull of the bond, even after everything, I still loved them.
I had loved them before the bond ever existed.
They were my first everythingโmy first love, my first heartbreak, my first home.
They were the first ones who made me feel what it meant to be cherished, to be protected, to be seen, to be adored.
They taught me what love was: real love, messy, wild, painfulโbut beautiful.
They pampered me, cared for me, made me feel like I was the only girl in their world.
But that was long agoโฆ
Back when I was still just a teenage girl with stars in her eyes, believing that love was enough to fix anything.
I closed my eyes, a tear slipping down my cheek.
I didnโt realize when I finally drifted off to sleep. One minute I was lying on the bed, lost in thoughts of the past, the next, everything around me faded.
Then I heard itโa soft voice, gentle but firm.
โWake up.โ
My eyes fluttered open.
And I froze.
Standing at the edge of the bed was her.
The same woman from the rooftop, the one who looked exactly like me.
Same hair. Same eyes. Same face.
I slowly sat up, heart pounding. โYouโฆ What are you doing here?โ
She tilted her head and gave a small, tired smile. โThis is a dream, Olivia.โ
I blinked, trying to understand.
โA dream?โ I repeated.
She nodded. โBut it doesnโt mean it isnโt real.โ
I stared at her, confused. But before I could say anything more, her expression turned serious.
โWhy are you so stubborn?โ she asked, stepping closer. โWhy didnโt you listen to me?โ
I opened my mouth, but no words came out.
โI told you not to leave the Full Moon Pack,โ she said, her voice sharp with disappointment. โI warned you.โ
I swallowed hard. โWho are you?โ I asked, finally finding my voice.
But she didnโt answer. Her lips parted slightly, like she wanted to speak, then closed again.
โEven coming to you like this, Iโm breaking the rules,โ she muttered. โIโm not supposed to interfere.โ
I furrowed my brows. โRules? What are you talking about?โ
She looked me straight in the eyes.
โYou made a choice,โ she said calmly. โLeaving the Full Moon Pack will come with punishment.โ
โPunishment? What are you talking about?โ I asked, feeling cold all of a sudden.
She stepped back. โYouโll see soon enough. Be ready.โ
And just like that, I shot up from the bed, gasping.
My heart was racing. My hands were shaking.
The room was dark now. The sun had already set. The only light came from the small lamp beside the bed.
I looked around, but no one was there.
Just me.
Alone.
But that dreamโฆ it felt too real to ignore.
What did she mean by punishment?
And who was she?
My chest tightened as fear slowly crept in.
