Chapter 433
"I heard everything, you know,โ Lucas said with a grin.
โYou said being with me makes you feel content.โ
Aurora rolled her eyes. โSo, you heard that, huh?โ
Lucas smiled and slipped an arm around her. โNot only did I hear it, but you can be sure Iโll live up to it. Weโre not just spending a day or two togetherโweโre spending a lifetime. So, if I mess up along the way, I hope you will be generous enough to forgive me."
Aurora let out a soft laugh. โGot it, Mr. Carter.โ
The two of them looked like a couple freshly in loveโwarmth and sweetness surrounded them, creating a bubble no one else could step into.
As they stepped inside, a savory aroma hit them.
Aurora turned to Lucas, her expression puzzled, silently asking what was going on.
Lucas shook his head, just as confused. โDonโt look at me. I didnโt ask anyone to cook.โ
They walked into the kitchen and found dishes neatly arranged on the table, along with a folded note.
Aurora picked it up and read it. The handwriting was neat and gracefulโclear effort had been put into it.
โLucas, Aurora, I made this meal based on when I thought youโd get home. I hope you wonโt mind. Itโs just a little gesture from me. I donโt have much to offer in return for everything youโve done, so consider this my apologyโa small token of goodwill. You can rest assured that I wonโt be disturbing you again.โ
At the end, Wendy had even drawn a cute little face, clearly trying her best to soften the message.
Aurora handed the note to Lucas, raising a brow, โDid you talk to her again?โ
โNo,โ he said honestly. โI havenโt said a word.โ
Lucas was just as puzzled. Why would Wendy suddenly go to all this trouble? What did she hope to gain by doing this? Could it be that she was genuinely remorseful? Lucas was skeptical, but a part of him wanted to believe it might be true.
Aurora raised an eyebrow and said casually, โYou donโt think she did something to the food, do you?โ
Lucas jolted at the thought, immediately moving to toss the dishes out. โThen letโs not eat it. Iโll take you out instead.โ
โHey, no need, I was joking,โ Aurora said, laughing as she watched his reaction.
โShe wouldnโt be that dumb, tampering with the food and then leaving a note on top of it. That would just point straight back to her, wouldnโt it?โ
โThis Wendyโฆ sheโs not that stupid. I donโt believe she'd go that far.โ
Lucas reconsidered and realized she had a point. If something really were wrong with the food, theyโd know right away. They could even report it: And the note? Itโd be the first piece of evidence.
โAlright, letโs eat then. Iโm actually pretty hungry,โ he said, sitting down. โBut keep that note. It might come in handy.โ
Aurora chuckled and nodded. โGot it.โ She tucked the note into her pocket and sat down to eat.
โOkay, enough of the what-ifs. You said you were hungry, right? This saves us the trouble of cooking, and we can get some rest early. Letโs eat.โ
