โAnd besides, our boss has other matters to handle. He really canโt afford to waste any more time here.โ
Hearing that, Hector smacked his forehead, finally remembering what they were actually here for.
He quickly bent forward in apology. โIโm so sorry, thatโs on me. Iโll take you there right away. My apologies again.โ
As he spoke, he raised a hand and gestured ahead.
โIf you look straight ahead, just follow this hallway. Itโs not farโJulian Hayes is being held just down this way.โ
Desmond glanced at Hector, puzzled. โYouโre not coming with us?โ
Thinking of Julianโs current state made Hector feel a little uneasy.
He looked at Lucasโ sharp, indifferent profile, wrestled with himself for a moment, then gave in. โAlright, Iโll come with you.โ
Originally, he hadnโt wanted to see Julian like this.
If it werenโt for Lucasโ request, he probably wouldnโt have stepped foot there at all.
In just two days, Julian had become completely unrecognizable.
Hector led Lucas and Desmond to the holding area where Julian was detained.
Though his mental state was clearly unstable now, that didnโt mean he was free of all responsibility.
Before this, Julian had been completely sane.
So even if heโd lost it now, he still had to pay for what he did before.
At that thought, Lucasโ gaze turned cold.
There was no way heโd allow anyone who hurt Aurora to walk away unpunished.
Not a chanceโnot even a sliver of possibility.
That was why Lucas had decided to come in person.
He needed to see it for himself.
If Julian had truly gone mad, then he could rot in prison for the rest of his life.
But if he was faking itโฆ if he had the nerve to pretend, Lucas wouldnโt be holding back.
A glint of coldness flashed in his eyes.
He was growing more curious to see what kind of state Julian was actually in.
When the group arrived at the holding cell, it was pitch dark inside.
Even as they approached, there wasnโt a single sound from within!
Before Lucas could say anything, Desmond spoke up first. โOfficer Hector, are you sure Julian Hayes is actually in there?โ
He hesitated.
If it really were Julian, then with the noise theyโd made walking over, there shouldโve been some sort of reaction.
But even now, with them standing right in front of the cell, there was still complete silence.
The more he thought about it, the stranger it seemed.
And if Desmond found it strange, Lucas certainly had too.
He wasnโt stupidโhe could sense something was off.
They were already at the door, and yet he couldnโt see Julian at all.
For all he knew, Julianโs attention might not even be on them, which meant even making noise might be completely useless.
Hearing their questions, Hector hesitated, unsure of what to say.
โThereโs definitely someone inside. Just wait a moment.โ
At that, Lucas glanced at Desmond.
Both of them were equally puzzled by whatever was going on at this precinct.
Lucas narrowed his eyes slightly, deciding it was best to wait and observe.
In the business world, heโd learned that sometimes the smartest move was to stay still until the other side made theirs.
Hector stepped forward and unlocked the cell door.
