Chapter 383
Aurora hadnโt even said a word before the line went dead.
That confirmed itโTessa had done it on purpose. She had no intention of letting her see Grace.
Aurora knew exactly what Tessa was trying to pull behind the scenes. Grace had ended up in the hospital, and there was no way she could just sit around at the company and pretend nothing happened. That was impossible.
And most importantly, she still didnโt know if Graceโs condition had anything to do with her. How could she possibly stand by and ignore it?
It wasnโt about appearances or what others thoughtโif she really was responsible, even in part, she wouldnโt be able to forgive herself.
Grace had always treated her well. How could she let a petty argument keep her from visiting? That wasnโt who she was.
Just thinking about it made Auroraโs heart ache. If only she hadnโt argued with her mother that dayโฆ maybe none of this would have happened.
Her eyes dropped as her fingers tightened at her sides. She needed to find Grace, immediately. Otherwise, nothing else mattered.
Right now, the only thing that counted was her motherโs health.
Aurora pressed her lips together, silently praying Grace would be alright. Only then could she ease even a fraction of the guilt gnawing at her.
Her eyes reddened slightly. She made up her mind to head to the office and find Jasonโshe needed answers.
Sitting around doing nothing just wasnโt her style, and she wasnโt about to watch things spiral out of control.
As she approached the building, Leonard happened to arrive and saw her just as she was about to step inside.
He called out, โAurora!โ
Aurora stopped in her tracks at the sound of his voice.
She turned toward it and saw Leonard, his light hair catching the sun, smiling as he jogged over with a warmth that felt like spring.
โWhat are you doing here?โ she asked, unable to hide her surprise.
Leonard paused for a second, then quickly caught on. โI just called you, remember? I was worried about you,โ he said with a smile.
Aurora recalled the earlier call. She hadnโt expected him to follow up in person.
He really was thoughtful.
She waved it off. โItโs nothing. Iโve stepped out of it now.โ
โHowโs the Chairwoman doing?โ Leonard asked, concern showing clearly in his eyes.
Aurora gave a slight shrug. โI was just about to go in and find out. I wasnโt at the office earlier today, so I donโt really know the details yet.โ
Leonard didnโt miss the trace of guilt and regret in her eyes.
โAlright then, Iโll go in with you.โ
Aurora frowned. โDonโt you have things to do today?โ
He shook his head. โNope. I was just spending time with my sister at home. Then I gave you that call.โ
โAnd I do have some business connections with the Chairwoman. Itโs not inappropriate for me to check in, is it? Orโฆ am I not welcome?โ
With that harmless, almost innocent face, Leonard looked at her without a hint of malice.
Aurora hesitated for a moment, but seeing his expression, she found herself wavering.
To be fair, he wasnโt wrong.
