Listen to this chapter:

She broke into a teary smile, looking both disheveled and endearing.

Choking up, Megan asked, โ€œAurora, are you really okay? You didnโ€™t fall, right? Youโ€™re not hurt? Nothing got hit?โ€

Aurora shook her head. โ€œIโ€™m fine. My legs just gave out for a moment, I lost my balance a little. Itโ€™s really not as bad as you think.โ€

โ€œWell, yeahโ€ฆ she almost went face-first into the floor.โ€

Meganโ€™s eyes widened. โ€œWhat? Face-first?!โ€

Her voice shot up a few octaves.

Clearly, she couldnโ€™t handle hearing that.

Sheโ€™d promised to be here and take care of Aurora.

And now? Aurora had nearly fallen flat on her face.

She felt completely useless.

The thought only made Megan feel even more guilty.

Leonard watched from the side, and even he felt a pang of discomfort.

But he was just an outsider in this momentโ€”he didnโ€™t know what to say.

And truthfully, after what Lucas had said earlier, he realized he mightโ€™ve overstepped.

Leonard pressed his lips into a tight line, ultimately choosing not to step forward again.

Lucasโ€™ look from before had made him feel utterly exposed.

It was like he was invisible in front of Lucas.

And more than that, he didnโ€™t even know where to place his own pride.

Leonardโ€™s inner thoughts were unknown to everyone else.

No one could see what was going on inside him.

As long as he didnโ€™t do anything too bold, Lucas wasnโ€™t planning to expose him just yet.

But Leonard had better keep himself in check.

A cold glint flickered in Lucasโ€™ eyes because if he didnโ€™t, Lucas had no problem being the villain.

Aurora looked at Meganโ€™s shocked expression and could only shoot Lucas an exasperated glare.

She had just managed to calm Megan down, and now Lucas, with just a few words, had stirred it all back up.

Was all her effort just wasted?

She had no idea what Lucas was even trying to do at this point.

Aurora hugged Megan tightly to comfort her. โ€œAlright, alright, itโ€™s really not that serious. Donโ€™t listen to your cousin exaggerating everything.

โ€œI just lost my balance, thatโ€™s all. Nothing else happened. Itโ€™s mainly because my muscles havenโ€™t fully recovered yet, so my legs gave out for a second.โ€

Meganโ€™s eyes were still filled with tears. โ€œThenโ€ฆ Aurora, promise me youโ€™ll listen to me from now on, okay?โ€

She didnโ€™t care about being blamed or scolded.

All she wanted was for Aurora to recover safely and stay healthy.

Everything else could wait.

Seeing the two of them like this, Lucas pressed his lips together and said nothing more.

The two girls were clearly close, and something like this wasnโ€™t going to change that.

It wasnโ€™t worth making a scene over.

Still, after this incident, Megan became even more watchful of Aurora.

She practically wanted to stick to her side twenty-four hours a day.

Of course, she knew that wasnโ€™t realistic.

But in her heart, she was determined to take full responsibility for Aurora.

Anything she could do, she wouldnโ€™t leave undone.

And any chance to stay by Auroraโ€™s side, sheโ€™d take.

With a beaming smile, Megan proudly laid out all the breakfast sheโ€™d brought.

โ€œAurora, letโ€™s not talk about all this sad stuff anymore. Letโ€™s eat, okay?โ€

She busied herself cheerfully, as if the earlier tension had completely vanished.
