Something was definitely wrong now. Grace grew increasingly uneasy. After all, Lucas had still been answering calls before, but now it had been so long and he simply wouldn’t pick up. As the repeated dial tones echoed in her ears, the light in her eyes dimmed with each passing second.

What on earth was going on? That man better not have done anything to her daughter. If he had, she would fight him to the end, even if it cost her life. Her daughter was not someone any man could bully.

With that thought, her tone hardened. This time, she was determined that she would never allow another man to hurt Aurora. No matter what the situation was, she would take her daughter back. With this in mind, Grace called Tessa.

Tessa already had a hunch when she saw the call come in. She was pleased, yet somewhat conflicted. Grace said, “He’s not answering. Looks like you’ll have to go check on her. Tessa, I’m sorry to trouble you… after all, she is my daughter,” For some reason, Grace even felt a little embarrassed saying this, especially when facing Tessa. Grace genuinely felt as if she had been rejected by her own son-in-law. This matter would surely affect her future dealings in the stock market. But Aurora had never experienced any of this, nor did she even know what it was supposed to feel like. If she had grown up with that kind of care, then that would’ve been real affection.

Tessa smiled, “Mom, what are you talking about? Of course, I know she’s your daughter. And she’s my sister too, you know, so of course I care about her.”

That line once again cleared Tessa of any responsibility, clean and perfect. Even if something went wrong later, it would have nothing to do with her because problems were bound to happen later. Grace also said there shouldn’t be any issues, but her emotions were clearly off. And with Lucas not answering his phone, she genuinely felt like she was losing face.

“Alright, Mom, I’ll let you know once I get there. I’ll put it on speaker, then you can talk to Lucas yourself.”

Grace nodded. “Don’t worry, I know what to say.” After all, she’d been running a company for so many years.

Deep down, she knew exactly what she wanted. It was simple. But what were those two doing?

Tessa had no idea what Lucas was up to. They didn’t know that Lucas was now unsure if Aurora could even be saved. He was starting to regret coming abroad. The medical technology back home was already advanced, but it was because of those people stirring things up… Otherwise, he never would’ve come here. Now, with no progress at all, how could Lucas not be angry? All he wanted now was to spend more time with Aurora. What if one day she suddenly woke up, and he wasn’t there to see it? He couldn’t let that happen. He didn’t want to entrust something so important to anyone else.

At that moment, Lucas was lying by Aurora’s bedside, holding her hand, nestled close to her. His lashes lowered over his sharp eyes, and with his bangs falling forward, they veiled the sharpness in his gaze as he slept.
