Chapter 29

"Dream on! Dakota, you bitch!" Madison cursed Dakota silently. Their relationship with Archie was jeopardized by the project's failure, and Dakota had the audacity to try and justify her actions. Did she think Madison was a fool? Madison vowed retribution. On Dakota's birthday, Lord Caspian would deal with her.

Dakota, unaware of Madison's true feelings, believed her apology was accepted. "Okay, Maddy, I'll be there. I've already prepared a birthday gift for you!"

"Dakota, you're truly my best friend," Madison replied, feigning affection.

"Of course!" Dakota said proudly.

"I'll see you there then, Dakota. I have some things to attend to now." Madison ended the conversation, her goal achieved.

"Okay, go ahead. I have to take a shower too."

Dakota was ecstatic, almost throwing her phone in the air. She and Madison were the closest of friends, sharing everything and easily resolving misunderstandings.

She immediately shared the good news with Cameron.

Reading Dakota's message, Cameron frowned. When had Madison become so understanding? She'd accepted Dakota's explanation so easily and even invited her to her birthday party?

Confused, he typed a congratulatory message. "It's great that you two made up!"

"Yeah! I didn't expect Maddy to understand me so well. It seems our twenty-year friendship wasn't in vain," Dakota replied proudly.

"Indeed," Cameron replied. "By the way, did Madison mention anything else, like me or our relationship?"

"No," Dakota answered.

"No?" Cameron muttered, sensing something was amiss. Knowing Madison, it was impossible she wouldn't question Dakota, especially after seeing them together outside Darth Holdings earlier.

"Dakota, do you think Madison's attitude seems a bit unusual?" Cameron knew this might seem like he was trying to sow discord, but he was worried about Dakota's safety.

"Not really. We've argued before, but we always talk things out and reconcile quickly," Dakota replied, happily oblivious. "Now that the misunderstanding is cleared up, there should be no more conflicts between you and her too."

"Is that so? Maybe I'm worrying for nothing. Are you happy now?" Cameron asked.

"Yeah! All thanks to you!"

"Haha. Why are you thanking me? I didn't do anything."

"But I still want to thank you!" Without Cameron's support, she wouldn't have approached Madison so soon. She was truly grateful.

"Then, I'll graciously accept this thanks."

"Alright! I won't disturb your rest anymore. I'm going to take a shower now."

"Sure."

After ending the call, Dakota hummed happily and went to the bathroom.

Cameron, on the other hand, frowned again. He couldn't shake the feeling something was wrong. Madison wasn't the type to willingly accept a loss. Still, he might be overthinking. Dakota and Madison had been best friends since childhood, sharing everything. On the recent cruise, Dakota had even helped Madison plead with Lord Blackheart. No matter how bad Madison was, she wouldn't conspire against Dakota, would she?
