Even After Her Death
Chapter 468: Luther Again
โIโm pregnant.โ Two men turned to look at me.
โYouโre pregnant?โ they both said in unison. Many waiting patients in the gynecology clinic turned to stare. For a moment, everyoneโs attention was on us. After all, Carter and Luke were both very handsome. People who didnโt know us might think I had two men, and they couldnโt help but scrutinize us. I quickly pulled Carter away.
It was clear neither man had fully processed the news. Carter only knew Iโd visited the small town and learned the truth, but he didnโt know Iโd taken the special medicine. He was shocked by the pregnancy announcement.
I threw myself into Carterโs arms, overwhelmed with joy and tears. โCarter, Iโm finally pregnant! Weโre going to have a baby!โ
How could Carter not be happy? He was so overjoyed he didnโt know what to say. He bent down and held me tightly. โChloe, my sweet Chloe.โ
I felt warm tears falling on my neck and quickly looked upโhe was crying. This was a side of Carter Iโd never seen before. I reached up to gently touch his face, trying to calm him and tell him not to cry. But I couldnโt hold back my own tears of joy. A million emotions choked me, and all I could do was say, โWeโre having a baby. Weโre finally having a baby.โ
Luke stood to the side, staring at us in a daze. His face was clouded with sadness. Perhaps he was reminded of the pastโwhen he was with Wisteria, and I was pregnant with his child. Heโd pushed me to the ground and ended our babyโs life with his own hands. Today, Carterโs reaction was the complete opposite of Lukeโs back then. How could he not feel sad?
Carter swept me up in his arms, pressing a kiss to my cheek. โDarling, youโre amazing.โ
I wrapped my arms around his neck. โPut me down, Iโm fine.โ
โThe first three months are crucial. We need to be careful.โ
โThereโs no need to be so cautious. The doctor said I was in great health, and the babyโs fine. In two weeksโฆโ
โStill, you need to be careful.โ
He carried me to the car while Luke quietly got into the back. Carter held my hand firmly. His eyes were filled with such warmth and affection that it felt like they could drown me. He treated me like a fragile piece of porcelain, afraid I would shatter if he wasnโt careful. The news of our baby cleared away the dark cloud that had loomed over us for so long.
Back at the Bolton Residence, I was eager to share this joyful news with Jeffrey. As soon as we stepped out of the car, I noticed Alisa with a slightly rounded belly. Oh, it had been so long since I last saw Alisa that I almost forgot how deeply she felt for Luke.
โUncle Carter, Aunt Zoey,โ she greeted us politely.
I looked at her gently rounded belly, and because I was also pregnant, I felt an unexpected sense of warmth and connection.
โHow far along are you?โ
โAlmost five months.โ She softly rubbed her belly. โThe doctor says itโs a girl.โ
โWhether itโs a boy or a girl, Iโm happy either way. Can I touch her?โ
โOf course! Iโve already felt some strong movements. In another two weeks, weโll be able to do the 4D ultrasound and see the babyโs face.โ
In the past, my baby left before I could feel any movement, so this felt especially surreal. Soon, my own baby would be doing the same. I bent down and gently placed my hand on her belly. At this moment, the feeling of motherhood was undeniable. On the outside, it was hard to see, but there was this soft, almost ethereal feeling. It felt like there was a little fish swimming around in the amniotic fluid. My heart melted.
โI think I can really feel her moving.โ
Alisa smiled gently. โAunt Zoey, once you have your baby, youโll feel it more clearly.โ
Because of my past experiences, I didnโt want to reveal the news of my pregnancy yet. Even though she was part of the Boltons, itโs always wise to be cautious. I nodded, exchanged a few words with her, and then made my way over to Jeffrey.
Alisa eagerly approached Luke, but he seemed distant, his attitude cold and detached toward her. I couldnโt help but shake my head. He had never known how to appreciate what was right in front of him, which was why he kept letting things slip away.
I quietly shared this with Jeffrey, who, though happy, maintained a calm expression.
โChloe, has anyone else found out about the baby?โ
I shook my head. โFor now, only Carter, Luke, and I know.โ
โThatโs good. We canโt let the wrong people find out about this.โ
I understood exactly what he meant. There had always been people keeping a close eye on the Boltons, both openly and secretly. Now that I was carrying the Boltonsโ child, I feared I might become a target as well.
โYeah, but what about the baby Alisaโs expecting?โ
โI brought her here to rest and protect the baby. No matter what happens between her and Luke, the child in her womb will always be part of the Boltons. There canโt be any accidents. You also need to be extra careful, understand?โ
โI understand.โ
After having dinner with Jeffrey, we left. Thinking about the finance class Whitney had signed up for, I realized it was about time to leave.
โCarter, letโs pick up Whitney on the way.โ
โAlright, but are you sure youโre not too tired?โ
โDonโt worry, I feel fine for now. Whitney just left the Carlyns, and she doesnโt have any friends in this city. I want to spend more time with her. Itโs her first day of school, and Iโm worried someone might pick on her.โ
We headed to the school. This finance academy catered to an elite clientele. The high tuition fees alone filtered out ordinary people. In addition to some prestigious professors, they also invited financial experts to give lectures. As a result, many young people from affluent families enrolled in these classes to improve their skills, while some professionals took them to expand their networks. Someone like Whitney, who didnโt study in the traditional school system, was a rare case. The real world could be complicated, unlike the simplicity of student life. I worried that my sister would suffer, which was why I came to take a look.
The class wasnโt over yet, but Whitney was focused and taking notes attentively. There was a man sitting next to her, wearing black-framed glasses, who kept eyeing her. The way he looked at her made my skin crawl. It was the kind of look that measured her worth.
Sure enough, as soon as class ended and Whitney was about to leave, the man stepped forward.
โHey, Whitney, letโs exchange contact information.โ
Whitney replied calmly, โI donโt have a phone.โ
โCome on, donโt be so rude. Weโre all here to broaden our networks, right? Iโmโโ
โIโm not interested in what you do.โ
Whitney turned to leave, but the man grabbed her shoulder. โWait.โ
A wave of anger surged inside me. Where was Damian? Someone needed to knock this guy out! As I scanned the area for Damian, a deep male voice suddenly rang out, โLet her go.โ The voice sounded so familiar. I looked up, and a tall figure came into view.
Luther? How was it him? This was too much of a coincidence. First at school during the day, and now here.
The guy with the glasses glared at Luther. โWho are you? I spotted this girl first, so if you donโt want trouble, get lost!โ
Whitney gave him a dismissive look, clearly uninterested in him, and even less interested in Luther. She turned and started to walk away. I whispered to myself, โHow could it be him?โ
