She broke into a teary smile, looking both disheveled and endearing.
Choking up, Megan asked, โAurora, are you really okay? You didnโt fall, right? Youโre not hurt? Nothing got hit?โ
Aurora shook her head. โIโm fine. My legs just gave out for a moment, I lost my balance a little. Itโs really not as bad as you think.โ
โWell, yeahโฆ she almost went face-first into the floor.โ
Meganโs eyes widened. โWhat? Face-first?!โ
Her voice shot up a few octaves.
Clearly, she couldnโt handle hearing that.
Sheโd promised to be here and take care of Aurora.
And now? Aurora had nearly fallen flat on her face.
She felt completely useless.
The thought only made Megan feel even more guilty.
Leonard watched from the side, and even he felt a pang of discomfort.
But he was just an outsider in this momentโhe didnโt know what to say.
And truthfully, after what Lucas had said earlier, he realized he mightโve overstepped.
Leonard pressed his lips into a tight line, ultimately choosing not to step forward again.
Lucasโ look from before had made him feel utterly exposed.
It was like he was invisible in front of Lucas.
And more than that, he didnโt even know where to place his own pride.
Leonardโs inner thoughts were unknown to everyone else.
No one could see what was going on inside him.
As long as he didnโt do anything too bold, Lucas wasnโt planning to expose him just yet.
But Leonard had better keep himself in check.
A cold glint flickered in Lucasโ eyes because if he didnโt, Lucas had no problem being the villain.
Aurora looked at Meganโs shocked expression and could only shoot Lucas an exasperated glare.
She had just managed to calm Megan down, and now Lucas, with just a few words, had stirred it all back up.
Was all her effort just wasted?
She had no idea what Lucas was even trying to do at this point.
Aurora hugged Megan tightly to comfort her. โAlright, alright, itโs really not that serious. Donโt listen to your cousin exaggerating everything.
โI just lost my balance, thatโs all. Nothing else happened. Itโs mainly because my muscles havenโt fully recovered yet, so my legs gave out for a second.โ
Meganโs eyes were still filled with tears. โThenโฆ Aurora, promise me youโll listen to me from now on, okay?โ
She didnโt care about being blamed or scolded.
All she wanted was for Aurora to recover safely and stay healthy.
Everything else could wait.
Seeing the two of them like this, Lucas pressed his lips together and said nothing more.
The two girls were clearly close, and something like this wasnโt going to change that.
It wasnโt worth making a scene over.
Still, after this incident, Megan became even more watchful of Aurora.
She practically wanted to stick to her side twenty-four hours a day.
Of course, she knew that wasnโt realistic.
But in her heart, she was determined to take full responsibility for Aurora.
Anything she could do, she wouldnโt leave undone.
And any chance to stay by Auroraโs side, sheโd take.
With a beaming smile, Megan proudly laid out all the breakfast sheโd brought.
โAurora, letโs not talk about all this sad stuff anymore. Letโs eat, okay?โ
She busied herself cheerfully, as if the earlier tension had completely vanished.
