Leviโ€™s POV

My eyes were fixed on the wall clock as the second hand ticked past 7 PM. Right on time. I emptied the glass of whiskey in my hand; the burn did nothing to calm the storm raging inside me. She was in heat now.

Wherever Olivia was, she was burning. My wolf knew it, felt it. He growled and thrashed inside me, pacing, snarling. He wanted her, needed herโ€”not just for the sake of their bond, but to ease her pain. And still, I stayed rooted in my chair.

The air around me was thick with the scent of heat. Almost every she-wolf in the mansion had gone into heat tonight, and those without mates were locked away in the safe rooms down the hall. But even with the air soaked in arousal and pheromones, my wolf didnโ€™t care. None of them mattered. The only scent I wanted, the only one I craved, was Oliviaโ€™sโ€”that sweet blend of nutmeg and honey that used to make my wolf go still and greedy. I was desperately trying to find even the faintest trace of it in the air, but nothing. Not even a whisper of her.

โ€œFucking hell,โ€ Lennox muttered, slamming his glass down on the table and standing. He ran a hand through his hair, pacing the room like a caged animal. โ€œSheโ€™s out there. Alone. In heat. And weโ€™re just hereโ€”waiting.โ€

Louis sat on the couch, his eyes glassy with worry, fingers clenching around his glass. He hadnโ€™t said much, but I could feel the storm building inside him. When he finally spoke, his voice cracked. โ€œWhat if he touches her?โ€ Louis whispered. โ€œWhat if she begs him because the heat is too much, and she canโ€™t help it?โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ I growled, standing. โ€œDonโ€™t say that.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not saying it because I want to,โ€ Louis snapped. โ€œIโ€™m saying it because itโ€™s possible. Sheโ€™s strong, but heatโ€ฆ it takes over. And weโ€™re not there to protect her.โ€

Lennox slammed his fist into the wall, cracking the plaster. โ€œWe shouldโ€™ve found her already. How the hell did this even happen? How did someone just take her like that?โ€

None of us had an answer. The silence after that was heavy, painful. We each poured another drink, but it didnโ€™t help. We were suffering, and we all knew it.

Then the door creaked open, and Anita stepped inside. The scent hit us immediatelyโ€”strong, rich, unmistakably in heat. Her cheeks flushed, her eyes glassy, pupils wide. Her breathing was shallow, chest rising and falling quickly. Her scent wrapped around the room like smoke, seductive and overwhelming. Any other time, it might have stirred something primal in us. But not tonight. Not with Olivia missing.

โ€œIโ€ฆ I canโ€™t stay in the safe wing,โ€ Anita said softly, taking a few steps into the room. Her voice shook; her hands already reached up to the straps of her dress. โ€œIโ€™m in heat.โ€

Lennox didnโ€™t even look at her. โ€œWeโ€™re not in the mood.โ€

She hesitated, lips parting, but her fingers still slid the thin straps off her shoulders, letting the dress slip down her arms. โ€œYou can have me,โ€ she said breathlessly, desperation lacing her words. โ€œAll of you. You always said I belonged to you. I wear your marks. You made me your concubine.โ€

I turned my head sharply, my jaw clenched. โ€œPut your dress back on.โ€

She blinked, confused. โ€œBut you marked me. Iโ€™m yours.โ€

โ€œNot tonight,โ€ I said coldly. โ€œNot when Olivia is missing.โ€

Louis stood, his voice hoarse but firm. โ€œWe donโ€™t want you, Anita.โ€

She gaped at us, visibly shakingโ€”whether from heat or rejection, I couldnโ€™t tell. โ€œBut Iโ€™m in heat. Iโ€™m in pain. I need you. You marked meโ€”claimed me. Youโ€™re supposed to help me through this!โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ I said, stepping back from her. โ€œNot anymore. I canโ€™t touch you. Not when the only woman I want is out there, suffering. Not when my mate is missing.โ€

She looked between us, hurt blooming across her face. โ€œYou would leave me like this?โ€ she whispered.

Lennox finally turned to her, his expression hard. โ€œYou think we care about your heat when our mate could be dying? When another man could be touching what belongs to us?โ€

Anitaโ€™s frown deepened. โ€œWhat the hell!โ€ she spat, her whole body trembling. โ€œWhen did the three of you start caring about Olivia? I thought you hated her!โ€ she snapped angrily.

I frowned but didnโ€™t say a word. Anita quickly took off her dress, leaving her naked before us. I looked away, feeling guilty; just seeing her naked body felt like I was cheating on Olivia.

Before I could process what was happening, Anita moved to Lennox and wrapped her arms around his neck, trying to kiss him. But Lennox pushed her away so forcefully that she landed on her ass on the tiled floor. โ€œI told you no!โ€ he growled, the voice of his wolf mixing with his own, making it sound terrifying.

Anita gasped in pain but pushed herself up. She moved toward Louis, but before she could get close, Louis stopped her with a raised hand. โ€œDonโ€™t come near me, Anitaโ€ฆ Iโ€™m not myselfโ€ฆ just leave,โ€ he warned. A warning Anita listened to.

Finally, she turned to me, her eyes brimming with tears. I felt a tiny bit of pity for herโ€”she was in heat, and I knew exactly what she was going through. So I decided to help her.

โ€œAnita,โ€ I said. โ€œWe understand. Youโ€™re in heat. You need relief. Thatโ€™s nature. We get it.โ€

She looked up at me with wide, teary eyes, like she was clinging to my voice, clinging to hope. But I wasnโ€™t done.

โ€œAnd thatโ€™s whyโ€ฆ Iโ€™m giving you permission,โ€ I said. โ€œYouโ€™re free to go. You can find another male, any male. Let him help you.โ€

She stared at me like Iโ€™d slapped her. โ€œWhat?โ€

Louis nodded in agreement, his frown deepening. โ€œHeโ€™s right. Go find someone who wants you. Someone who can take care of you tonight.โ€

โ€œAnyone but us,โ€ Lennox added harshly. โ€œWeโ€™re not touching you.โ€

Anitaโ€™s breath hitched. โ€œYouโ€™re serious?โ€

I nodded. โ€œWe are.โ€
