Chapter 37
“Come on, Shanice, let’s keep drinking,” Roquelle proffered a glass of alcohol and handed it to Shanice. Shanice shook her head. Her gaze was fixed intently on me, with no intention of looking away.
“Mall bare hon. I’ll take him with me. Time dies in a second for anyone, so seize the moment and…” Shanice smiled, grabbed the glass, and wound up. “Happy birthday, Ranquelle! We’ll see you some other…”
Shanice pulled me out of the party room. As we were leaving, I still heard Racquelle’s displeased, angry voice. “He’s just a wrench! I don’t even care!”
Shanice pretended not to hear, adjusting my tie as she led me to the parking lot. She pointed to a pink G-Wagen and asked with a smile, “Do you know how to drive?”
“I do,” I looked at her calmly and said indifferently. “That I have no obligation to drive for you, nor do I have any responsibility to keep you company.”
After saying that, I turned and tried to leave. However, Shanice arched her eyebrow as she looked at me, intentionally bringing up Racquelle.
“Ranquelle has already agreed to this. Aren’t you afraid she’ll be hard on you if you don’t obey her?”
I gave a dry laugh, my gaze calm and unperturbed. “Do as you please.” With that, I turned to leave again.
Shanice, however, flashed a playful smile and followed behind me. “I was right about you. Why don’t we have a chat? What exactly is your purpose in lurking around Racquelle?”
“It must be hard, keeping it all bottled up inside. Why not tell me? I promise I’ll keep it a secret!”
She trailed behind me, asking question after question, like a persistent fly buzzing around me—annoying and hard to shake off.
She hurried and continued behind me, saying, “Hey, why are you in such a hurry? We can get to know each other better. If you get to know me, you’ll see that I’m someone trustworthy.” I sneered, thinking of Shanice’s proximity to Racquelle. Bringing her to Racquelle—how could she be any good? She even wanted me to trust her. How ridiculous! How could any good people linger around Racquelle? As the saying goes, birds of a feather flock together. Even if Shanice was initially good, spending time with someone like Racquelle would surely corrupt her, turning her rotten.
“Hey, are you…”
Unfazed, Shanice chased after me, shouting persistently, “You’re so arrogant and temperamental! Why don’t you take it out on Racquelle?” Finally fed up with her pestering, I stopped, looked at her calmly, and asked, “I really don’t get it. Why are you so intent on bothering me?”
“If you’re looking for good-looking women, you could easily find a handful with your looks. You have no reason to keep harassing me.” “This is the first and last we’ll meet. I don’t want to have anything to do with women like you.” I glanced at Shanice and turned to leave.
However, she was unwilling to give up. She blocked my path again, raising an eyebrow.
“You said, ‘women like you?’” She smirked, pausing intentionally as she looked at me, then asked again, “Women like me… what kind of woman am I, exactly? Can you…”
I looked at her calmly and said indifferently, “Women like Racquelle: selfish and foolish.” I said this with no mercy, practically offending both of them at once. If Racquelle were standing here and heard what I said, she would surely be furious.
But now, Shanice wasn’t angry upon hearing what I said. Instead, her eyes sparkled as she looked at me, smiling and nodding.
“Oh, no wonder you didn’t want anything to do with me. So, you’ve misunderstood me, have you?”
