Oliviaโs POV
Oh no. I will be exposed. This healerโhe looked serious, with sharp eyes that made me nervous immediately. I quickly wiped away my fake tears but maintained my scared act. The triplets looked tense, as if caught doing something wrong. Louis quickly stepped forward.
โShe just woke up,โ he told the healer. โSheโs confused. Please check her.โ
โShe doesnโt know who we are,โ Levi added, his voice worried and tired. โShe keeps asking for Gabriel.โ
Lennox muttered, โSheโs lying,โ but he sounded unsure.
I kept my face innocent and afraid, but deep down, my heart raced. What if the healer discovered my pretense? What if he told them?
โNervous now, huh?โ my wolf laughed inside my head. โYou really got yourself into this.โ
โBe quiet,โ I told her.
The healer approached and looked me in the eye. โOlivia,โ he said gently, โdo you know where you are?โ
I shook my head and let a tear fall. โNoโฆ These men say theyโre my mates, but I donโt remember them. I want to go back to my husband.โ
The healer raised an eyebrow. โWhatโs his name?โ
โGabriel,โ I answered immediately. โHeโs the Alpha of the Shadow Pack.โ
Fuck! Of all names, why Gabriel? Maybe because it was the most realistic, and it would definitely suit my plan.
The healer observed me for a few seconds, then examined my head, touching my temples and looking into my eyes.
โDo you have a headache?โ he asked.
โA little,โ I whispered, โbut Iโm more scared than anything.โ
Levi flinched as if that hurt him more than a punch.
The healer slowly stood and looked at the triplets.
โWell?โ Lennox asked, barely containing his anger. โWhatโs wrong with her?โ
The healer sighed. โFrom what I seeโher fear, her confusion, and memory problemsโit looks like she really doesnโt remember you.โ
Boom.
Lennox punched the wall. Louis sat down heavily, unable to stand. Levi turned away, hands in his hair, breathing hard. They believed it. They actually believed I didnโt know them. The pain on their faces looked so real, so deep. For a second, I almost felt bad. Almost.
โLook at them,โ my wolf whispered. โTheyโre scared. Scared of losing you. Scared that you forgot them.โ
I swallowed hard, my fake tears still flowing, but something inside me twisted unexpectedly. Pity? They were scared. Scared of me forgetting them. Scared of being forgotten.
โYouโre sure?โ Louis choked out, eyes glassy. โShe doesnโt remember us?โ
The healer nodded. โYes. Head trauma like this can lead to temporary, or in rare cases, permanent memory loss. Itโs hard to say right now.โ
โIs there anything we can do?โ Levi rasped.
โLet her rest,โ the healer replied. โTry not to overwhelm her. If what she says is true, pushing too hard could only worsen things.โ
โNoโฆ this canโt be happening! If she can forget anybody, it canโt be usโฆ we are her mates! Her husbands!โ Lennox snapped.
The healer stared at me with an unreadable expression before turning to the triplets. โIn some cases, patients donโt remember people theyโve experienced emotional distress with. Itโs possible that, in her unconscious state, Oliviaโs mind chose to suppress those memories. Itโs not uncommon for the brain to protect itself by forgetting what it subconsciously considers traumatic or painful.โ
He paused, then added, โIn her case, it appears she doesnโt want to remember you three. Itโs like her mind is rejecting everything connected to you.โ
The healerโs explanation wowed meโwhat a great excuse!
โAnd Gabriel?โ Louis asked sharply. โWhy does she think Gabriel is her husband?โ
The healer answered immediately. โJust like she wanted to forget you three, in her unconscious state she wished she was mated and married to Alpha Gabriel instead. That was why when she woke up, her memory reset, and she thinks he is her mate.โ
Oh, this healer was good. I almost burst out laughing when he saidโwith a perfectly straight faceโthat I had forgotten the triplets because my unconscious mind didnโt want to remember them. Bravo, sir. Truly. Ten out of ten. Someone give this man an Oscar.
Was this man lying to the triplets, or did he really think this was the truth? And as if that wasnโt enough, he even threw in a bonus line about me wishing to be married to Gabriel so badly that my brain rewired itselfโpoofโwelcome to delusion land, population: me.
I had to bite my cheek to stop myself from smirking. This man was better than I ever hoped for. The triplets stood there, stunned as if hit by a truck full of heartbreak and existential crisis. Lennoxโs eyes snapped to mine, burning with pain. Levi looked physically ill, as if someone had just told him puppies werenโt real. Louis? Poor guy looked like heโd aged five years in five seconds.
I kept my scared-little-lamb expression firmly in place, even though inside, I was screaming with laughter. Then I made it worse. Much worse.
I whimpered and curled into myself, hugging my knees like I was hiding from a pack of monsters. โPleaseโฆโ I whispered, my voice barely audible. โPlease take me home to Gabrielโฆ I donโt feel safe here.โ
Three. Instant. Reactions. Lennox flinched as if Iโd stabbed him in the chest. Leviโs breath hitchedโhe actually made a choking sound. Louis blinked rapidly, as if trying not to cry.
I bit the inside of my lip hard to stop myself from bursting out laughing. It was almost too good. This wasnโt just acting anymore; this was art. I even added a little trembling to my hands for dramatic flair. โHeโs probably worried sick about meโฆโ I sniffled. โHe must be looking for me.โ
Lennox punched the wall again. At this rate, he was going to knock the whole damn house down.
โI canโt do this,โ Levi growled, storming toward the door as if needing airโor maybe just a private place to scream into a pillowโbut he didnโt leave.
Louis reached for my hand, but I jerked away as if he were a monster. He froze, then backed up slowly, his heart practically bleeding from his eyes. โShe really doesnโt remember,โ he whispered.
I blinked at him, wide-eyed. โPlease, donโt touch me.โ
Louis let out a sound like someone had just drop-kicked his soul.
The healer, calm as ever, nodded sagely like a wise old owl. โItโs best you give her space. For her healing.โ
Healing? Oh, I was healing alrightโhealing their egos one fake tear at a time. But I still wasnโt done.
I sniffled again and looked at all of them with watery eyes. โI just want to go homeโฆ to my husbandโฆโ
Boom. There it was. Triple heartbreak. Served hot. They all turned to me again, as if I was the villain here. And technicallyโI was. But oh well.
I blinked innocently. โWill youโฆ let me call him?โ
Lennox groaned like heโd just taken a bullet. Levi muttered something that sounded like a curse and a prayer mashed together. Louis sat down again, looking like a ghost.
And me? I just buried my face in my hands again and whispered brokenly, โPlease donโt hurt meโฆ I just want to go home.โ
God, I deserved an award.
