Just a single syllable was all Megan needed to recognize exactly who was inside. In the end, it was Lucas' confirming gaze that told her that Aurora was awake.
The moment the realization hit, Megan was overwhelmed with joy. After the initial excitement, she immediately tried to rush past Lucas toward the room. God knew how long it had been since she last saw Aurora, alive and well. It was such a rare and precious moment. But Lucas reached out and grabbed the bags she was holding, effectively blocking her at the doorway.
"Hold on a second."
Hearing Lucas' voice, Megan was already getting impatient. Why did he have to stop her at the most crucial moment? She had waited so long to see Aurora, and now that she was finally right there, her cousin had the nerve to get in the way. Just thinking about it made Meganโs expression turn sour. Sheโd always thought her cousin had good emotional intelligenceโbut now, she was ready to take that back.
Even Leonard felt Lucas was acting strange. To block them like this at the doorโwhat was that supposed to mean? He hadnโt seen Aurora in ages either, and now that he knew she was awake, he couldnโt have been happier. But seeing how Lucas behaved now made him feel nothing but frustrated. What, just because heโd already seen her, no one else was allowed to? Wasnโt that a bit much?
Leonard was just about to speak when he met Lucas' sharp gaze and instantly swallowed his words. That fight they had last time was still painfully vivid in his memory. After suffering so many setbacks, Leonard wasnโt stupid. It was obvious that Lucas was like a rabid dog. If it had anything to do with Aurora, there was simply no room for negotiation. That much Leonard understood perfectly. So, given that they were still in a hospital and he didnโt want to cause any unnecessary trouble, he decided to let it go. No need to be the one who stuck his neck out.
Leonard lowered his gaze and looked at Megan, who stood protectively in front of him, and felt a warmth rise in his chest. Heโd always been used to handling everything alone, but seeing Megan shielding him like this really caught him off guard. He had always carried his burdens by himself, and this was the first time someone had stood in front of him to protect him. So, did Megan truly see him as a friend? Of course, all of this stayed in Leonardโs head.
If Megan ever found out, sheโd definitely roast him for it. What did he mean by "truly see him as a friend"? After knowing each other for so long, did he really think sheโd just been fake playing all this time? Was that a joke? Theyโd known each other for so longโwhat was with all this nonsense now? Just thinking about it made Megan want to roll her eyes. But right now, the real issue was her cousin standing in the way. What was going on with him? Her best friend had been in a coma for so long, and now that she was finally awake and waiting inside, here he was blocking the door?
Seeing Meganโs anxious expression, Lucas raised an eyebrow, fully understanding her urgency. โDonโt be in such a rush. I just wanted to say that since Auroraโs awake now, maybe letโs not bring up any of the unpleasant stuff anymore, alright?โ
