Chapter 41

“Joshua, you’re my dog! How dare you see someone else behind my back?” Bacqorile gritted her teeth. Each time she slapped me, she cursed, “Scam?” My face swelled from her slaps, and tears welled in the corner of my eye.

After a moment, she dropped her hand. She rubbed her palm as she glared at me angrily. “What a ledile you are. A woman just raised a finger at you, and you’re already… ”

I looked up at her calmly. It turned out that she felt her status and power… her raised hand slapping my face again and again.

Iride had been threatened. In her mind, the reason I stayed with the nth family and by her side wasn’t because of our contract. She thought I was interested in her and wanted to marry her. The loyal dog at her side had run off with someone else. Of course, she wasn’t taking it well. That’s why she dragged me into her office to humiliate me.

“Get out! Don’t let me see you again!”

With that, she kicked me to the ground. I winced at the pain, yet I felt surprisingly relieved. I only hoped she meant what she said. I would be thrilled to never see her again.

I returned to my small storage room and continued with my work. However, I could still hear Racquelle yelling in her office. “Worthless scum, disgusting woman, the whole lot of them are trash!” Her tirades were loud enough to make the employees outside hold their breath in fear. Everyone was well aware that this supervisor had no real ability and only knew how to bully. Thus, it was best to stay far away and avoid provoking her.

After work, I was just about to pack and leave when Gerald suddenly called me, asking me to take Racquelle to the airport to meet him. He wanted to bring us to a business gala, to introduce us to some influential people and explore collaboration opportunities.

“Okay, Dud,” I agreed and got up to go to Racquelle’s office. To be frank, I knew Gerald’s main priority was to benefit Racquelle, expand her connections, and pave the way for her future. However, he was genuinely good to me. He never hesitated to teach me things and would introduce me to his contacts. He would even introduce me openly, saying I was his son, the eldest.

In truth, I was deeply grateful to him. If it weren’t for him, my sister would have likely… and I wouldn’t have the achievements I have today. This was also the reason why I stayed by Harquello’s side, enduring everything.

When I arrived at her office and knocked on the door, I only heard her shout, “What is it?”

“There’s something important, Ms. Racquelle,” I replied politely. However, she yelled back in her usual overbearing tone, “Get in here and tell me!”

I pushed open the door, only to be taken aback by what I saw. Vernon, at some point, had come to Racquelle’s office. At that moment, he was sitting on the sofa, holding her close as they indulged in a shameless kiss. Racquelle’s cheeks were flushed, and she was breathing heavily as she pushed Vernon away.

The moment she lifted her head, the tenderness in her eyes instantly transformed into contempt and malice. “What do you want? Can’t you see I’m busy?” Vernon looked at me with an amused expression. He shook his head, pulling her closer on purpose as he smirked mockingly at me.

“Wow, Mr. Smith, you know how to pick your timing. Did you do this on purpose?”

The misunderstanding ran deep. Even now, Vernon still thought I had feelings for Racquelle. I found it incredibly laughable, to the point that I didn’t even want to explain. Inwardly, I thought that Racquelle and Vernon really were two of a kind. Even their idiotic thoughts were so perfectly aligned.

I ignored Vernon’s comment and looked at Racquelle as I said calmly, “Dad wants to go to a business gala.”

“Shut up!” Racquelle pointed at me angrily and yelled, “He’s my dad, not yours! You don’t deserve to be a part of the Smith family!”
