Chapter 66
Willie observed Leonard and Jane's expressions; a feeling of triumph surged through him. He knew victory was swinging his way.
He approached Cameron, patted him on the shoulder with feigned magnanimity, and said, "My friend, I'm a man too. I know how you feel. It's normal for men to lie to protect their pride."
"Seeing as you're so eager to meet Mr. Kane, I can help you. I can even arrange a job. After all, men shouldn't be mooching off women, right?"
Cameron frowned. Was this man deaf or stupid? How many times did he have to repeat himself?
Thinking Cameron was speechless from being exposed, Willie swelled with pride. "Come to Darth Holdings' Human Resources Department tomorrow. You look sturdy; I'll arrange a security guard position. This way, you can see Mr. Kane every day. Perhaps you'll even get to greet him!"
While Willie offered a job, he aimed to humiliate Cameron, highlighting the perceived gap between them.
"No need," Cameron calmly refused.
Florence snorted coldly. "What's wrong? Unsatisfied with being a security guard? Look at yourself! People are desperate to work at Darth Holdings. Look at Willie!" She still hoped to pair Willie with Dakota.
Charlie added, "Leo, I don't want to make things difficult, but you saw what happened. Should we let this man into our family?"
Leonard and Jane's faces darkened. Leonard shook his head. Cameron lied and didn't even want to work! He was unworthy of respect. Compared to Cameron, Willie's arrogance, at least, stemmed from something.
Dakota grew anxious as her parents' faces darkened. "Mom, Dad What's wrong with you? Don't listen to them! Cameron helped me secure the contract by contacting Mr. Kane. Believe me!"
Leonard remained silent.
Jane sighed. "Dakota, we're not forcing you to marry rich, but your husband should be honest. Your father and I don't approve of Cameron's"
Dakota explained anxiously, "But Mom, what Cameron said is true! I signed the contract with Mr. Kane two days ago! It takes effect after Darth Holdings' Legal Department completes its review. I planned to tell you after everything was settled!"
Seeing her daughter's distress, Jane worried. Dakota had grown up under their protection. She didn't want her deceived or her feelings toyed with.
Dakota stomped her foot, noticing her mother's doubt. "Don't you believe your own daughter?"
Jane decided to speak privately with Dakota. She didn't want to say what she had to say in front of the others, especially Cameron.
