Chapter 819
โNoโฆ no, it canโt beโฆ it just canโtโฆโ
Grace paced back and forth, muttering the same words under her breath. It was obvious her mind was starting to drift. She gripped her hands tightly, trying to find a shred of security, but even after pacing several times, she still couldnโt find the answer she was looking for.
Arnold was growing anxious as well. He couldnโt help saying, โWhy donโt we try calling your son-in-law?โ
Grace stopped in her tracks and quickly grabbed her phone, her tone flustered.
โYes! How could I forget that? Letโs call him now! I want to see what exactly theyโve done to my daughter!โ Her heart was full of worry for Aurora. She only had one daughter, and yet she was still lying unconscious in bed. She didnโt even know the most basic updates about her. How was she supposed to sleep at night like this?
Arnold gave her an encouraging look. โAlright then, maโam, go ahead and call.โ
Grace nodded and quickly found Lucasโs number. But to her dismay, once the call went through, the line indicated that his phone was off. In an instant, it felt like the sky had fallen. How could this be happening? The phone slowly slipped from her hand, and her expression completely changed.
Arnoldโs heart dropped. โMaโam, whatโs wrongโฆโ
Grace looked utterly defeated, at a total loss. โArnoldโฆ Lucasโs phone is offโฆ how could it be turned off now, of all timesโฆโ
Even Arnold was stunned hearing that. Everything that was happening felt far too coincidental, as if it had all been orchestrated. But the truth was โ they didnโt know a thing. Just thinking about it made Arnold start to feel afraid.
โThenโฆ maโam, what should we do nowโฆโ His usually steady voice now carried a noticeable tremble. He was truly at a loss. Everyone they could possibly reach had already been contacted. And the first call had been to Tessa โ now, she couldnโt be reached either.
Grace couldnโt stay calm anymore. She turned around abruptly and walked straight back to her room without a second thought.
Watching her move like that, Arnold was confused. What was happening? What was Grace trying to do? She had just looked utterly defeated โ how had she suddenly come back to life like this? Arnold really didnโt understand.
Still, he followed her without saying a word. A good housekeeper needed to always stay in tune with the masterโs intentions. Only then could he offer solutions and advice at the right moment. Arnold used to think that no matter what happened, he would always be able to stay composed, but when he saw Grace start packing her things, he began to panic.
His voice rose, โMaโam, what are you doing?!โ
Grace said nothing. She just kept stuffing daily necessities and clothes into the suitcase. She didnโt speak, but her hands never stopped moving.
Arnold tried to stop her. โMaโam, in your current condition, you canโt travel that far! Please think carefully!โ
