Chapter 360
At first, Lucas wore his usual calm, indifferent expression. But as soon as he saw the content on Auroraโs screen, his entire demeanor shifted.
Wait a minute, hadnโt he already told Desmond to suppress this topic? Why was it still trending? And worse, why were people now speculating even more wildly than before?
His gaze darkened, and his jaw tightened. What the hell was Desmond doing?
The man was clearly slacking off. Maybe it was time to start docking his pay a little more often. He was getting too comfortable.
Aurora frowned, noticing the unease on Lucasโ face. โWhatโs going on? I already posted everythingโso why are people still questioning your identity?โ
Lucas feigned surprise, pretending he had just noticed. โPeople online love to make things up. Maybe theyโre just bored.โ
But Aurora kept scrolling through the comments, her brows furrowing deeper with each one until she abruptly stopped. Her red lips parted slightly, and her voice slipped out in a whisper.
โDoesnโt anyone else think he looks kind of familiar?โ
She began reading the comments aloud.
โI agree, itโs not just the faceโitโs the whole aura. He feels familiar.โ
โForget his looks. Iโd bet money this guyโs background isnโt ordinary.โ
โWhat are yโall even guessing for? Aurora was born into wealth. You really think sheโd end up with some random man?โ
That last comment got a flood of agreement. Everyone seemed to be circling the same suspicion.
Aurora narrowed her eyes and turned to Lucas, studying him closely.
โWhy is everyone questioning your background?โ Then, without missing a beat, she added, โDonโt tell meโฆ you really are hiding something from me?โ
Lucasโ eyes widened slightly, especially when he met those clear, earnest eyesโit hit him with a strange sense of guilt.
He didnโt know what to say. But he did know one thingโif he didnโt explain something now, she wouldnโt let it go. If they let this drag on, it would only lead to more misunderstandings and friction between them.
Instead of letting those doubts fester, Lucas figured it was best to shut them down before they took root. With that thought, he reached over and swiftly took Auroraโs phone from her hands.
โAlright, itโs late. Stop looking at all this nonsense.โ He spoke casually, as if it were nothing serious. โYou know how the internet isโhalf of itโs just noise. You canโt tell whatโs real and whatโs not.โ
โYouโre right.โ
Aurora glanced at him, seeing how composed he was, and ended up believing him.
After all, most things online were exaggerated or flat-out fake. It was better to focus on the person right in front of her than get caught up in speculation.
Lucas felt a twinge of guilt watching her so readily trust him. But now wasnโt the time for explanationsโanything he said would only complicate matters further. Why invite trouble?
โSo, how about we get some rest?โ
He reached over and moved her phone even farther away, placing it well out of reach.
Aurora didnโt object. He was rightโthere was no point continuing to scroll at this hour. The situation wouldnโt change tonight anyway. She figured it was better to wait and see how things developed tomorrow. There was no use wasting energy tonight over something she couldnโt control.
