“It’s alright. It’s not your fault. With so many horrible people out there, who could have predicted this?”

Even Aurora, the one directly involved, hadn’t expected such deceit. They were practically family; after all, Julian had been engaged to Tessa. And yet, he’d tried to hurt her? Aurora found it laughable. They came from the same place, yet he wanted to harm her. That line fit Julian perfectly. He was truly someone who didn’t know gratitude. Even after all this time, he still wanted to harm her.

Aurora’s words were meant to comfort him, but Lucas’s heart was still heavy. He blamed himself for not protecting her better, for letting her suffer so much. From now on, he would never let it happen again.

Lucas took a deep breath and looked at Aurora with solemn determination. “Don’t worry. From now on, I won’t leave your side, not even for a moment. And this will absolutely be the last time.”

Seeing his seriousness, Aurora felt warmth bloom in her chest. At first, she’d thought such things were just for show; whether someone said them or not didn’t really matter. But now, she realized these things reflected how a man truly felt. They were worth paying attention to because a man's attitude said a lot about how much he valued her, how much he cared, and how much space she held in his heart. These things, in the end, matter more than most people think.

“Alright, I get it now.”

Aurora patted Lucas gently on the back. “Don’t be so upset. Look, I’m fine now, aren’t I? I’ll stay by your side too. I’m not going anywhere.”

Lucas nodded. “You said it. You’re not allowed to break that promise.”

Aurora smiled and replied, “I promise I won’t lie to you. What would I even gain from lying to you?”

Hearing that, Lucas finally relaxed. She was right—there was nothing to be gained from deceiving him.

And he wasn’t the same Lucas he had been before. From now on, he truly would never leave Aurora’s side. As for everything else, it could wait. None of that mattered anymore.

“You must be hungry. I’ll have them bring the food in now.”

Lucas let go of her, a small smile playing on his lips. “Yes, please. I’m starving.”

Aurora playfully rubbed her stomach, looking a little bashful. After going so long without solid food and relying only on nutrition, her body was more than ready for something real. If it weren’t for Lucas insisting she stay put, Aurora would have run out herself to grab something to eat. But thinking it through, that was hardly realistic. Lucas really did care about her deeply, and some things had to change gradually. That was the only way he could feel more at ease. After waking up, Aurora came to understand his concerns and didn’t push back. Everyone had their moments—there was no point judging one another.

When she saw the food trolley being pushed in, Aurora found herself unable to even recognize half of what was on it.

“All of this is for me?”

She looked at the neatly arranged three-tiered spread and felt a wave of warmth in her heart.
