Lennoxโ€™s POV

For once, I wished Gabriel were here, not just on the phone. I swear to God, I would have punched him. Unfortunatelyโ€ฆ

โ€œListen, Gabriel, thereโ€™s a situation,โ€ Louis said, sounding worried. I believe even Gabriel noticed.

โ€œWhat situation? Listen, man, Oliviaโ€™s not here. Has she gone missing again?โ€ Gabriel asked, his voice also worried.

โ€œItโ€™s not that,โ€ Levi interjected quickly.

โ€œThen what is it?โ€ Gabriel sneered.

From where I stood, I remained silent, while my brothers exchanged glances, seeking my approval. I said nothing; I just looked away.

Louis continued, โ€œOliviaโ€ฆ has some memory loss. She has false memories. She doesnโ€™t remember us. She doesnโ€™t even know who we are. In factโ€ฆโ€ He paused, inhaling deeply. โ€œShe thinks youโ€™re her mate and husband. She thinks we kidnapped her.โ€

There was a long, heavy silence on the other end of the call. I could hear Gabriel breathing; nothing else.

Then came a sharp exhale. โ€œYouโ€™re joking,โ€ he said flatly.

โ€œI wish I was,โ€ Louis muttered.

โ€œYouโ€™re telling me,โ€ Gabriel said slowly, his voice darkening with each word, โ€œthat Oliviaโ€”your Oliviaโ€”has forgotten everythingโ€ฆ and she thinks Iโ€™m her mate?โ€

โ€œShe screamed it at us, actually,โ€ Levi muttered bitterly.

โ€œOver and over,โ€ Louis added. โ€œShe doesnโ€™t remember anything, Gabriel. Not us. Not the pack. Nothing. Just you.โ€

I remained silent, my jaw clenched. My eyes burned, not with sadness, but with pure rage. Rage that she had screamed his name and not mine. Rage that the only face her mind clung toโ€ฆ was his.

Gabriel laughedโ€”a short, disbelieving, annoying laugh. โ€œWell, isnโ€™t that just fantastic. Of all people, her brain decides Iโ€™m the one she trusts?โ€

โ€œWe hate you,โ€ Levi reminded him bluntly.

โ€œMutual, Levi,โ€ Gabriel shot back. โ€œI didnโ€™t call you for hugs.โ€

โ€œWe called you,โ€ Louis corrected sharply.

โ€œWhatever,โ€ Gabriel sounded tired. โ€œThis is a mess.โ€

โ€œNo shit,โ€ I muttered under my breath.

Then his tone shifted, becoming serious. โ€œPut her on the phone.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Levi and Louis said simultaneously.

โ€œLet me talk to her. If she thinks of me, maybe I can say something useful. Or calm her down. You said sheโ€™s terrified of you. Let me try before I come there.โ€

I looked away, grinding my teeth. Every part of me hated this. Hated giving him access to her. Hated that he might be the only one sheโ€™d listen to. But she was terrified of us. And if he could help her rememberโ€ฆ

I sighed heavily. โ€œFine. But if you say something against usโ€”โ€

โ€œI wonโ€™t,โ€ Gabriel said. For once, he didnโ€™t sound smug. โ€œJustโ€ฆ give her the phone.โ€

โ€œFine!โ€ I nodded to my brothers.

We walked back to the room, the phone gripped in my hand like a blade piercing my chest. I could hear Oliviaโ€™s soft, panicked whispers before I even opened the door. She was pacing, frightened, lost.

โ€œSheโ€™s not going to want to talk to us,โ€ Levi murmured.

I nodded. โ€œShe wonโ€™t have to.โ€

We entered her room, and her eyes snapped to mineโ€”wide, guarded. She took a step back.

โ€œGabrielโ€™s on the phone,โ€ I said quietly, my voice tighter than intended.

Her eyes widened. โ€œGabriel?โ€ she gasped, nearly dropping her water. โ€œMy Gabriel?โ€

I couldnโ€™t even look at her.

โ€œYes,โ€ I muttered, putting the phone on speaker and placing it on the table.

She ran to it as if her life depended on it. Her hands shook as she clutched the table, tears streaming down her face.

โ€œGabriel?โ€ her voice cracked. โ€œMy love? Itโ€™s you, right? Itโ€™s really you?โ€

My wolf growled deep inside me, writhing in agony. She called him โ€˜my love.โ€™ It felt like a knife twisting in my chest.

โ€œIโ€™m here, Olivia,โ€ Gabrielโ€™s voice, calm, steady, almost gentle, came through the speaker. โ€œHey, baby. Iโ€™m right here.โ€

A sob escaped her throat. โ€œThey took me, Gabriel. They kidnapped me. Iโ€”I donโ€™t know where I am. Iโ€™m so scared. You have to come get me. Please. You said youโ€™d never leave meโ€”why did you let them take me?โ€

She trembled, clutching the table like a lifeline.

Gabriel was quiet. Then, softer, โ€œLivโ€ฆ listen to me, okay? They didnโ€™t kidnap you.โ€

โ€œThey did! Theyโ€™re lying! They say youโ€™re not my mateโ€”they say I belong to them. But thatโ€™s not true, right?โ€ Her voice was desperate, breaking.

โ€œTheyโ€™re your husbands,โ€ Gabriel said calmly.

โ€œNo!โ€ Olivia shouted, backing away from the phone. โ€œStop lying to me! I donโ€™t know them! I want you! I only remember you!โ€

She curled into herself, weeping.

I couldnโ€™t take it anymore. I turned away, staring at the wall, my fists clenched so tight my nails broke the skin.

But thenโ€ฆ Gabriel did something unexpected.

He sighed. โ€œOkay. Okay, Liv. Youโ€™re right. I was joking. Alright?โ€

She sniffled, pausing.

โ€œTheyโ€™re not your husbands. Theyโ€™re my friends.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Louis whispered.

Gabriel continued smoothly. โ€œTheyโ€™re helping me protect you. The packโ€™s in danger. A war is coming, Olivia. I had to send you somewhere safeโ€”somewhere no one would expect. Thatโ€™s why youโ€™re with them. Because I trust them.โ€

She blinked, breathing shakily. โ€œYou trust them?โ€

โ€œI do. They wonโ€™t hurt you, Liv. I promise. Theyโ€™re my friendsโ€ฆ and so theyโ€™ll protect whatโ€™s mine.โ€

Her body relaxed slightly. โ€œSoโ€ฆ Iโ€™m safe?โ€

โ€œYes. Youโ€™re safe. Just breathe, baby. Youโ€™re okay.โ€

She smiled faintly through her tears. โ€œI was so scared, Gabrielโ€ฆ I thought something happened to you. Iโ€”I kept thinking about youโ€ฆ I still want to fight with you. I want to protect you, too.โ€

โ€œI know,โ€ Gabriel said. โ€œAnd you will. But right now, I need you to rest. Trust them. For me.โ€

She nodded slowly, wiping her tears. โ€œOkayโ€ฆ okay. I trust them. For you.โ€

I swallowed hard, my heart aching. Gabriel had done what none of us could: made her believe. Calmed her. And it killed me inside.

The silence after her last words was thickโ€”like the air itself held its breath. Olivia had stopped crying, her trembling slowed. She sat near the table, her hand resting gently against the phone as if touching it would keep Gabriel close.

โ€œI want to see you,โ€ she whispered, soft and pleading. โ€œCan you come get me now?โ€

On the other end, Gabriel hesitated. Then, with maddening ease, he answered, โ€œNot yet, Liv. I wish I could, but I canโ€™t come right now. Itโ€™s not safeโ€”for either of us.โ€

Her lips trembled. โ€œButโ€”why?โ€

โ€œBecause the warโ€™s just starting. I need to stay here and lead the others. But Iโ€™ll call you every day. Iโ€™ll talk to you until this is over. And when the war endsโ€ฆโ€ His voice softened to a gentle promise. โ€œIโ€™ll come get you myself. I swear.โ€

Her face softened like a storm giving way to sunlight. โ€œYou promise?โ€

โ€œI do,โ€ he said. โ€œYouโ€™re mine. Iโ€™d never leave you behind.โ€

And thenโ€ฆ she smiledโ€”a small, heartbreaking smile, full of hope and longing.

โ€œI love you,โ€ she murmured.

A blade twisted inside my chest. I froze. My wolf howled in agony, clawing inside my chest. She said she loved him.

Oliviaโ€”our mateโ€”had never said that to us. Not once. Not even when she had her memories. But she had said it to him. Freely. Softly. As if it had always been true.

โ€œI love you too, Olivia,โ€ Gabriel replied, his voice low and smooth. โ€œI always will.โ€

Olivia smiled a big, bright smile.

โ€œI have to go now, dearโ€ฆ Iโ€™ll call tomorrow, okay? Be a good girl for me, alright?โ€

Olivia nodded. โ€œYes, darling. I will.โ€

My heart sank, and the call ended.
