Chapter 147
I scrambled from the water, the thrill of a second chance coursing through me, making my whole body tremble. The blood loss, combined with the slippery bathtub, made it a struggle, but I finally got up. Grabbing a dry towel, I wrapped it tightly around my wrist, pressing hard on the wound. My eyes darted around for my phone; I quickly dialed 911.
When the operator answered, I blurted out, "I tried to take my own life by cutting my wrists. I've lost a lot of blood. Please, hurry."
There was a pause. The operator sounded surprised. "Did you say you tried to commit suicide?" she asked, her tone suggesting disbelief.
Desperation crept into my voice. "Yes, I wanted to end it, but I changed my mind. I regret it!"
"Where are you?"
"I'm atโฆ I'm sorry, I don't know." I hesitated, realizing I had no idea where I was or who I even was. "Is there anyone else with you?"
I glanced around the bathroom. It seemed upscale. Pushing open the door, I found the house dark and silent. It was almost midnight.
Frustrated by my lack of information, the operator snapped, "Miss, please don't waste valuable time. You might be costing others who truly need help."
"I'm not making this up. I justโฆ" I began, but she hung up.
The absurdity of the situation was overwhelming, yet the pain in my wrist was a stark reminder of my precarious state. I couldn't dwell on it; I needed to get to a hospital.
Stepping outside, I realized I was in an empty villa. The entire place was eerily vacant. Recognizing the street signs, I thankfully found myself in a familiar neighborhood where I'd visited family.
Snow fell, and I ran barefoot in my flimsy nightgown. My bare toes felt the icy street, the wind stinging my cheeks. The sprawling neighborhood, usually comforting, now felt like a curse, with no taxis or people in sight.
Then, I heard a car. Hope surged through me. I waved it down, pounding on the window desperately. The door slid open, and a wave of warmth hit me. Ignoring the driver's expression, I hauled my weakening body into the car.
I saw polished leather shoes and sharply pressed trousers. "Sir, please, take me to the hospital, Iโฆ"
Before I could finish, my strength failed, and I collapsed against the man. As consciousness faded, I felt hands catch me, and met eyes that were cold yet strangely familiar. He stared, shock etched on his face.
