Chapter 100

Grandma had just stopped crying, but my mention of it unleashed a fresh torrent of tears. I realized, too late, that while I'd accepted my own death, I hadn't considered my family's grief, especially Grandma's. She'd only recently learned the news, and her heart was far from healed. The thought of my absence was devastating.

Marian quickly intervened, gently dabbing Grandma's tears. "Oh, please don't cry. You need to stay strong for when Amanda comes back, right? Crying like this every day won't help."

Grandma's sorrow was palpable. She looked at me, knowing tears couldn't bring me back. I had planned to care for her in her old age, but fate had other plans. Who could have imagined she'd be burying me?

Nicole walked away with a cold smirk, confident Grandma's grief would break her. I stayed with Grandma, comforting her until she calmed.

"Grandma, even though I'm gone, I'm still here with you, differently. I don't need food or water anymore, and no one can hurt me now. I'm okay," I reassured her. "I felt lonely before because I couldn't talk to you, but now I can keep you company. It's not so bad, right?"

"If you get bored, I can even dance for you," I added, twirling in the sunlight, mimicking my first Christmas dance. Grandma's spirits lifted, and Marian watched in amazement.

"Grandma, stick to the treatment and get better soon. You're my last hope. Only you can tell the world what happened to me." Grandma blinked, accepting my plan.

Soon after, Marian noticed Grandma had wet the bed. Though speechless, her eyes were filled with shame. This was a difficult moment for the strong woman she'd always been. But Marian was unfazed. After all, she was the orphan Grandma had taken in, and their bond was deep.

"Mrs. Kennedy, it's alright. I've been by your side for years, and I don't mind at all," Marian said, gently cleaning her and ensuring her comfort, using plenty of water to prevent sores.

Closing the door, Marian whispered, "I came to look after you, Mrs. Kennedy. This hospital visit wasn't an accident. Nicole is trouble. She got me out of the way, and then you ended up here. Everyone knows you can't stand her; she must have done something shady."

Marian's words reassured me. Anyone sensible would suspect Nicole.

Marian sighed, "It's my fault for not getting here sooner. I let her get to you. No one in the family believes me because I'm just a servant, but I'll stand by you. I won't let her hurt you again. I spoke to the doctor. It's temporary clotting in your head from stress. You'll gradually get better."

Grandma's eyes shone with determination. The moment she recovered, she would expose Nicole and spread the news of my death!
